After watching both trailers for like the hundredth time and in reverse order... It seems as if when we get our hands on this game, it will start us already completing the journey to Andromeda.

What do you all think?

I agree. It appears that the ship has already started its' journey. I really don't think we'll have stories from their journey unless they do stories while on our way out of the milky way (which I doubt) or unless they do stories while in inter-galatic space. Unless they are writing stories about on ship conflict and mechanical failures while in the emptiness of inter-galatic space to provide confilict (which sounds dull), the stories will have to be set in Andromeda to be interesting. We need new environments and enemies for the game to be any good.

I think this is a good time to jump start Andromeda by doing a novel about how this massive ship and journey came together. And something similar to the "homeworlds" comics, where we can learn a bit about the companions, during their time on the journey to Andromeda. I'd totally buy the books/comics.

A long, long, time ago, in a galaxy far, far away...

Anyways, to answer your question my Jamaican friend, I want to say. If they're in cryo-tubes (like we've seen on the SR2 Normandy), then I'd say... Cryo-pod opens, Ryder slowly wakes, looks in a mirror where you proceed to create their looks. Afterwards, they turn to look out a window and see the Andromeda galaxy for the first time.

Reminds me too much of Halo 1 (I believe that's how Halo 1 started). Without the CC though. I hope it's something more original than that.

That's a good idea. Never read any of the ME or DA books and comics as I'm leery of the writing quality in the books and dislike the art style for the comics. But, for those that enjoy it, I hope you get books and comics! I just hope any media produced doesn't impact the game too much. In DAI, the book 'The Masked Empire' impacted the main questline at the Winter Palace too much. I wasn't familiar with any of the characters or their history and much was lost on me.

Trailers generally shoot for feel over accurate plot details, and we're a long way from release.

That said BioWare has been big on jump starting their stories since Origins so, it seems likely to me we'll start running.

Yes. I think it starts 100s of years after the journey is complete.

Only played Halo once, so I really don't remember. But that was my 2 cents.

Never assumed it would start anywhere else.

For all we know Ryder wasn't even born yet when the ship left the Milky Way.

Little Ryder, first child born in Andromeda?
Nah. If it's the generations route it's probably child of child of child of...

I don't know. I'd like a short prologue to explain the extent of the Pathfinder Project prior to the journey, then jump ahead X years for the journey and start us in the CC.

Spoiler
With this I've been wondering if Cryosleep will even be a thing. Sure it could be something else, but even though it's a long journey, some people will have kids, grow old and die before the journey is complete. Hence the picture in the new trailer?

OK, more speculation:

The ARKCON / Pathfinder patch seems to support the Ark theory. Add the large spaceship in the photo from "teaser # 2" + Femshep's monologue and the "long after the events of the Milky Way"... all support the arrival of the Ark in the Cluster. To cement this view, the leaked poll tells of  the importance of making the right/correct decision at the beginning of the game (ie: like colonizing a rich resource world) as it will effect the game down the road.

To summarize:

1. The game opens up with us arriving in the Cluster

2. First order of business is finding a resource rich system for our main colony

3. Ryder is probably the name of our PC.

What we don't know:

1. Length of the journey from MW to A.

2. Whether the Ark is a generation ship or the colonists were put in stasis to be awakened on arrival.

3. The number of races from the MW.  My view? Krogan, Asari and Salarian + Humans

As this is a human story, the humans play a more important role. Exploration, then, is key at the begiining of the game.

I suspect we wil start already there, then get assigned to a scouting ship sent out to explore the cluster.

Maybe, the promising thing is that they're somewhat addressing the journey aspect but i'm sure 99% of this game will be in Andromeda either way.

Isn't Cyrosleep a thing in the Mass Effect Universe, I don't see why it wouldn't be, I mean the Protheans did it and were very successful at it until Vigil cut off the life support. I think it would be amazing for it to start off on us landing on Andromeda, it would certainly have that fantastic feel of stepping out onto a new alien planet something I haven't felt anyone get right since Mass Effect 1 and Halo: CE.

Will we be the new Quarians wandering the galaxy in search of resources and a new home? Will the locals dislike us and fear our entry into their systems as we scavenge for resources like a plague of locusts?

I never doubted we would. I'm curious to know how long after the journey starts does the game begin.

20 years?
50 years?
100 years?

It will start after we arrive, some time between 200 and 500 years after departure.

How long after arrival would be interesting to know.

I don't think it's going to take anymore than 200 years, I'd say 50-150. I'm sure with new tech and "space magic," it would cut the journey down even sooner.

Yeah. But the pilot had a list of planets ready to look at. The ship seemed to be scanning for some time
They've probably been there for at least 50 years.

200 years is the top speed for Reapers, I doubt they would go faster than that.

Besides, what reason could they have to do that?  Either way, we'll probably be in a stasis pod the whole trip and wake up on the other side never to contact the Milk Way ever again.

ME1 started at a point with humanity using the relays, after they've encountered aliens and made strides in integrating with galactic society. Those are significant hurdles that were relegated to offscreen back-story and secondhand exposition. The trip to Andromeda will probably, unfortunately, suffer the same fate, since it's much more visually interesting and engaging as an actual videogame to quickly get to a narrative place where we're pewpewing and navigating through cool-looking locations.

The journey from the Milky Way to Andromeda would probably make for an interesting novel, or an interesting Telltale-style interactive novel. Not so much a traditional Mass Effect game.
