So, if the ship leaves the Milky Way before ME3's ending, that effectively decouples ME:A from any and all connections to the trilogy, including which ending may have happened. Most interesting.

Depending on when the ship leaves, it could decouple ME:A from a lot more than just the trilogy's ending.

Just think about what the culture aboard the ship might be like had it left between ME1 and ME2.

And how does element zero factor into intergalactic travel, given Ships of the ME3 universe (which use eezo cores) have a range of only a coupe dozen light-years?

So you're saying relays, which create almost mass-free corridors that allow for intergalactic travel, don't depend on element zero for their effect?  Hey, remind me again, what's the notable property of element zero?  Also, what do you reckon the glowing blue bits are in those relays?

Yes, most interesting how they swept that under the rug so cleanly.

It's not that clean. Casey Hudson explicitly said there'd be no more games after that timeline.

But since he's gone, they have to rake in the cash in the way he said they wouldn't. It's a bit shallow.

Well, if there's any Silver lining to be had from all this it's that Casey Hudson didn't completely get his way at the very end.

Well that **** was emotional.

"This is Commander Shepard, signing off". Yeah I'm thinking the ARK theory is going to be real. Kudos, BioWare.

Eh, I think it's a fitting message on the last N7 Day before Andromeda and its new cast (theoretically) take over.

But how many goodbyes do we need? We had the Citadel DLC, not to mention community goodbyes from the devs, etc. I get what you're saying, I just wish it'd stop already. The more you emphasize saying goodbyes, the more likely you are to inadvertently keep Shepard in the player's mind. It's like saying, "This character is so important that he/she merits several goodbyes." If I were them, I'd focus on propping up the new protagonist rather than continuing to highlight how amazing Shepard is.

Very cool teaser! Hope we will get a send off by Shepard or Hackett or the Asari Councilor or... when we start our contingency plan in the actual game.

Trailer got me pretty excited but I'm still not liking this idea of totally moving away from the old trilogy.

There are things from ME1-3 that I just feel Andromeda would not be complete without. The Citadel would be one, but we're not getting that and I'm starting to come to terms with that. The Mass Relays are kind of a staple of the series at this point, I'm kinda sad we're not gonna have any more space-slingshots to shoot us across space :(

That ship does look pretty cool though.

A reminder: the first reply in Casey Hudson Fan Ideas thread:

Go nuts. Mass Effect was about the Milky Way Galaxy. The races in there, the reapers, its conflicts, stories, exploring it. Go to another galaxy. Maybe Andromeda? The presence of eezo there and the mass effect technology would be the tie-in.

Considering that then new games (we don't even know if Andromeda will be the last game/trilogy/whatever) i doubt we won't proceed further in the timeline.

Anyway, nice teaser. It seems to me a nice way to connect the first trilogy with Andromeda, and to say goodbye to Shep. :)

Thoughts on when exactly it leaves?

None. Just sometime before ME3 ends.

I would expect the justification to be the continued survival of the human race.

I actually posted an idea a while back about a relay linking the galaxies.  Alas, it appears not to be.

At any rate, have you ever seen a relay send itself through such a corridor?

And in addition, that trailer sure doesn't make that ship look like it's traveling instantaneously  from one point to another.  It's, you know, under propulsion.

If that was a recording of Shepard and not a transmission, it could be any time.

So, is Shepard's survival in high EMS destroy now canon? Or was this ship launched with a nice little speech from Shepard prior to the Crucible choice?

It will almost certainly launch before the finale of Mass Effect 3 so that the devs won't have to address the aftermath of the endings.

Maybe the "Ark" ship on the inside will somewhat resemble the Citadel :P

Why her of all people? One who's done practically nothing to help with the the war effort and by the time she did it was too little too late.

Basically the voice over is Commander Shepard sending a speech to the crew of the Ark who are about to embark on their journey to Andromeda. To me this pretty much confirms that the Ark leaves the Milky Way during the events of the Original Trilogy, my guess is probably at least sometime between ME2 and ME3. It also confirms that the majority of the people on the Ark are Human. Where the other council races tie into this I'm not sure.

...no it doesn't.

That's what I hate the most now. Humanity is just reduced to an ideal. Summed up with a Johnny Cash song, I guess.

I like preserving more substantial things. It's why I even played in the first place.

They have plenty of time to do that over the course of the following year.

I think it'll be during ME3 to be honest. It doesn't seem to me it could happen during ME2, and after that it was short time before Shepard got arrested.

Because she brings up a contingency plan in ME3 and to me it's more plausible to be a council operation - especially if we wanna take multiple races with us - than an alliance one.
