What do you NOT want to see in ME:A?

I actually want MORE of that.
Because you do realize a LOT of major sci-fi franchises like Star Trek, Babylon 5, Crusade, Godzilla, Blade Runner, Mad Max, Battlestar Galactica, Star Wars, Firefly/Serenity, and even The Twilight Zone, were created to explore and/or address real world issues and if Mass Effect wants to be one of the first video game franchises to be treated as a serious work of sci-fi than BioWare has to be willing explore and/or address current real world issues, even if you may not like it or how they handle it. IMHO however I feel it is ABSOLUTELY VITAL that BioWare continue to that if they want the Mass Effect franchise to grow.
Also since I have a lot less faith in humanity to get over itself in only 200 years I don't think a lot of our current social problems still haven't gone away in the Mass Effect universe.
So agree with this awesome post. Science fiction is a genre that completely lends itself to social allegory, all the way back to Frankenstein. I mean it's constantly asking questions of who and what we are, where we came from and where we'll be. To ignore social issues would be the death of science fiction. It sounds dramatic but the genre would truly become stale and lifeless.
We're a species in it's infancy and we have a lot of growing to do. I hope we never stop giving voice to that journey

- Fetch quests/sidequests.
- Always online.
- DLC dependent main quest.
- Sloppy PC port.
- Low res textures.
- No option to use controller on PC.
These are just a few things from the top of my head that I hope will NOT happen.

NO more space ninjas!!! No more Space katanas?
The only katana worth having is the shotgun!
Agreed. Why does mainstream sci-fi IPs always seem to assume that just because we are in the future that suddenly melee weapons will become viable again?
I can see the use in having a weapon that bypasses kinetic barriers, and punctures armor easily, but you know what's better than devoting both hands to wield an ungainly sword in a firefight? A knife, or an omni-blade.
Instances outside of that, where I could see a melee focus being viable would be for a species with natural melee capabilities; such as the Rachni; but even then they had other methods of attack and didn't look nearly as stupid charging headlong into combat as the Phantoms and Kai Lame do.

Agreed And if they absolutely have to have space swords, they could at least model them on a decent type of blade....

Actually - I would have preferred that having a party member with the necessary skills would be all that was required. Any such mini-game that relies on player skills takes away from role-play. That mini-game is one of the reasons I'm not eager to replay ME1.
The return of non-combat skills would be very welcome.
ETA:
I see a lot of discussion where people want more choice and consequences in their RPGs - which makes sense, as it is a foundational aspect of them.
I think that not being able to hack something should be a natural consequence of not having someone in your party with the appropriate skills.
So much this.

Secondly, don't listen to this guy, Bioware. I want a space sword. Lol.
Also, I don't want ME:A to just be another corridor Shooter. More options in attack planning. Why can't I have the element of surprise? Gimme dat CRIT HIT!

Given how kinetic barriers are SUPPOSED to work, swords and knives actually make sense as sidearms.
Of course, they've pretty much been reduced to force fields/blue hit points, so...

A human focused plot and human's being the only ones who can save the day. But if the leaks are any indication the plot will most certainly be human focused.

Aaryn Flynn confirmed that the reason the protagonist is human-only is because they want to tell a very "human" story so it will almost definitely be human-centric again unfortunately.

Cause that's what the series needs after a heavily human-centric trilogy. ![]()

Shields maybe, and even that is a stretch. Kinetic barriers you can just put up and could decide to put up when you see a punch coming, so it would stop the punch, shields rely upon a computer detecting a fast moving object so its possible their tech is worse than todays and can't tell the speed difference between a punch and sitting down. They were smart enough to let shields and barriers stop melee in ME2 and on and it doesn't even lore break as the codex entry is fairly vague. All they have to say is they recalibrated the computer so now it adapts and activates your shield when about to be struck by melee attacks.
Swords don't make sense in a railgun setting without resoruce issues, they just dont. Its potentially possible they will go for a fallout vibe where you horde your thermal clips or power supplies so melee while alot less effective becomes more attractive but i hope not.

Bioware should really read this post, I think the fanbase in general know what needs to be done to make a successful game. What I think should be done: No auto dialogue, cut scenes for all character interaction, make side quests matter, quality over quantity, no war assets or Dragon Age war tables, make the maps full of content and not empty explorable spaces, don't make our character space Jesus, make squadmates have their own opinions and agendas ( no yes men).
50% of the time, no they do not

The over sexualized model of character: EDI, while controversial, created a substantial amount of reaction from the Mass Effect fanbase. Sex sells. So is how the human saying goes. And being that humans are creating the new Mass Effect video game, assuming they would want it to sell, they might be foolish not to include "cameltoe" or some equally suggestive form of sexual content.
