I think the intro will take place in the Milky Way immediately before the ship sets off. There may be a tutorial part set on the ship during transit (think of a more extended version of the start of ME1, where you could explore and talk to crew pre-Eden Prime) but the meat of the game will start in Andromeda.
Trailer Suggest We Start in Andromeda?

Never assumed it would start anywhere else.
For all we know Ryder wasn't even born yet when the ship left the Milky Way.
This. Not just storywise but most importantly, GAMEPLAYwise it doesn't make sense to start anywhere elase than already in Andromeda, even better if some time after arrival and basic colonies/structures established. Unless of course they would rather do insufferably long tutorial level about living on the Ark, then arriving, then settling first colony. Many games unfortunately fell into this trap (Assassin's Creed 3's eight hours tutorial anyone?). With established setting we can quickly get into actual main story and planetary Mako exploration.
Little Ryder, first child born in Andromeda?
Nah. If it's the generations route it's probably child of child of child of...
I dont think generations route is in cards at all. Cryo freeing for the journey with occasional maintenance checks or whatever. At least for majority of ark population. It's just way easier

Along, long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away...... idk come up with something peeple, I ran out of jokes T-T
Anyways, to answer your question my Jamaican friend, I want to say. If they're in cryo-tubes (like we've seen on the SR2 Normandy), then I'd say... Cryo-pod opens, Ryder slowly wakes, looks in a mirror where you proceed to create their looks. Afterwards, they turn to look out a window and see the Andromeda galaxy for the first time.
That sounds pretty good, actually. Kinda reminds me of the beginning of Aliens. ![]()

I'd be fine with starting in Andromeda. Extended prologues in games are one of those things that tend to sound better than they actually are.

After watching both trailers for like the hundredth time and in reverse order... It seems as if when we get our hands on this game, it will start us already completing the journey to Andromeda.
What do you all think?
It is what I expected, honestly.

I'd rather start in Andromeda. Any before we get there is best suited for a movie, book, or comic.

I suspect that we will probably start the game upon immediate arrival in Andromeda or shortly before.
Starting it after, when there is an established Milky Way influence within Andromeda would definitely detract from any epic exploration themes such as first contact or exploring the first world in a brand new galaxy, you know?
So I think a pre-Andromeda start is likely.

I thought this was a given, to be honest.

I think the game will start off with a semi-colonised Andromeda in the starting cluster, coming into no contact with Andromeda aliens until the protagonist begins exploring deeper into the new cluster. Until eventually finding a form of alien ruins that leads into first extra-galactic contact with the native species. A bit like humanity in the Milky Way coming into first contact with the Turians.

I think any of that depends on how we are travelling between galaxies. I think they will avoid the possible issues with a multi-generational ship by going with a cryonics method for it at least to me has less possible issues and could be used to explain limited evolution in technology if a great amount of time has passed. Another theory I have is that they went through the Alpha relay before Shepard blew it up and it was the only relay that connected us outside the Milky Way.
Either way I think an interesting use of the travel time could be used as a tutorial, which would make more sense to me then landing on a new planet and figuring out how things work.

I think being woken up from cryo will serve as the tutorial, think Halo, but maybe with more explanation before the shooting. They don't need to wake everyone up at the same time, so maybe they've already established themselves a bit by the time we awake. Plenty of excuse for the main character to ask questions about mundane things without looking like an idiot too.

My guess is that we have just arrived in Andromeda at start of ME:A. Shepard's message was sth that set us off to our journey.

I think we will probably start when we get to Andromeda by waking up from stasis. Have us be in the stasis pod for the CC portion, then when we confirm the pod opens to let us out.

Agreed, honestly.
It wouldn't be as big of an impact (assuming the relay that took us to Andromeda) to see the relay destroyed if we were born in Andromeda anyway.

I assume the character creation will be justified in universe as us coming out of cryo or something, and waking up will probably be the first thing we see.

I believe we''ll start in Andromeda. Or maybe the game will start showing the ship leaving the Milky Way with the main character being put in a stasis pod for the journey. Once the ship arrives in Andromeda, the player takes control of the main character after he/she gets out of the pod

I had always envisioned the game beginning by either seeing us board the ship, or us on our way there. If it doesn't, I'm willing to bet that we'll see a prequel novel or comic series showing this.

I figured it would be a given we'd start the game in Andromeda, & as already suggested by several folk we'll get to character creation when we wake from cryo, as for the rest I figured it would be like ME2 when you wake on the station after being resurrected by Cerberus, as you move around the Ark for the first hour or so the Codex entries will flood in filling in the back story of leaving the Milky Way, the ship your on, how long the journey has taken, the races your with yadda yadda.

As much as I would want the game to effectively start as soon as we arrive in Andromeda, I have a feeling it might be set possibly an entire generation or more after we do. If the game is about establishing multiple new colonies, then you couldn't do so until a significant industrial base has already been established. If you just turn up it wouldn't make sense to establish multiple colonies until you need to expand. To do otherwise would be a terribly inefficient waste of resources.
Something that could be quite cool would be to play a tutorial set as soon as you arrive. You would scout out the first planet, establish colony one, then go off and explore some other worlds. Something important would happen that would tie into the main story later just as the tutorial finishes. In chapter 1 you would be playing a different character years into the future.

SO which would you guys prefer.
The game starts right when get to Andromeda, maybe a few months after? Or a few years? Maybe like 10-20?
