In each of the former games, the main character has been different: Hero of Ferelden, Hawke and Inquisitor. I don't see a need for DA4 to change that and keep on with the Inquisitor. I do like NPCs like Leliana and Morrigan continuing through the threads of games, though and I think Solas is headed in the same direction.

i dont see playing inquistor again its cleary stated at end of tresspasser that the Inquistor's adventure days are done. This i belive to set up a new hero in da4...
I don't see the problem. My current Inquisitor (obviously Elvhen and female) is romancing him. I want to explore how this goes in Trespasser. Am I attracted to Solas? No, he's not the sort I would find companionable. But the whole point of RPG is to be who we are not.
My friend and I have actually been working on our 'fantasy' game set before/during Andraste. It's really interesting because we don't really know that much about Thedas during this period, so it's a really easy time to insert a new story into. Ergo I'd love to see a story set in/around Andraste times.
I would not mind playing a distant past game, but first I want to see the current plotlines resolved. Will Solas's plan go through, whether we stop him or not? Will we choose to bring back all the magic, or quell it forever, crushing the wonders that once were? What will become of the elven uprisings? Will the qunari regroup and make another strike?
There are too many questions to be answered for Future-Thedas, for me to want to go into Past-Thedas, just yet. And I suspect that whatever the final game brings (one or two more games left, I think I've heard the devs say is the last one they have plot for), it's going to either leave us with nowhere to move forward to, or the Dragon Age will be over and we'll move on to the next age. Griffon Age, anyone? I'd totally go for Griffon Age, if it meant I could travel Thedas on the back of a griffon...
To me, the biggest future question is what happens after the seventh blight.

You can't end the Inquisitor's story with her screaming "I'm going to kill/save you Solas"! We want to actually see that!
In all of the conversations above, why do we forget Morrigan and her child? Somewhere that has to play into the story line. AND, if I remember correctly, Morrigan was taking Kirkwall hero into mirror. Wasn't Cassandra looking for the hero's from prior games. Hence the questioning of Varic? Will all the hero's be brought together in a show down wit Solas? As one person mentioned above, a lot of plot lines need to be resolved before moving to something completely different.
For Kieran, I think the reason is that by the end of DAI, all endings are that he either doesn't exist or is no longer the OGB. "No more dreams."
As for Morrigan herself, I hope she continues on as I said above. I really think there was a missed opportunity during Wicked Eyes and Wicked Hearts for her and Leliana to trade some pointed remarks. Perhaps about buying shoes.

If you are tired of the universe, stop buying the games. On the other hand, suggesting that they stop means that everyone who isn't tired of the universe loses out.
Nah, i'd prefer for a new character that becomes main character.
And if you want it so badly, why don't put your "heroes" on the past games as your companion (including their respective romance)
