You can purchase the Mass Effect novels in the store on the Citadel.....which is a great little nod, but are the actual novels included? Figured no given copyright issues, but how cool would that be,,,,,

Yeah, it would have been pretty cool, but at least they get a major mention in the very first colony investigation when you meet up with Tali.
