Shepard: We didn't get the information...
Asari Councilor: Why not?
Shepard: Cerberus was there... we were defeated. We don't know how to finish the crucible.
Asari Councilor: I... don't know what to say... What was the situation on Thessia?
Shepard: Deteriorating fast. The Reapers are there in strength.
Asari Councilor: Then I should be going. Plans... must be put in motion. Continuity of civilization has to be considered. I never imagined this day would come.
Shepard: None of us did. I'm... sorry.

Why wouldn't Shepard know?

Why was female Shepard's voice used instead of male Shepard?

Of course they'd go with the superior voice actor;)

Why didn't they also then go with the superior purple barney dinosaur as opposed to an n7 mark?

Why was female Shepard's voice used instead of male Shepard?

My guess is because (I believe) she was already doing some work for the SWTOR expansion so it made sense to use her.

Also I can't help thinking of Joker's line about how he hoped the council had a plan but didn't tell Shepard because of Cerberus.IMHO, then it would make sense if the ark was sent during ME2 that Shepard didn't know about it- because Cerberus.  My feeling is that this is a metaphorical, rather than literal send off.

My guess:  The latest expansion for SWTOR came out recently.  Jennifer Hale voices the female Trooper character as well as Satele Shan.  maybe she was doing the voicework for those parts and they said "While you're here, could you read this too...?"

Seems legit. Not that it mattered to me and not trying to create any sexist debate but it did seem odd considering that Bioware has official metrics that shows that male Shepard was the most played and that players would logically identify more with male Shepard because of that in addition to male Shepard being the default/main marketing guy throughout the entire trilogy.

I'd rather like it to be a contingency plan for the Reapers. As far the those on ARK know they might well be the last lone survivors of their races -- they obviously wouldn't know the outcome back in the MW. Makes their struggle for survival feel like it would be all the more tense because failure is really and truly the end.

And unless there's a save import, for all we know Shepard Refused or CMFed and the ark really is the last hope.

IMO, it's just a goodbye from Shepard to players saying that there is much more of the galaxy to explore

That thing's freaking MASSIVE.  No way it could be done in three years.  And Shepard wasn't even believed until some point after ME2

It could, actually. Remember the Crucible? And then, Hackett himself in ME2 said that some people in and outside the Alliance believed, Shepard about the Reaper Threat.

And the Alliance, turians, and other allies broke their piggy bank and sank everything they had into a one-shot device they had blueprints for.

Here we are talking a ship big enough to hold thousands, if not tens of thousands of colonists from several different species.  Also carrying supplies for keeping said colonists alive for an indeterminate amount of time and establish one of more colonies for them once a suitable planet is found  Designed to be used constantly for centuries (not one use in one battle), using tech that this cycle simply doesn't have.

Seriously, one secret project using miracle technology being worked on in the eleventh hour was a huge stretch.  But two?

Nah, I don't think they cared on who's "the majority". They also played female Shepard on that twitch video for the N7day.

They just chose her this time.

And again - majority of xbox live users polled at the time.
As I have stated before, based on the da:i stats xbox users disproportionately choose male avatars compared to other platforms.
It's getting towards parity on pc for male/female inquisitors. This could of course be down to the increased presence in the marketing of a female inquisitior.. almost like marketing has an effect.

Well my survey of one PC player (me) says PC players replay a lot.

Maybe. But I think male inquisitor sounded like a wuss. I've never been more tempted to play the female character in a RPG.

Also the PC market might be more balanced, single household device shared by all household members where consoles could have a larger presence in single male households.
