It's great that they made an introduction, but......

At first it appeared to me lame that all of a sudden we get Cmdr. Shepard talking about the exploration and the human nature and need for it, just to introduce the new ME:A. I mean, I played all of the Mass Effect series and there was not a slightest mention of what she was saying in the teaser. How the hell could that be? If this was supposed to happen, why there was not a word about the expedition in the previous Mass Effect games? Not even in the Citadel archives. So, I thought here goes another money making lame idea to sell the next Mass Effect franchise.

Don't get me wrong I think it's great and I can't wait for it to be released, but this??? Seriously??? Unless.......

The game takes place, or should I say, the launch takes place way before the Reaper attack. How can anyone worry about the human need for exploration while facing extinction? Therefore I think that the actual time of the game takes place in a paralel timeline. How could you meet some of the original characters anyway.

So to sum up, I vote that the ship took off many years before the original trilogy and was simply forgotten during the Reaper war rush.

It happened because the ME3 endings are literally impossible to work with without making one choice canon, with Bioware seemingly winging it as they go along.

You're over thinking things. It's probably just symbolic.

It's exactly what I thought they would do though. We are sent in mission to explore new galaxy before ME3 endings. Though it seems like we left even before Reaper threath was a thing.

Because exploration can prevent extinction?

This is true even in the trilogy. Without human space exploration, our cycle loses.

Why not? Cause you disagree with it? I think the OP brings up a valid point.

There were already multiple threads that this could have been posted in. A new thread for something that was already being discussed is just crapping up the forum.

Plan A: The Crucible

Plan B: Colonising Andromeda to ensure the continuity of civilisation and organic life.

It's possible that the Andromeda project wasn't even done by the same people who built the Crucible. The asari councilor mentions activating contingency plans after the fall of Thessia. Maybe it's something the Council races built for a rainy day after the rachni wars/krogan rebellions/geth uprising/whatever.
