Here's an interesting question that I thought I'd ask. What role would they fill in a family? Parents, siblings, cousins, aunts/uncles, distant relatives, even family pet if you wish (other than Dog if you want). It can be from just one game or the entire series (and if you wish, you can include advisors) or you could choose mix game companions.
If the main character and Companions were an actual family...

Alistair- Husband and lover of Cousland
Cousland: Wife and lover of Alistair
Wynne: Grandmother of Alistair
Ohgren: Creepy, drunken person that sits around your camp. Not really part of your family. Just a random dude that happens to be there.
Zevran: That one guy that tried to kill you. Brother of Leliana
Leliana: The chantry sister. Sister of Cousland and Zevran
Sten: A huge guy that scares everyone. He likes to steal cookies for unspecting children. Is the uncle of the group.
Shale: The rock. Do not threaten her (especially if your bird) if you don't wish your head to be crushed by her. She is the decor of the group.

Female Mage Lavellan:
Solas: Husband.
Cole: Son. (He is her adopted baby and I will not hear otherwise!)
Dorian: Very much beloved gay older brother and best friend.
Sera: Bratty, irresponsible little sister who's only interested in going out, drinking and partying, and doesn't want to hear about any of that boring stuff her stuffy, boring, priggish, pious (to the elven gods), "elfy" older sister likes to talk about.
Blackwall: Grandpa who bores the kids with his moralizing and stories.
Vivienne: The stereotypical unmarried but wealthy and glamorous socialite of an aunt who chose a life of lavish parties and high society (which she uses her beauty and sex appeal to get her lovers to fund) over love or family (unlike her dowdy, boring sister who threw away all her prospects on marriage and motherhood), who tries to become something of a mentor to her young niece, to teach her how to use her feminine charms as she did to steer her down the "right" path, but whose choices and lifestyle said niece (Lavellan) doesn't fully agree with and doesn't wish to follow. (Kind of mirrors Vivienne trying to take on a mentor role for the Inquisitor, and quickly being rebuked by an Inquisitor actually cares about mages.)
Iron Bull: Eh, that cousin who likes to drink and party a lot. Gets along with the partying little sister (Sera), but doesn't really have anything in common with his cousin apart from "they're related" and they have some friendly small talk whenever they see each other.
Varric: That cool uncle who comes to every holiday party, gives the best gifts, tells the best stories, is adored by the kids (who flock to him like he's Santa Clause--hell, who probably does dress as Santa every Christmas), and is otherwise just the life of the party every family get-together he attends. And he's a famous published author, of course.
Cassandra: I dunno... She's either the even more highly strung and responsible older sister than Lavellan is to Sera, or she's the other aunt who acts as a more down-to-earth and reasonable foil to Vivienne. (She could really go either way. While she can act as a "big sister" figure to Lavellan and Sera, she's also significantly older and often clashes with Vivienne as a matriarchal figure, especially after Trespasser if one becomes the Divine and the other strongly disagrees with the other.)

