Seems there has been quite a few leaks already which is not surprising considering how many early review copies they have been throwing around to every Tom, Dick and Harry with a mildly popular youtube channel, also more than a few stores breaking the street date as well. Seems to be quite a few negative impressions ranging from gripes about framerate to the sub par graphics (something that was evident from the initial reveal) and horrible animations as well as a number of weird glitches and AI quirks, all in all I would say it is par for the course for a Bethesda game so I do have to wonder with so many other games going open world and doing things far better are people finally seeing Bethesda games for what they are?

 

Also it seems the ending has been revealed, if I actually had faith in Bethesda's storytelling ability I might have taken further precautions to avoid spoiling it, but since I don't I just went ahead and peeked, kind of regret it as it sounds like an interesting twist but I am sure Beth will **** up the presentation somehow so I don't feel too bad about it.

 

Thing I am most interested in is the settlements but unfortunately most of the leaks I have read have been pretty vague on the topic.

 

Anyway with the game less than a day away I am sure more will be revealed so what can Bioware and ME:A learn from Fallout 4?

Joking (somewhat) aside, nothing. The ME:A is already heavy into development, most things will be pretty much locked up, aside from minor changes.

Hopefully they already learned their lesson chasing after Bethesda with DAI resulting in a pretty lackluster game.  If they return to focus on storytelling with in depth characters and a satisfying conclusion (see DAO and ME2) it should be fine.  If they try to cram in a bunch of FO4 successful innovations in the last year they'll repeat the mistakes of DAI.

I agree, but I don't think they imitated Bethesda well either. Which makes it even more sad.

Oddly i actually REALLY enjoyed DA:I.

 

I would dare say more so than i did DA:O.

 

But everyone is different eh?  But as an aside I tend to not enjoy MOST Bethesda games...Granted i AM a fan of Fallout ( 1 and 2 mainly, Also Wasteland 2) and i will get 4 because 3 was enjoyable.

Well, I think it fails more for the traditional Bioware fan who was originally attracted to their games because of their focused narratives using cinematic cutscenes.  DAI deviated from that mold by loading it up with "exploration" which resulted in loss of focus in the story...nevermind a very anticlimactic ending.  Much of the game is spent wandering aimlessly collecting junk and doing sidequests without any really motivation.  Ultimately I did enjoy the game and got my money's worth, but where it really fails for me is on replayability.  It's the first Bioware game that I've reached the point I have no interest starting a new game.  Part of that is CDPR's fault.  They did such a comparatively good job on the open world without sacrificing the narrative.  I'm sure there are many who really love DAI, but for me it fell far short of expectations and will be one of the few Bioware games that fails to survive the test of time.

Bethesda's strong points are pretty much opposite to Bioware's. Bethesda has usually quite weak story and characters, when Bioware usually does those well. In other hand Bethesda does open world well. However last time when Bioware tried to bring bit of Bethesda in their game it didn''t work out that well. It went against Bioware's strong points. I don't know if bringing bit Fallout to ME would work any better than bringing bit Skyrim to DAI worked.

Not really, they are both different companies and they do there own thing.

 

Despite the high points in Bethesda games such as Elder Scrolls and Fallout they do have some glaring negatives such as massive in game bugs (that the modding community are normally left to fix), massive issues with the physics engine, too many NPC's that sound identical to each other, and cut and paste stories (the base premise is identical).

They are very different beasts, but sure there could be things to learn from eachother. 

 

When I play left 4 dead, I'm not going for the same thing, as when I play kerbal space program. 

 

Same goes for mass effect games vs. fallout games.

From what I have been hearing it's mostly some technical issues that will hopefully be fixed with a day 1 patch (sigh.....), un-needed streamlining for the casual gamer, and I have heard mixed things about the story and ending.

So basically, nothing unexpected at all if you've been playing Bethesda games since, say, Morrowind.

Worst thing I've heard is the graphics aren't super shiny, but since I'm playing it on XOne, it doesn't really matter, I suppose

What I hope is that seeing that Bethesda tried to emulate some of Bioware's stuff this will give Bioware enough confidence in their own model to stop trying emulating everything around and ending up doing neither very well.

I know we all pull from our shared experience to create new things... but, I'd prefer Bioware go their own way and not be influenced by anything else. Even if the game winds up a steaming pile of poo, at least it's their own.

The graphics probably shouldn't be super shiny out of the box. Remember, Bethesda released hi-res textures for Skyrim after the main game came out, and modders improved them further.

Bethesda's commitment to using their own engine, for which they can support mod tools, is laudable. That they're willing to sacrifice graphics to make thay work is even more so.

It probably can't have as much issues as DAI has though.

What I would want ME:A to learn from would be mostly DAI.. learn what new things worked (crafting and character creator I guess) and what didn't.

DAI, BioWare's best game of the 21st century, and one of only two genuinely good BioWare titles since KotOR.

I would not worry too much about it, if you enjoyed previous Bethesda games then I don't see why you wont enjoy this one as nothing really seems to have changed all that much, unless of course your standards have improved and the fog has been removed from your eyes, Fallout 4 looks to be what Bethesda games have always been.

 

It is getting high scores so far but that is kind of meaningless since it was always going to get high scores regardless of it's quality as a matter of self preservation on the reviewer's part.

I remember hearing rumours that Fallout 4 was originally supposed to be male only (until you complete the game and it allows you to switch to female), that cinematic makes me wonder if that truly was the plan as it does seem based around the idea that you will be playing the male.
