So, the new Mass Effect Andromeda teaser trailer released today. From what I can gather, it could mean that Shepard knew about the Andromeda crew and mission.

BUT......WHEN did this all happen? During the Reaper invasion or after?

Thoughts?

EDIT: COULD THIS ALSO BE A METAPHORICAL SEND OFF OR STILL LITERAL?

Retcon? Because obviously Shepard doesn't look like he has a clue about all this. But now he's sending them off in some emotional goodbye. So, during.

would be extremly stupid

mass effect 3 is about getting help military to fight back the reapers

so by having a entire ark full of military to be send off to another galaxy i mean how stupid is that ?

ok guys we need all the help we can get

but lets send this ( high tech ark away from out of no where !!) with alot of our stuff and military !

Would've preferred just being ignorant of it. Someone else's operation.

Now Shepard doesn't look stupid... but I do instead. Not to mention the writers themselves.

Hopefully that is just trailer magic. My Shepard would not react that way about this mission if it occurs during the Reaper War.

Probably is meant to be more meta, with Shepard saying goodbye to the player and saying you are these people now.

Do we have any proof that every single person of that ship is military?

to have a large ark like that send away

will require alot of military forces you need someone to protect it

and when did i say every single person is military ?

Honestly a contingency plan of getting out of the galaxy, the one the Reapers have been using as their personal rat maze for millions of years, isn't actually that bad an idea. So if it is during or before the Reaper invasion, I'm sure they would have no shortage of volunteers and civilians to send.

After all you could simply have a relatively small contingent of military sent out with this "ark" and then train soldiers from the population. Something they didn't really have time to do once the Reapers already showed up.

[edit] There's also no indication this ark was made just because the Reapers showed up. This may have been a long standing project to reach another galaxy that was re-purposed once the Reaper threat became known. The mission just became all the more critical.

Hopefully you're right. There's just no goddamn way they could finance an intergalactic ship of that size during the most destructive interstellar war the modern galactic civilization has ever seen. The story should fit the setting, not the other way around.

My theory is that construction of the Ark started after the events of ME1, progressed thru ME2, and became a top priority due to Sheperds actions in the Bahak system during Arrival, when Sheperd managed to stall the Reaper invasion, & the Ark was completed & launched at the start of ME3 whilst Sheperd was in lock down.

As for what prompted them to start on the Ark so early, well if you remember rightly an awful lot of Soverign was unaccounted for & that was blamed on scavengers, I think the council races ( Turians/Asari/Salarians ) spirited away the wreckage, studied it, found proof in Soverigns data core that confirmed what Sheperd had told them about an impending Reaper invasion was true, realising they couldn't beat such a numerous & formidable foe they came up with the Ark plan.

Whether or not Shepard knew about the project, I'd wager the dialogue in the trailer was entirely for marketing and won't be in the game. I doubt they've even recorded any of the in-game dialogue yet.

The Ark departs during the events of the Original Trilogy.

The events of Mass Effect: Andromeda take place after the Original Trilogy.

wont make any sense since This is a N7 project

and they only took shepard serious when the reapers started attacking in mass effect 3 at the begining doing the trials

so having this secret ark project been developed on since after mass effect 1 ? i dont buy it one bit.

That thing's freaking MASSIVE.  No way it could be done in three years.  And Shepard wasn't even believed until some point after ME2

Come to think of it. It's kind of pathetic that some random Batarian toilet scrubber probably got a seat on this ship.

And yet all of these badasses from ME3 are left in the dust... with no real delivery on their story. All the main characters, all the soldiers who died, all the N7 ops, the commandos, the warlords, the engineers, the pilots... just about everything.

If I was Shep, I'd kill some of their sorry asses and get on that ship with people I selected. But whatever. I'm now happily waving goodbye or something.

Construction could have been started anytime after the First Contact War. The Reapers ought to be the worst kept secret in the galaxy.

Either way, it still wouldn't come anywhere close the silliest Deus Ex Machinas in the series.

Uhm, if it's Ark why Shepard mutters about curiousity and stuff? If it's exploration expedition what's this "good bye" supposed to mean?

actually they only really started to believe him when the reapers was attacking in mass effect 3 xD

It's probably purely for the trailer. We aren't going to see Shepard. Shepard isn't going to play any part in Andromeda. That's been made clear. This trailer is probably just a send off for Shepard. Like "in case you didn't know, Shepard's story is done".