(Male Mage Lavellen)
Cassandra- Wife. She is the only woman friece enough for me.... She may be human, but man, she can beat the crap out of guys (besides for when they hit on her, it's my job to kill them! With my spirt sword!) And girls alike. That's some hard core bad assery in her, even though she is a hopeless romantic of a sort. I sometimes feel like Varric likes her too. I'm sort of envious of him to be honest, I'm a horrible poet. But at least he has Bianka to think about.
Varric- He's that one uncle that always has a joke ready on him. He's pretty cool, I like him just fine. Condersing that I killed his little sis Hawke, I don't think he has much to say to me. Which is fine, but image if the King Consort of Ferelden heard that I killed his companion during the Blight. He probaly wouldn't mind, and just tell them "Alistair is dead? What does Morrgian think about this? Hmm...
Vivienne: She's my distant cousin. She is a cold, and calculating woman. I like that about her, sense I am too. But that Noble attuide makes me hate her guts sometimes.
Iron Bull: He's half-brothers with Blackwall. I hate Qunari. I hate everything that has to do with the Qunari. Their untrustworthy and I despise that. But I also dislike him constansly flirting with Cass. I sometimes have to use my spirt sword on him, when he's too drunk to see my infuriated face.
Sera: I like her. Even though I find Iron Bull and Vivienne annoying, she fascinates me. Even though I may be Dalish, she is fasanting to me. She hates my magic though, although her opinion of the Dalish is... Less then good. She has a lovely, wild nature to her. She's my little sister.
Blackwall: Boring. Next? He's my cousin, son of Solas.
Solas: My uncle. Ugh, he likes to think he knows more about the fade then I do. I'm a Mage too! Just becuase I'm not a bloody dreamer, doesn't mean that I don't know less about the fade then I do. I'm not about to pull the fool's Anders idiotic trick of becoming a abomantion out of sheer moroness. I think Anders is many words, non very kind. But he soon left, for some unknown reason. Turns out he was Fen'heral. Well, I don't worship him or any God so it matters to me not. It makes me feel like that lier thought I'd go tell my Keeper about him being a elven God of evil, though I'm not daft enough to do that, but I'm not weak and I trusted him.
Josie: She's my distant relative. Not very interesting though.
Leliana: Sister of Zevran, she isn't a part of our family. She is a family friend, however.
Cole: Our adopted son! I love this little spirt, he's all about the compassion. Him and Cassandra get along, just fine.
Dorian: Cousin. He's got the snark to snark with me. Although, my younger brother Archer, sure does seem like to like him. I think Archer likes to him the point, where I have to stare at him for a whole moment to get him from obsessing over Dorian. He says I'm so uptight to be a first, but I tell him that if I wasn't (if I were a total push over) then I wouldn't be taken seriously.
Cullen: Half younger brother. Yet again, Archer loves his looks. I know Archer likes men, but he's my half brother, who is far older then him. He doesn't relante though. I like Cullen just fine, he's a good man. And he's taken by the Former First Enchanter Anastaia Trevelyan, who decided to leave the Rebels to go to the Inquisiton. She seems somewhat weak in my oponion, but she's a good match for Cullen though. I like Cullen, he's been through a lot of crap in his life, which is good. We're decent friends, to be honest. Also, Archer loves his stuttering around me, which makes me wonder if Archer has romantic feelings for both Cullen and Dorian. I suppose he thinks I don't understand, but I do. (Archer Is my Dorian romacer and younger brother of Artemis, the current speaker. I suppose I added him for effect)

Nathaniel Howe - husband
Warden - the guy who secretly loves me, trained me to be a mage, my "rabbi" if you will.
Wynne - Beloved older aunt who gives very wise advice even when you don't ask for it.
Zeveran - Cousin who lives on the wrong side of the law but comes to all the family reunions, usually with expensive contraband to give as gifts.
Sten-Scary older uncle suffering from PTSD who has violent flashbacks. Cookies have a sedative effect on him.
Oghren - other uncle also suffering from PTSD who drinks to dull flashbacks.
Morrigan - Sneaky older sister who's out to snag the Warden
Leliana - Younger sister who suffers from Delusional Disorder (She thinks God talks to her.) Everyone still invites her to the reunion because she sings so well.

Hero of Ferelden, Female City Elf.
Alistair: Husband.
Morrigan: Sister. (And Alistair's hated sister-in-law.)
Dog: What else? ;P
Zevran: Brother.
Wynne: Grandmother.
Sten: Disapproving uncle; but still loving, stalwart and hardworking, who at the end of the day is just trying to pass on his good morals and work ethic.
Oghren: Drunken, inappropriate uncle. The kind who gets wasted at every family get-together, tells inappropriate jokes and stories, inappropriately hits on all the females (even ones he's related to), then at some point every time gets into loud drunken fights with the dog or inanimate objects (like the Thanksgiving turkey) and passes out in odd places. And yet he's tolerated because he's family.
Leliana: That cousin who won't stop talking about how great it is being a born-again Andrastian. ("Yes, Leliana. It's great that you're no longer lost, confused, or in a bad place since you found Andraste. We're all very happy for you; but would you please stop talking about it??")
Shale: I didn't recruit her. Probably a garden statue.
DAA companions, because I love them too:
DAA Anders: Twin. They're both blonde, silly, snarky, and secretly enraged about the oppression of their people (him mages, her elves) but hide behind stepford snarkery. (Even when I first saw him in DAA, I thought, "OMG, he's the male human mage version of my female elven rogue.")
Nathaniel: ... Wealthy distant relation. He's from the side of the family that became rich and successful (but recently fell on hard times), while she was born on the "wrong side of the tracks," from the side of the family that stayed dirt poor.
Sigrun: Sister. I don't even care how big this family's getting.
Velanna: That cousin she's known all her life and feels very loyal to, but logically knows if they weren't related they wouldn't have anything to do with each other because Velanna can be so hostile and unfriendly. (All attempts at small talk at family parties and get-togethers got met with scoffs and eye-rolling, or snappy reprimands.)
Justice: I don't even know. Some distant relation who recently married into the family and is trying to make sense of all these strange family customs that they don't have where he's from (i.e. the Fade).

