The mother has her arm around the child. You can see that child's back(in red shirt).

I think it's a parent and two kids too.  After thought it might have been a chair. But then I thought... You're leaving Earth, why would you bring a picture of a chair?

I'm not that keen on another military dude though. I'm just going to go ahead and hope it's an ex-military who's kept their dog tag.

 

I agree that photo looks like mother with two kids. I'm guessing one girl one boy because of the colors, no way to tell age.

I tried to lighten up the pic a bit more and I still keep seeing the arch of the shoulder in front of the spot in red circle. Could the kids face be the light spot right above the red shirt? Then it would look like the kid is sitting on the mother's leg. There's also a clear gap between the dark spot in the green circle and the shoulder.

That dark spot is the back of the child's head. The mother's arm is going around the child's shoulder.

Nah, It's his/her sibling, which dies in the end of the first act, and you have to step in his/her shoes.

It could be Ryder/protagonist is one of the two children. Maybe the smaller child is a girl and the larger the boy. That could be the male/female protagonist we create, if the Ryder tag is the protagonist's and the picture is their family.

The guy in the trailer is Conrad Verner, spreading the message of the Shepard. He's got some odd device that allowed his religion to spread to Andromeda. So we're tasked with hunting him down... with Shepard's blessing.

Good catch to whoever first noticed it. I like the name, I hope it is the protagonists, and I think it quite likely it is.
