I just don't think its an ARK, I think it's an after-war mission.

 

Like I said, we shall see.

After-war mission means either a) picking canon or b ) creating variables for synthetic people, dead Krogan etc. Both way less likely than the Ark leaving Milky Way before Crucible fires

Interesting is the name in the dog tag. Ryder.  Sally Rider was the first American woman in space and Bio did mention that the theme song "Riders in the sky" from the teaser video would make sense, down the road.

Funnily enough, I already had the thoughts you're having when the trailer for Interstellar was released. It ain't original.

So yes, Interstellar's the first thing that came to mind, especially with the somber tone and narration on top of the archive footage.

Ghost Riders in the Sky could mean a million things, including a cute play on words referencing Heinlein's Orphans of the Sky, one of the earliest pieces of fiction about this kind of ship.

Oh but come on now. Have you seen the amount of fans going "Is Shepard gon be in Andromeda!? What about Milky Way!?!?" -- this trailer is made for those people to clarify; Andromeda is about Andromeda. You want Shepard? Here's Shepard telling you why this game is not about Shepard and showing you why this is not about Milky Way.

 

It's not all slap-in-the-face-like though. It's more like saying "We know you love Shepard, so here's Shepard saying proper goodbye because we know you love Shepard so much"

I still how we will be the ryders in the sky/wild hunt we runing from our home, Showing in the sky and raiding planet because we need to survive. Please don't be some bullshit we are good guys bringing democracy to primitives(insert javik). Or we can change our ways and try to be nice. Like we need something and alians say no will we just go look elsewhere or steel or other way.

I think the idea that it's based on that Ryder gal who was the first female in space or whatever is the best bet, because while you could be both male and female in the trilogy the name Shepard was based on an american male to be one of the first in space, and this time, to be just about it, it's one of the first females. It doesn't matter as we can still pick gender though.

Somehow, it still gets me excited. I love the theme, but I'm concerned whether BIoware has any audacity about it or if they're just trying to be Interstellar The Game (...And High-Spectacle Gunplay + Romance-Simulator). I mean, you gotta ask, is this really some video-game writer's own ideas or is he too in awe of his favorite movie?

 

You could say Mass Effect was largely ripping off established ideas all throughout though... still, I feel Mass Effect 1 was just trying to be itself. ME2 or ME3 had more obvious style-similarities or maybe it was because it was jarring how they were inspired by non-sci-fi movies which clashed with ME1's sci-fi style or I dunno.

 

All things considered, this is just a trailer, and probably not gonna indicate the style of narrative the actual game has. That said, it's hard to be super-impressed by it IMO.

 

I will happily rip into Mass Effect as much as anyone, as you well know.  But I'm not sure trying to be the next Interstellar is necesarilly a concern.  

 

Given the last Johnny Cash-fueled, Starcraft-wannabe teaser, then this, very different teaser, "exploration is srs bsnss" I think they're still trying to figure out how to properly market the game.  What will generate the most hype.  What do people want to see?  Guns?  Space ships?  Aliens?

To be fair, I guess it's mostly just the trailer I'm criticising for its likeness to Interstellar, because I can't fairly judge the game not having played or even seen any of it

 

Then, of course... this seems like a bit of an N7-day mockup trailer or something like that. I don't think they spent a lot of money or anything on this one. Always good to get a little bit more though, and I still hope we'll see some actual gameplay or story-trailer at PSX or the VGAs even if I'm not counting on it

 

I feel like the "see you at the end of the year" was more referring to VGAs than today, though.
