Overrides on a server, how does it work?

Hello, I'm trying to run a custom module I made myself with a friend over a simulated LAN connection, I have installed Kaedrins PRC in my override folder since I read that haks are not loaded until after character creation and that this is the only way to get custom classes from level 1.

The module I have made seems to work fine, and my friend is able to join without crashing out of the game.

When I join the server I get all the custom content from Kaedrins PRC and can choose any class during character creation, but when my friend joins she can only use the classes from the official campaign. So I'm wondering how this is supposed to work since it's the first time I have tried to run a server like this, and would be very grateful if someone could answer these questions.

1) Does my friend need all the override files that I have installed on the server? This seems a bit troublesome if it's the case although I suppose it might work.

2) If not, is there some settings I need to change in order to make a joining player able to use the server override files? This seems more logical to me.

I know a lot of persistent worlds use custom classes and races, so someone should be able to answer this I hope, but my google skills failed me. Thanks in advance for any help! :)

you're friend would also have to have the Keadrins files in their override for them to be able to use them. they would also have to have any hak packs in their hak folder that are used in the module.

Also if you are running you're module as a server then you can use Keadrins as a hak as all the haks will be loaded by the server before you log on. Anyone that logs on will need all the hak files along with the mod files and campaign files in the respective folders in their my documents nwn2 folders. Marshallv did a great video demo for setting up servers( was done mainly for persistent worlds but also works for lan games)  you can do a search for Marshall V on youtube to find all his video's

So you are saying that Kaedrins PRC can be used as a hak within the module? I would very much like to do this if possible but this seems to contradict everything I have read about the subject. From what I understand, any files that adds custom classes, races or deities to the game needs to go into the override directory if it should be available on character creation.

I know all the haks are loaded before you log in, but the in-game character creation does not seem to load the content from the haks, but it does load content from the override folder.

I checked out Marshalls guide but it didn't contain much new information, and most of it is for setting up mysql, nwnx and things like that which I don't really need. I have tried running my module with my friend, we got it all up and running, my friend has the haks needed as well. So I guess we will try to copy my override onto my friends computer next and hope that works.

Thanks for trying to help!

Kanis is correct, haks load before the module now so there is no need to use overrides.

It used to be the case you had to use overrides for custom stuff at character creation but that changed a long time ago, might have been when the auto downloader came along.

I run lan games at a local game shop in my area from time to time and have never had a problem with Keadrins in hak form, everyone was able to use the custom classes at character creation.

I have a separate Computer ( that is all that computer is used for I log in with a second machine) to run the server from then once it is up and running ppl log in as if they were logging into a regular persistant world aand everything works fine. I followed Marshalls video and had no problems.

Thanks both of you, if that's the case then running Kaedrins PRC as a hak is definitely the way I need to go!

Big thanks for the help! I'm glad I was wrong since it makes things a lot easier! :)

I got the newest single player version of Kaedrins from the vault, and put everything in a hakpak, and then everything worked except that the module wasn't able to read the dialog.tlk, moving the dialog.tlk into the documents/nwn2 folder seems to work, do i need to import the tlk file separately into the module in some way if i want to distribute it with the module?

When I started running the lan games and anytime I change modules I run through the file staging on my build computer and then put the files on the server machine, as far as the files for the players I just put those on a disk so the players can then use the disk to put them on their machines, I haven't had any problems doing it like that.
