Well, we did suspect that Bioware was continuing Mass Effect.
1) The Citadel DLC did show that the Council knew about the Reaper threat and knew Sovereign was a Reaper. The Council's public line was "Geth Attack". They knew they couldn't beat the reapers without a miracle.
2) The ark project would make sense to have begun immediately.
3) Given that the trailer shows the ship leaving Earth might indicate that it left during the six months that Shepard was incarcerated after Arrival while the Batarian systems were being chomped. if this is the case, there is a possibility that there is a sample of all of the major races in the Mass Effect series.
I would think they leave during the Reaper attack, like one month before the Crucible triumph/disaster. I do agree that it's likely most races would make it to Andromeda. The only race that I wouldn't mind not seeing in Andromeda would be the Vorcha.
