I came across this on another forum today and I figure it's worth its own thread. It's a speculative timeline that attempts to link Andromeda to the events of the main trilogy (most notably ME3). Click the spoiler tag to reveal:

Spoiler

Obviously, it isn't by me. I have no idea where it was originated (Reddit?) or how recent it is. Nevertheless, I'd be totally okay if the real timeline turned out the same way.

Agreed. I like this timeline theory a lot. It works fine for me that the first inkling we (as players) get about ARKCON is during that last conversation with Councilor Tevos. One idea I had was that the evacuation began shortly after the reapers moved the Citadel and focused their attention on Earth. Communication wasn't severed with the evacuees until it was believed the beam run failed.

I've seen that chart before. I don't agree that the ship leaves during ME3. I believe it leaves before the events of ME3.

The point is the ship acts as a contingency plan in case the Reapers are victorious. "Continuity of civilization", as the asari councilor puts it. Whether it leaves before or during ME3 is inconsequential, although I think it would make more sense if it left during ME3, as the timeline suggests.

The latest teaser indicates that the Ark might have launched from Earth just Before the Reapers arrived... Maybe that was their contingency. Now we know what the Alliance spent their Resources on Before the attack rather than growing the fleet and military forces.

The people leaving might not even have been told abotu the Reapers, least not initially... They were just told they would be "Explorers"....

Would a larger fleet and more troops have made a difference -- other than not having back-up survival plan?

Honestly, whether the ark leaves before or during ME3 is the irrelevant point to me. The most important thing is that it makes FAR more sense to put your resources into an ark to escape the Reapers, rather than try to fight them where every civilization for the past two billion years tried and failed to do so. It would be the epitome of arrogance to think this time we would be victorious, even after delaying them twice. It just delays the inevitable.

And, honestly, it almost does make more sense for it to leave before ME3 because that was before the discovery of the Crucible. Before the Crucible, there would be exactly ZERO reason to think that you could ever win against the Reapers conventionally.

In fact, you would be stupid to even try. The smart thing would be to run and hide, absolutely.

The kicker is you are only saving a tiny fraction, of a tiny fraction, of the population if you successfully run away. Having a contingency is all well and good but you would be absolutely stupid to not try and fight even if the odds were minuscule.

And the simple fact is that the council races did not acknowledge the reaper threat before ME3. If they had you would have seen a massive surge in the production of warships after the events of ME1. They preferred to bury their heads in the sand and pretend it wasn't happening.

I do like the ideas in this timeline. It doesn't contradict any of the ME1-3 events and it crucially answers a few questions about why they don't simply turn around or why they can't come back later. It would probably want to be elaborated on. The "ark" wouldn't have to be destroyed, but the mechanism that allows the travel would need to. I do have issues allowing this amount of technology so it needs to be erased which it sort of does here.

I think it leaves during Shep's first death. You know, when the entire galaxy and Alliance just sat on their hands for 2 years because "Shepard is gone."

Well, I believe that Ark was planned for a long time in case of emergency like this, and people who were told to join this expedition, they were rather told that they are going to explore or colonize, rather than to be told, that they are going to be a last hope for several species.

Fist point is, that council was silent about this whole program and it was prepared in secrecy.

The second point is, that whatever  these who were in arc believed is irrelevant, they were simply told some story to not spread a panic.

And third and last point is, if Reapers or Cerberus would have found out about some contingency plan, they would maybe follow ARC to the other galaxy.

No. The reapers win by numbers alone.

The only thing with having more ships, depending on how many, is maybe a few more reapers are destroyed before the crucible fires its bag of goodies all over the galaxy

Exactly.

Besides, taking this timeline as accepted, which, for the purpose of the discussion, I am going to do, then the Alliance isn't doing this alone. Just like the Normandy, ARKCON would appear to involve other species, and, just like the Normandy, shows the Alliance's willingness to invest heavily in experimental technology/science ...even if not everyone likes it. (See: Rear Adm. Mikhaelovich).

I like the timeline, excepting that it seems clear the Ark is a single large ship and there is no wormhole going by the teaser.  But I think they would have departed in advance of the final battle.  Before or after the start of the invasion doesn't particularly matter to me though I think the latter makes more sense.  They wouldn't send those people off until it became apparent just how bad the situation was.

Honest (non-sarcastic/non-snarky) question: Why do you think that?

I don't think we can take anything from the teaser besides the ship itself and the easter egg with the possible name of the protagonist. At this time, everything else is pure conjecture with little (or none) basis.

I like that theory too but for the fact that Liara is involved. I´m sure that Liara would have told Shepard about the project especially if she is your LI.

If at all I suppose this is planned and executed by the Citadel Council.

I believe that too. I don't think the Reapers would have let a ship squeeze through their defenses

Curious here... how do you figure the latest teaser *indicates* the Ark would have launched before the Reapers arrived? I didn't see anything in the teaser that *indicates* that...

Ummm... what if it was in fact that "...the council races did not publicly acknowledge the reaper threat before ME3." It would makes sense that they would take it seriously and in fact prepare for contingency plans while publicly denying the threat in an effort to avoid mass panic...

Except that saving a tiny portion of the population = saving the entire species. Fighting is fine, since it is unrealistic to save every member of a species, but lives ultimately dont matter in the grand scheme of things - only extinction.

Which is a viewpoint that our species currently lacks, by the way.

I'm still of the opinion that the Ark left after the events of ME3, and that there's been a few hundred years since ME3.

Lives do matter, but saving some is better than putting all your eggs in one basket.
