If I get the extended cut DLC will I still need to do the multiplayer to get optimal EMS? I played ME3 years ago and even with the extended cut I still played multiplayer just to be safe.

No, you don't need MP anymore. EC lowers your needed EMS to around 3200.

If you do want to increase your Galactic Readiness then you don't need multiplayer. Just use the N7HQ http://social.biowar.../galaxy_at_war/.

I use it once, maybe twice, a day for one hour missions. My Galactic readiness stays stable around 80%.

The extended cut lowered the requirements for the breath scene. The player needs 3100 ems

If a player chooses to do a default playthrough with the extended cut and not play any of the dlc's, there isn't enough ems to get 3100. The most that a player might get is about 2970. This is if your galactic readiness is at 50%. To get the breath scene, the player needs to 'save' Anderson. He gives 200 war assets if that happens. If you decide to let TIM shoot Anderson, the player will lose 100 war assets.

Of course if the dlc's are completed, 3100 isn't too hard to get. Having a save imported from ME2 makes it easier as well to get 3100 ems.