Inquisitor: Mom (I feel like one. Having to clean up people's mess, being the one where people look up to when they needed help and when they can't do some things that needs to be done, being there for them and help them grow to their full potential, etc)
Cullen : A supportive husband which he is..
Cassandra: My Inquisitor's mom, LoL (if you erase the age factor) if not, my Inquisitor's very responsible, perfectionist and high strung big sister, whom everyone in the family fears and respects.
Sera : Inquisitor's bratty little sister, annoying and endearing at the same time, but who loves you much and look after you quietly from a distance. If Inqui have kids later on, she'll teach them baking.
Solas : The Mysterious Uncle. Awsome and cool, but you just don't know what he does
Varric : That awsome brother who has made it and never forgets about the family. Your partner in solving family matters and problems (which usually involves little sister Sera). If Inqui has kids, he'll most likely be that cool uncle that brings expensive toys. And my Inqui will be there reminding him not to spoil his nephew and niece too much.
Cole : Varric's adopted son (thank's to Blackwall-Cole banter: "Look, it seems that Varric has adopted you.." ^^') it kinda sticks on me.
Blackwall: a very helpfull family friend with shady past that got your back, have camp outs and BBQ together. And always reminding everyone to be a good person and not fall into his mistakes.
Vivienne: The cool stylish aunt with lotsa money and a life of party. Always complaining about 'low standards' everywhere and always commenting on how you dress and what designer's brand you should wear. Your biggest fashion police. Can't understand why you choose a domestic life but still loves you anyway (in her own sense. If you could endure her critique. Which is quite often)
Dorian: That accademically over-achieving cousin. You love his ideas, weird inventions and occasionally nerd each other out. A cool well dressed nerd with very expensive taste (on everything: clothing, food, toys, spouse..)
Iron Bull: A familly friend that likes to act brash and drinks a lot and one might think Bull will go on an all out clash with cousin Dorian because both have strong personalities while being opposites to each other... only they ended up being together
Josephine : A very much loved aunt that will give you many many stories that has a lot of nice things, teach you table manners and etiquette.
Leliana : That rebellious goth cousin that never forgets to do her prayers daily. Always dressed in black, give depressing looks. She is the head honcho of a street gang that commands them to do charity and protects the religious. No, the family just cant figure her out. No one seems to can even when they've tried their hardest. But we all love her never the less.

If the Inquisition was a family, with a Male Dwarf Warrior in the lead.
Cassandra would be the older sister. Stern, but protecting the little brother. Not attempting to force her beliefs on others, but slowly comes to the realization that Little Brother no longer needs her protection
Solas would be Grandfather. Incurably wise, distant, always eager to teach and learn.
Varric would be First Cousin, the one who lives close by and is always willing to go to the bar on Friday night, once someone was around to watch the kids.
Blackwall would be Father. Did things in his past he'd rather forget, and tries to force himself into a life of normalcy.
Vivienne is a Grand Dame Aunt. Unmarried, wealthy, and respected, she's the one he didn't like as a child, always calling him a "little scurrier", and never really understanding the lessons she taught. But now, as an adult, he can respect the manners and other things now that he understands it.
Sera is Little Sister. Bratty, irresponsible, and very set in her ways. The Dwarf must wonder if he was like that at her age.
Cole is the tenant who is renting out the spare guest bedroom on Airbnb. Strange, weird, doesn't really follow all of the worlds customs. But good-hearted and decent.
Iron Bull is the Cool Uncle. Nuff said.
Dorian is the annoying whiny kid who lives down the street
Leliana is Mother. She nurtures and is full of forgiveness and faith. But woe behold anyone who crosses her or harms the child.
Cullen is the Older Brother, the veteran who came back. Very scarred, very jaded, still having trouble adjusting after coming back from the war.
Josephine is the eldest child, who handled things from a young age.

