Im about to start my last playthrough as a knight enchanter, and i'd like to use this. however i havent tried it yet and cant tell if its just a novelty or what. any feedback on this would be appreciated.

I would consider it to be a novelty item.

 

For one, you lose the ability to do ranged attacks with your basic attack, since the staff animation is replaced by the 2h sword animation. 

 

Also, your single target dps will be lower, because the blade of tidarion has the same base damage as staves, but the dps per base damage of the 2h sword animation is lower than the dps per base damage of the staff animation. However, the 2h sword animation does AOE damage, so if there are lots of enemies clustered, it is possible to do more damage with your basic attack animation.

It's fun on a second playthrough after getting the golden Nug, for a while but, soon staves will out do it, even for a KE, so more novelty and low to mid level than really useful.

Hitting multiple enemies can help charge spirit blade faster.

TIdarion isn't as good as the very best staff, but its good enough and fun for a knight enchanter.

For me it was a lot of fun to use this blade. In my opinion KE should be always in front lines anyways. And you can get the blade very early from one of the war table operations. Stat wise blade isn't weak at all. I'v change it to Encore much lately.

Yeah, certainly if you're not Golden Nugging then it'll be a good while before you get something that's really better.

I agree. I would use what is fun and stylish. The gameplay isn't so demanding that optimality is required. If this is your second play through, the early game is a good opportunity to use "fun" gear, since pretty much any craftable gear will be overpowered at the early game.

 

For me, look and style is the most important factor for at least half of my party. However, I can't personally advocate for the blade of tildarion in terms of style, since the placement at the back of your character looks really awkward when moving. Also, they really should've given this weapon a speed-up in animation speed. Something about swinging a slowly moving torch just looks awkward.

Totally true. Big dissapointment. Still, its the only way to get melee moveset for а mage. Except spirit blade ofc.
