This is the premise of the game, being advertise much, but as we can see we don't have the option to let the world burn.

We don't have the option to let Corypheus win, or ally with him, support what he want to do.

We don't have the option to become villain in the end like Darth Revan. We don't have the option to join the Dark Side and become the Dark Lord by defeating the previous Dark Lord.

To let the world burn doesn't always means to destroy it, Phoenix born from ashes, there should be an option to let Phoenix born from ashes.

Saving the world doesn't always a good thing, do we want to save the old corrupted world, or we want to change it by let the old world burn?

But this game is nothing about that, the story is linear, there is no choice, are all Dragon Age francise will be like this? Since DA:O we don't actually have a choice in the end game, we always defeat the boss as a "good" guy/girl.

Not directly no. Only thing close was the DLC: Darkspawn Chronicles. But that has no bearing on the real story. You could only run around and be an evil Warden. Nothing though siding with the Archdemon, Howe or Lohgain.

Yeah, that phoenix analogy is pretty stupid. You burn down your house, a new house doesn't rise from the ashes.

I bet the insurance companies would love that.

But we can let the Archdemon soul/essence get into Morrigan womb....

Your refutation of that analogy is stupid. If you destroy all existing civilizations, new ones will arise. The premise of most "let the world burn" ideologies is the idea that the old world is too corrupt to be repaired. Well, the idea that the new one will be better is rather questionable, but wiping the slate clean *will* result in a new start.

With regard to DAI, I think the main plot would've worked better had we had the option to take Corypheus' place. The downside to that would be a narratively invalid world-state since it wouldn't be possible to continue from there, but it would give some meaning to the main story arc.

To let Morrigan perform the Dark Ritual promised a "new world",  "something could happen", or even "the future would be interesting", we don't know it will be good or bad, but the nature is dark, we also struggle with our own selfishness, it was a big thing, heavy thing,

So even though we killed the Archdemon and destroy The Blight, by choosing Dark Ritual give us something, a question, do we choose the right thing, is our victory really a victory, what would happen in the future? So even we hailed as Hero of Ferelden, only we know what really happen and it is a DARK secret

For me it is still acceptable, even though we are not really becoming the Dark Lord of the Sith, Morrigan offer is an alternative for us, an option going into the Dark Side

But it is all washed away now...it is insignifant choice, Kieran is nothing, so even we choose the dark path in DA:O, it is nothing

A ridiculous notion. Nothing springs up from an irradiated wasteland. All Corypheus can bring about is a dead Thedas, picked over by demons and darkspawn.

And take Corypheus' place as what? A tainted magister with delusions of godhood?

That seems like a very shitty achievement, like trying to win a contest for Smelliest Panhandler or Oldest Virgin.

He has nothing the Inquisitor does not already possess, aside from a lyrium-mutated dragon.

Well it have been advertise such, we could save the world or let it burn. I got the impression that we could maintain the world as it were or change it into something else after it burned.

Skyrim atleast have choices, to kill or not to kill Parthunaax, and it effect the ending. Even though the choices are not so great and not really matter, but it does effect the ending we got. We can also choose side with The Empire, Stormcloak or remain neutral. Skyrim is an open world and Bethesda dare to give such choices, and i suspect they don't care about it and giving their middle finger to us in TES:6, but still choices are choices and the game is about the Dragonborn, not about political struggle in Skyrim

Why Bioware don't dare to give us choices?

Typically that kind of choice ends up being noncanon in the next game. That really ruins the choice for me personally. So ya I'm against destroying the world choices. But I really would like to actually have some smaller scale evil choices.

I think you're misreading the advertisement.

Save the world (if you succeed) or let it burn (if you don't succeed and die). Of course you can't die cause you can always reload, but it's just a way of saying.

It's not said that way because it means you can become evil.... Plus who in his/her sane mind would want to rule a world like that?

This reminds me of the Lion King, when Scar becomes king and the world is dark, grey, with no food, nature is dead, etc.

Ehhr, yeah, no thanks!

Plus, you don't really know.. maybe you will be able to side with Solas in the next DA and really destroy the world :P
(Ha! Joking! That will not happen sadly. At least I don't think so  )

You can do that only if you plan a stand-alone game, or, at the most, for the final installation of a serie.

If you add a huge point of no return inside your story then you are forced to make some very unpleasant/unpopolar choice whether you wish to continue that story later, like mass retcon or huge space/time shift (ME:A is the most recent example)

Someone has played too much Dark Souls.

Or... not enough Dark Souls.

Definitely, either more Dark Souls or less Dark Souls would probably solve this problem.

I agree. Now I do remember in ME2 you can do everything wrong and your Shepard dies. Can't move to the next game with that choice.

And you can decide to sacrifice your warden at the end of DA:O but then in the next game you could only choose between retcon that choice (and revive him) or keep him dead but continue the story with a preset world state (which meant to give up your HoF choices). Though, that problem was fixed later with DA Keep.

I like the idea of resurrecting the old Elven empire...it is not necessarily a bad thing...good or bad is a point of view. The old world destroyed, a "new" world reborn. That's a great idea

True but that wasn't a bad option. If everyone dies in ME2 you can't import the game which makes sense.

Problem massive genocide to bring back a society that will only destroy itself again is not a good idea. Last time I checked the ancient elves were racist, and still are. Pretty boring to play an ancient elf who makes slaves of its own people. Character creation would be very limited.

Seems to me that in these games you can never support letting the world burn. You HAVE to maintain the status quo "save the world" no matter what (Warden MUST stop the Blight, Hawke MUST side with mages or Templars in the final fight, the Inquisitor MUST stop the Breach and Corypheus), but how much of a jerk you want to be about it until that point is entirely up to you.

As opposed to the "interesting" character creator of a human PC (if the anti-race selection crowd had their way) in a human-dominated continent that got its power by making slaves of elves and its own people (Tevinter), and now keeps its power by suppressing elves and mages (Andrasteism), and showing complete indifference to non-human native races dying out (since elves and dwarves are slowly going extinct)?

It doesn't matter though, I doubt BioWare's going to let us support restoring Elvhenan since that would be too drastic a change. They wouldn't even let us come up with a definitive answer to the Mage/Templar War (it always ends with the Circles coming back, the College of Enchanters being formed, and the Templars not being dissolved completely); why would they let us restore the ancient elven world?
