Usually if all 12 are loyal, the only deaths that would happen is if a squadmate is assigned something that he/she is not qualified for.

 

Where it gets tricky is if you have a few that aren't loyal.

Kasumi can be used for the vents and Jacob can be used for the fireteam leader, as well if I'm not mistaken.

That's right

 

Kasumi, Legion and Tali for the vent

Garrus, Jacob and Miranda for fire team leader

Samara and Jack for the barrier

But since Mordin's substitute is one of the best characters in ME3, I suggest you let the professor die give it a try.

He is a good character. I've  had Padok Wiks live after the cure has been sabotaged.
