Indeed.

I would love to see a scene where a sword wielding opponent tries to threaten us, and then we react like we would in the real world.

indiana-jones-gun-beats-sword-o.gif

I'm anti sword in this game. I don't think it fits the setting, and it's like never balanced well. But real world? You can't teleport to people or turn invisible in the real world. Getting into melee is and has been easy in this game. How effective it has been and should be once there is debatable. I say more than pistol much less than shotgun. If it's balanced and they lore it up right I'm not intrinsically opposed.

What does that matter when they create armors as cool as this?

me3_sur_kesh___cerberus_troops_by_chicks

Seriously, if the Alliance had this kind of quality soldiers, then we would have defeated the Reapers with extreme prejudice.

The armor means nothing when I can just use my Physics breaking sword to splatter their brains.

The swords would have been better if bioware just added a orange tint to them. Then people Would be fine with the addition of Magic space katanas,

I actually think the orange lightsaber effect was silly.

As for blades in general.  Just read Dune.  The Holtzman shields people wore for protection operated in a way very similar to kinetic barriers.  They'd protect you from a gunshot, but not a slower-moving blade.  As such, bladed weapons are plausible holdout weapons.  Especially with futuristic materials making for stronger, sharper blades.

edit;  But for a primary weapon?  No

This is why i spec into armor damage for all my shadow builds. heated swords look more effective. But who knows? maybe N7 shadows can punch through steel with ease.

Not gonna lie. It'd be my primary. Build my Legend with nothing but my wits, biotics and handy dandy space blade.

Marxism

Forced in-game cultural Marxism based on some out-of-game SJW agenda.  The game SHOULD tackle with realistic issues such as sexism, racism, and other real world issues.  This would make it more believable and down-to-earth.  What I don't want to see is everyone being loved and accepted for who they are because the writers can't stomach seeing their self-inserts being prejudiced against in their own little fantasy lands.  This would offer more dynamics to character interaction other than

Just learn better and dont ever say this sh!t, nevermore.
You must to know basics about marxism to found it in the plot.=)

Bioware made several games. They have good parts, even some very good parts. And other that are terrible and that you hope you will never see again.

I'm not talking about plot twist, personnal feeling about the story or the artwork part. No, I'm talking about parts that can break the immersion and give some negative feeling.

I just want Shepard. As someone already wrote: "in any form".

The idea that the radar guns of the future can't be set to activate a shield at speeds for a melee strike seems weird to me. Punches wouldn't hurt if they moved at sitting down on a chair speeds.

But if they lore it up and balance it I could see it as a primary for certain classes. I don't want it, but I could see it. I'd lean more towards biotic than tech and blunt weapons than bladed. But mass shifts while striking with a mace, hammer, fists seems plausible for the setting.

The answer is simple, Garrus isn't calibrating these shields, so they aren't that precise  :D

But really, the interesting thing about these shields is that they don't protect you from everything.  They weren't just blue hit points.  They'll protect you from a krogan's shotgun, but not from a melee attack if they get too close.   And while a Mako's shields could laugh off multiple geth rockets, the acid stream from a thresher maw was a real threat.

Yet the shields work in ME2/3. I guess they got Garrus to work on them while Shep was dead.

I want shields to work on them. One it makes sense to me. Two it is hard enough to balance a limitless resource attack vs a limited resource attack. having it ignore certain defenses especially ones that are used to tune difficulty is a nightmare to balance. It would create a bizzare effect where melee became a better choice the higher your difficulty.

In ME2/3, shields were blue hit points.  That's boring. Not to mention it makes no sense that it will protect you from a vorcha flamethrower to the face

I'd rather see shields being the primary protection against ranged attacks, and armor against melee attacks

Well there are ways to combat that. Like "who brings a knife to a gunfight?" How about the hybrid class that can use their omnitool as a shield to get in close to finish their opponents via melee attacks/weapons?

I just have a massive personal distaste for it in a shooter, it's existence rubs me the wrong way. But, it's possible to craft the lore which is not very detailed on this subject to get to almost any answer. So the answer can be, who brings a knife to a gun fight?. But it can also be I have these tools so I easily close on people and my super sayan punches finish them off quickly.

Basically I'm saying any answer can be done within the logical constraints of the game. I personally hate it and don't want it but that's not the same thing. My hope is melee is not supported as a primary damage dealer, and if it is its balanced in a way that shotguns which have ammo issues and also want close range combat are more damaging.

I agree with you, I don't like swords in a game like Mass Effect either, but like you, it needs to make sense. I only posted my response because I think that's the best way to do it.

Here's what I want....

1) If you are going to add a jump button that's fine but for the love of god do not make the terrain in a way that forces me to jump to traverse it like you did in Inquisiton. Yes,those god damn stupid irritating pointless stones on the ****** storm coast! it's not funny or clever its irritating.

2) pop-culture references. They dont make any sense unless EVERYONE knows what you are referring to.The key word being popular. Even then stop taking me out of the game to try and be funny.

3) Forcing me to recognise your equality sexual or otherwise just to try and be inclusive. I do not care that a character is gay or dresses like a woman if it adds absolutely nothing to the story. You're not Ubisoft and nobody cares that a gay man helped to make a video game!

4) When two characters are having a conversation, try to get the sound so that I can actually hear what is being said rather than straining to hear anything because you've put an NPC next to a damn waterfall!

5) more complex doesn't mean better. if you are going to have some form of crafting in the game make it simple. it doesn't need to have so many moving parts you forget stuff.

6) Level scaling. I think i speak for most people when i say we absolutely hate it. If you are going to have level scaling enemies then take out the difficulty option since its moot. If not, then use another system like rubber banding in fallout did.

7) Real time missions that take 24 hours game time to complete. I mean why? what on earth does that possibly accomplish except to make me take longer to finish the game.

8) Rewards for said missions. I am sick of waiting however many hours for a mission to finish only to be given some shitty item that is about as much use as paper windows or a cardboard roof.

9) A lack of storage. I cannot count the amount of times i found a thread asking for storage in inquisition so do yourselves a favour and put it in from the get go. I know you might not think we need one and maybe thats true but some of us like to know its there in case we need it.

10) Dont make me work my ass off for a resource in the game and then allow me to use game currency to pay for it later. One or the other!

11) requisitions in inquisiton. Broken horrible and largely useless. fix them or leave them out.

12) and finally for my last entry can you please for the love of all that is holy STOP MAKING FOLLOWERS STOP SO DAMN CLOSE TO ME! Jesus ****** christ the amount of times i turned around and...oh they're blocking the door again. Oh Cassandras in my way for the millionth time.

1) I take note. Could be interesting.

2) Don't have any popculture reference in my ME version. Probably lost with the translation...

3) I take note.

4) I take note. But I don't remember a place where an NPC stand close to a noisy place (exept the Afterlife, but you can hear).

5) ME never had any form of crafting. But yeah, after the DAI disaster, must take note.

6) Level scaling is good if make with talent. If made poorly, it is bad. I Liked the level scaling of ME1...

7 and 8) War table missions are already on the "not to do" list.

9) I take note.

10) I don't understand. Why must the MC have the monopol on one ressource?

11) War table mission, so on the list.

12) The "dumb follower AI" is a disease spread in almost all the games. It is too late. ;)

I agree here, although I think you should make a notable exception for lightsabers.

If I ever see another sword used in Mass Effect though, I'm instantly gonna be reminded of crappy Nightwing Kai Leng. Nobody likes that guy.
