But then again, why would they create an Ark kind of spaceship?

It's the only feasible way to mount an expedition to another galaxy. I'm beginning to think now that this expedition might have nothing to do with the reaper threat, but may in fact be an entirely separate voyage of discovery planned since before we even met Shepard. Time will tell...

How do you explain the M40 (Mako?) from the E3 trailer?

That means what in regards of when the ship left?

Why can't it be a prototype vehicle specifically made for the folks going to Andromeda?

I doubt it.

With so much of the Milky Way not colonized and unexplored, it seems unlikely anyone would throw so many resources into such a venture.  This would require serious capital, far too much for a journey of discovery with no way of returning their investment.

I'd've said that myself up until yesterday. I was pretty sure that the mission to Andromeda would be a contingency plan to escape the reapers, but given the fact that you seem in the trailer to be leaving from pre-invasion Earth, and the amount of resources that would need to be put into the building of a ship on such a scale, it seems unlikely that it was built concurrently with the crucible. For now we still don't have nearly enough to go on to jump to any firm conclusions. We'll just have to see what explanation they give us...

ARK suggests we're fleeing a catastrophe. Perhaps, we are not. Could have been done before ME1, ME2, or ME3. And this isn't something Shepard would have to know about, but one would assume, a giant space boat being able to hold hundred of thousands of people.. Somebody would have to have known.

Is it actually called the M40?? Or are you just saying that? I must have missed that they revealed the actual designation number of it

Yep. Says so on the Mako as it drives by in the E3 2015 trailer.

I wouldn't take the trailer that literally, departing earth is more meaningful with all the actual astronaut footage they cut in.

Even if it is pre-invasion, its possible the project started three years ago after Sovereign's attack, which is a slightly more believable time scale.

And we still don't really know what the scale is.  It looks big, but that's a wide window.  A Reaper is two kilometers long.  The Citadel is 44.7km long.  Of the two, I'm guessing its closer to Reaper size.

The video doesn't confirm outright whether it takes place before or after ME3 ending. If it takes place after ME3, then I'd have to believe Bioware has to pick either destroy or control endings as canon since those are the only ones where Shepard lives. Then there would be a question as to what drives the trip to Andromeda. I'd prefer it leave after ME3, but it is more likely it leaves before since Bioware is probably scared of the backlash if they picked an ending.

It wouldn't take decades to build an Ark ship in the MEU given their advanced mechs & technology, for starters it would be modular in construction, which is the way we build super tankers/aircraft carriers etc because it's faster, & if your work force is 1000's if not 10's of 1000's of mechs who can work 24/7, the process would be even faster, & if you were really pushed for time you would repurpose an already built structure or fleet of ships, which would make construction even faster still.

It's a good point, but I still feel it would make more sense if this was a low-profile contingency plan devised in case the Reapers would wipe out the Milky Way. The war was repeatedly said to be near-impossible to win. It wouldn't be a stretch to think a subset of humans were sent out of the Milky Way to preserve and ensure their survival as a species.

But yes, it's all speculation at this point!

How can you tell? I didn't see it beside anything that would give us a sense of scale.

You're kidding...

Why go to another galaxy if you can stay in yours?  I dunno, why go to Mars if we can stay on Earth?

Personally I thought the N7 Trailer was a bit meh - congratulations Commander, you have just won a science/space race victory in Civ V...

It tells us nothing about when the Ark was launched or, really, why - it simply gives us a rousing Humanity #1 speech and shows a spaceship that looks a little like an Alliance take on a Collector ship ... with fins; actually it looks more like the X3 Hyperion than anything else:

... and that's only a corvette class ship.

I'm not. It looks large, but that's quite a range. We don't know how big it is.
