Doubt Shepard knew. This could have taken place before the events of ME1.  The video seemed like it was Shepard telling the fans "goodbye, and enjoy your trip."

I think people taking this as a literal message Shep delivered to the ARK people are stretching.

Nothing about that Trailer leads be to believe Shepard "knew." Trailers are not canon. They are MARKETING. I saw a commercial for star wars merchandise does that make it cannon simply because it was star wars? No.

Whether or not Shepard knew about the project, I'd wager the dialogue in the trailer was entirely for marketing and won't be in the game. I doubt they've even recorded any of the in-game dialogue yet.

This.

My opinion about this trailer is that Jen Hale's narration was simply a farewell to the Shep story line. This trailer was putting an emphasis on exploration and a final farewell from FemShep. So simply put, Shep is over, time to move on...

would be extremly stupid

mass effect 3 is about getting help military to fight back the reapers

so by having a entire ark full of military to be send off to another galaxy i mean how stupid is that ?

ok guys we need all the help we can get

but lets send this ( high tech ark away from out of no where !!) with alot of our stuff and military !

We are facing almost certain death here. Sending off trained but untested soldiers with some frozen sex cells to repopulate the species in case of the worst isn't unbelievable to me.

I feel like Shepard gives them the goodbye speech and they wake years later from Cyro, or descendants of original passengers even.
Maybe the concept art is esscentially a list of scanned planets they we can explore once we wake up. (Waking up next year!)

I slept one night, cleared my head of the Shep-hysteria (I still like to float in it though) and now I understand what everyone knew and saw: it was just a goodbye. But damn it felt good.

Well, I hope they made one with Mark - if this to be the final send off from the Shepard story.  I never finished a FemShep playthrough, so while cool hearing "a Shepard", hearing one with Mark would be dandy.

Whether or not there really is a send off in the game, or this is just a marketing stunt, it was quite a surprise but it worked.  I'm excited for the game.  It does, however, make me wonder when this story takes place.  No doubt s/he is still "Commander", so probably before the ending.  Yet, the ship design, Mako and armor design looks years advanced.  Perhaps the ARK big-wigs dug up an old Shepard pep-talk and emailed it to them.  Either way...it is an intriguing trailer.

Male Shepard was my first Shepard, and forever part of my "head canon", so hearing him give a send-off would be awesome. But he isn't nearly as internet popular as Hale was. And maybe bioware just didn't want to ask him back. I have no clue why. But I don't expect to randomly get a send off with him. (then again 82% beat the game as Male Shepard, so maybe they'll have him do something at least)

82% of xbox users polled at the time you mean. And as the DA:I stats show, for some reason xbox users disproportinally chose male protagonist compared to other systems.

He's vastly more popular. That has nothing to do with it.

So much in the margins that Casey Hudson quipped that they're offering her as a privilege.. because they're taking a money loss on including the option. Then people bit off his head.

I've noticed there's an awful lot of post either stating Shepard knew about the Ark or Shepard is still alive and going on the Ark or some other over the top theory. I think at this point the whole Ark theory is all but officially confirmed, but I think people are thinking way WAY to hard on this whole Shepard thing. I think it was a simple marketing pull because hey, who doesn't want to hear Shepard talking and giving a nice fair well to the fans?

If Halo 5 taught me anything Marketing can be VERY misleading, but the whole Shepard thing, nah I don't see it.

Or they don't have to and stick with the female version. Just like how they constantly 'fed' us with maleshep and no female Shep in sight. One vid/voice over with female Shepard won't kill you.

Also, people are reading too much into the video. It was just a farewell to the fans, Shepard's story is over.

I don't think he meant anything bad about it. He was just talking bottom line or something, and it came out badly.

Not that I ever expressed fear of death. I simply said it would be awesome. And I wouldn't mind femshep videos at all. I would just have liked to hear Mark Meer say goodbye, as that's the voice I was more attached to.
And I said they will likely stick with the one video. Literally every word of your rebuttal agaisnt me was pointless.

If Shepard knew, it implies that she's a little smarter than she sometimes (by which I mean always) acts. A nice fantasy.

Most likely. But it sucks how dangerous it can be to say anything out loud when you are semi-famous.

He probably wrote the story as Maleshep and was a bit upset at the online hate he got too.

And I'm telling you that maybe they don't have to just because he was the marketing boy. It had nothing to do with who's popular, they just chose the female Shepard (finally). And i'm personally glad with the option. :)

Some of the stuff being posted on various sites due to the dislike for femShep voicing the N7Day trailer is getting really, really bad. It was nice to see femShep get the spotlight for once, whereas for ME1 and ME2 it was all maleShep. Now I want to rage at BioWare for releasing this trailer using only femShep's voice because they created more hostility towards their female fans.  :(

Ooh I see.
I didn't mean it like they had to. Or that they should re-voice the trailer or anything of the sort. I am not upset they went with Hale either. She did really well.

I just want something from Mark Meer too. Don't expect it at all, and I don't just want it since he was the marketing boy. I just want to hear my Shepard saying bye.

Those people are just very vocal and few. So I wouldn't worry, it was a good step for them since many people liked the video already.

I barely managed to read through some comments from the sheer stupidity tbh. It was so bad, i really worry for their mental state.

Really? I didn't see anything hateful. That is really sad. I was trying hard to avoid insulting Hale or femshep players. I'm sorry:(

My view is the Ark was built during ME2 as a "just in case" scenario.  Humanity had the time and resources to do so. In ME3, all resources were assigned to the Reaper weapon (can't remember its name off hand) as humanity was under Reaper attack.

It explains the overall number of humans, as it was a human project. Hell, could be it was ripped off from Cerberous. Also, explains the "...long after..." from the leaked poll. The Ark's journey was lengthy.

If the engines pushed the Ark 40 LY/day, at 2.2 million LY distance  the time travelled is roughly 150 yrs. More, if the speed/day is less.

I understand and sorry if I sounded harsh, that wasn't my intention. I also wanted many female trailers and pictures as the dude but alas, never got much except one trailer and very few posters.

Maybe they'll do something different with the dude but it would be nice for once that she gets the last word. :P

It's the femshep fans who urge Bioware on like this. It never happened until people got mad about it. They want this new game to be heavily female marketed too.

I don't mind myself, but I don't think it's going to do them or the series any favors.