Archer Lavellen
Cassandra: She's my mom. And my older brothers crush. She scares me, I can't not believe that'd Artemis likes her. Then again, he seems to like Morrigan too. She terrifies me, really, and not much scares me. Cass slamming with her shield is something that is deeply painful, I must tell you. But she's such a hopeless romantic, that it makes me giggle. She and Arty are a match made in Heaven, two hard headed, slightly scary people with romantic hearts getting together.
Dorian: My love! My husband. I love him. He's the only one for me. It's was kind of sad watching Aurora getting her heart broken by him, but she moved on. Hopefully. Or she's still mooning over that cold, selfish abandoning idiot Solas. Hmph. Enough about he must never be named. Well, Dorian is still in Tevinter, so I have Cullen all to myself. Despite that he has a wife, and she's pregnant. Damn you, Trevelyan! I want a man to drown my tears in. And Cullen is the one to do that too.
Solas: Great Uncle. Hmph. I hate his guts, nobody breaks my sisters heart and gets away with It!
Cole: Our adopted son. I have him to go cry on, actually. But he's a spirt, and a little creepy to be honest. I don't know how Solas and Artemis are so into sprits and the fade, but I find it slightly creepy that he can read my mind at will and tell me what I'm thinking. I don't think i should think of this actually. It'd drive me nuts.
Vivienne? Who's this Vivienne everyone's been speaking about? (Never rectured her.)
Varric: My cool uncle. Try's to relax Artemis. Doesn't work, if you ask Arty to calm down, he'll get just more anguish. It's the sad circle of life. But he makes me laugh, and relaxs Cass just enough to allow her to not yell at me. I think she and Varric are a thing, despite Arty doing everything in his lowly power to get Cass. I think he's failing, poor planning Arty. He always planned for everything, but I don't think he planned for his heart to be broken by Cass though.
The Iron Bull: I like his way of thinking! Which is no thinking and parties! I feel bad for Artemis though, he hates everything about parties. And he hates Qunari everything. And i like Krem, he's too awesome and I had a bit of a mild crush on him (he's so cute. I couldn't help myself.) And he's got this strong wine, which usually ends up with me in bed with a some guy. I don't usually do one nighters, but around him I easily could. It's a fun experience of life, one nighters. He's my distant relative
Sera: My little sister! Oh, she's got this way about her. This not thinking way, which I throughly like. She's not good with words, but she's a awesome little one. I like how she got together with Dagna I ship them hard. I usually tease her about it, but she teases me about Dorian. She's the type of person that goes and pranks people, I usually join her to be honest, she bothers the crap out of Ary, who is both fast and strong enough to catch us both. Ah, but he lets her go usually. I think he has a soft spot for her.
Blackwall: Great Uncle. Meh, he's boring. Arty is right on this one. He must be having a laugh at my expense.. That smart Alec
Cullen: OMG, CULLEN? HES A PRETTY FAMILY FRIEND! HES SO CUTE, ITS A SHAME I CANT HAVE HIM ALL TO MYSELF! Ok, around Cullen I get pretty day dreamy. Hmm, my biggest crush ever, and I can't have him. Trevelyan is in my way. As cruel as it may sound I often image her demise. Which is cruel becuase she's preggers with his kid.

Varric: Family friend (or Cassandra's estranged ex for drama?)
Ahah I could read some fanfiction with that idea.
Sera: long-lost daughter or step-daughter who hates the Inquisitor in the beginning but slowly warms up to him. They end up bonding over baking cookies.
Vivienne: not a family member, but your extremly strict (and elegant) teacher who terrifies you but does so because she wants you to use your potential (and ends up being your favourite teacher once you quit school)
Solas: distant uncle nobody really knows/likes who ends up stepping up in times of need and just wants you to be educated.
Cassandra: the Inquisitor's mother. She is jsut so reliable.
