I'm über excited about Andromeda, and for once have chosen to be optimistic about something, a departure from my normal bent toward realistic/pessimistic expectations. If 50% of what's "leaked" above is true, it sounds like a great start imo. Having said that...

I'm staying away from the single player for a while to start. I'm going to get a heavy, heavy, potentially lethal size dosage of the MP before I venture into 1-man's land. The campaign will likely be great, the universe expanded, the side-missions aplenty, all of which is great. But for me, I was never one of the ones that felt like SP was what made this game; for me, it's quite the opposite. If it weren't for MP, I'd have played through a time or two and then likely placed the disc in it's plastic casket, never to be seen or heard from again. MP is what made this game truly alluring and what continues to bring me back over newly-released games.

And that is exactly the fallacy of people who complain about a game being "too short" and "4-6 hours long".  Granted there have been games with longer single-player campaigns, but whether it is 4 or 20, you play it once and never again, whereas the multiplayer can see 1000 hours or more.

IMO the single player is basically there to introduce you to the game, its mechanics, and its setting, but the real bulk of the game is the multiplayer component.  In this internet age, that is how it should be.  I will temper this by saying single player games should not be phased out of existence, but rather that a short campaign is permissible so long as the multiplayer delivers months or even years of entertainment value.

I certainly have not clocked 2000+ hours of ME3 over 2 ports because of the single player story.

Oh, and Biower are being complete wussbags and asspulling us to an entirely different galaxy, something that wasn't even remotely possible given the technology of the series in the first 3 games. All because too many people QQed about the ending and "muh choices" or whatever.

Posts like this are the reason Halo, MGS, Mass Effect, and many other series which had great stories **** the bed because some folks just don't look at things from a logical or literary standpoint. No gimmicks here, just real talk.

Aside from that, the post contains some good stuff that gets me excited. I just hope it delivers and that there are no dipshits leaking the story elements. Then again, that didn't stop Kojima from burning the Metal Gear Saga to the ground with the story of Jamoke Snake and the pointless arc of not-so-vengeance.

MGS was always anime inspired nonsense. Cyborg ninjas with swords who precognitively block machine gun bullets, psychic mind reading mumbo jumbo, Russian Cowboys with magic bullet riccochet powers, and snipers talking to animals were all innovations of the very first game. The all knowing, NWO illuminati conspiracy crap fits into that series like a glove. It never made any sort of sense, and it wasn't ever supposed to.

Halo is fine, and if anything it's better than it started. It has gone from "faceless human Übermensch kills monolithic faction of aleins and doesn't afraid of anything" to the interplay we have now between Humanity, warring Covenant factions, Forerunners and Artificial Intelligences. Oh, and the whole "humans are speshul" premise (i.e. that the Humans were actually the Forerunners) was rightfully thrown out of the airlock with the Reclaimer trilogy.

ME3's ending was fine from a logical and literary standpoint. People just cried because they erroneously thought the series was about choices instead of cycles, when choices were merely the mechanic used to convey the narrative. Or they cried because they wanted an unequivocally happy ending where the Reapers blow up and everyone holds hands around their burning hulls singing Kumbayah, which would really have been illogical given the atmosphere and themes presented.

Here's a well thought out critical perspective on the ending from a literary standpoint, with a disarmingly comedic tone: http://birthmoviesde...f-mass-effect-3

The ME3 ending sucked ass. It's really that simple, no need to write an article about it :P

I used to read, and write, a lot of fiction back in my day.  Mass Effect 3 ending makes The Phantom Menace look like a goddamned literary masterpiece

I just see a lot of crying. The first one fails categorically for attempting to go against the Catalyst's logic, which is simply an indisputable fact of the universe. The he cries about some moral outrage nonsense and having to kill the toasters to get his "freedom" or whatever. Typical weak willed babby who completely missed the point of the game he was playing.

It wasn't that bad, or at least if you don't pick the wrong one it isn't. I kinda wish Control didn't involve a stupid brain upload and Synthesis didn't exist as a concept at all but w/e, I'll just keep shooting the tube.

Yeah I don't really mind the three options. I just ignore the blue and green one, as you said.

What really, reaaaaaalllyyy irks me, is the goddamned star brat.

The ending wouldn't have been nearly half as bad if it stopped at "I'm proud of you". Still not great, but acceptable. But nope, they had to make us endure all that spacemagicky bullshit. Gawd.

I so wish I had to shoot the brat to get the destroy ending. Would have made it a lot better already.

I have maintained that there were 3 possibilites that would have been better than what was presented:

1 - Anderson: "You did good, kid."  They blow up the Citadel, and themselves, and the Relays, and the Reapers, and the Geth, and EDI, and pretty much blast the galaxy into the Stone Age, free from technological bullshit, and the curtain closes because the protagonists are now dead and don't know anything that happens afterwards.  Credits roll, The End.

2 - Replace Star Brat with Avina.  CREEEEEPYYYYY!

3 - Illusive Man gives self-righteous speech about the Control Option, PLUGS HIMSELF INTO THE BLUE THING, and becomes HYPER-REAPER-TIM, epic boss battle ensues.

But hindsight is always 20-20 I suppose.
