Hello there.

I am missing just two kinds of achievements in ME 1; those regarding having a single squad mate being with you for a high percentage of the game, and finishing the game in the two hardest settings.

These will demand at least 2 playthroughs, due to the number of squad mates still missing (tali, garrus, wrex and liara), and because the game, at least on Xbox, forces me to scale the difficulty setting up one setting a time; I can't jump ahead and set the game for maximum.

So, these are my questions:

Can I get the achievements of squad mates by doing merely the main missions? I ask this because I had done multiple playthroughs already, and don't want to have to do the many, many, side missions. What is the minimal number of side missions that I have to do to get the achievement? Is it a percentage of the total of missions, or a percentage of the missions you did (specially for companions that you get later)?

Same question with difficulty settings. Will it count if I simply get a playthrough and speed through the main missions? Maybe if I combine the two options (I can start a new game plus to start with all my gear so I don't have to farm for equipment or xp), I can get them relatively fast and without much hassle; but this also begs the question of what can I get away with in the highest settings; if I am choosing teammates only for the achievement, not to have a balanced array of offensive and defensive options, will this make a insanity playthrough unfeaseable?

Last and least, I don't remember if there is a way to re-spec my characther in me1. Is there? maybe I could look up a few builds.

Regards :).

For the difficulty achievements the number of side missions does not matter, you can do only the main quests if you wish.

For the companion achievements you do have to do a significant number of side missions as well. Liara is particularly tricky, make a beeline to Therum and don't do any side quests in the Citadel until after you have her. Even then I unlocked her cheevo only on Ilos.

No, you cannot re-spec in ME1.

And as CavalierToast already said, Liara is the hardest. With her I started a couple of side missions on the Citadel, but didn't finish them until I got her. It took me until I believe Virmire to get her achievement. Or maybe Ilos as well.

I got these numbers from a PS3 trophy site, and I'm not sure how accurate they are (I tend to do almost all side missions anyway so I didn't keep check really), but you will have a general approach number that seems quite valid :)

45 for Wrex
50 for Garrus
45 for Tali
50 for Liara

That is what I feared.

I think I'll give the whole thing up, than. I don't want to have to go through all the missions I done so many times, twice no less (never cared for achievements much, so I never pursued this before) and if it's not to get a platinum, trying for the higher difficulties becomes moot.

I'm doing a insanity playthrough on me2 just for the difficulty setting, and it's just that - a single, focused playthrough. Thought I could perhaps platinum the series, but I feel I won't have the stamina...

Regards :).

EDIT: strategy wise, seems the easier and faster path would be to separate the companions playthrough from the difficulty playthrough; breeze through every side mission on easy and don't even finish the game, just get the achievements. Than do focused playthroughs for the difficult settings, choosing the squad mates based on their strength. Feasible, but the companions playthroughs would be a bore...

Maybe just an idea. Go for it in a New Game+, with this you can just mow down everything from the beginning  Or you know, maybe play one mission every day, most of them are short, and if you have a little bit of time to kill do one, then play or do something else.

I also started out with "yeah, I'll try Insanity once to get the trophies", and I ended up having so much fun (well, there was a lot of cursing too :D) with it that I don't play anything else now anymore because I want to experience all classes on this difficulty. ME2 is the hardest, it was a big challenge for me, but learning more about the combat and learning how to approach these enemy types was great for me.

Maybe this will happen to you too, but in any case, good luck with whatever you do.

Some tips:
-Getting every "companion" achievement will take at least three playtroughs, since it's not possible to accomplish three companions achievements in a single playthrough.
-You can also get the difficulty achievements on a New Game +, provided that you change the difficulty setting as soon as possible.
-It's not necessary to complete the game to get the companion achievement: when the percentage of missions is completed, the achievement will immediately be flagged.
-Be aware that Liara's achievement is the most difficult to complete, and you'll have a hard time recruiting her with a fresh (Level 1) character, especially on Insanity. Either use a New Game + character or a low difficulty.
-You may also want to choose a class that is an appropriate companion to the two characters you're trying to complete the achivement for. For example, a Soldier would be a bad class if the companions are, say, Wrex and Ashley.
-Getting Wrex's achievement will give you a permanent +1 health regeneration per second that will be really useful when trying to complete the game on harder difficulties.

You can't respec, but you can just use the console to give you as many TPs as you need.

Where are acheivements saved? Just in career files?  I think I still don't have all of them...

I have done 20+ playthroughs, but I've never had all the achievements because I like to change my squad every couple of missions.

Well seeing as the squad achievements are really buggy, I'm probably going to cheat add them via the console.  I've done entire playthroughs with Tali and still don't have her achievement.
