Depending on your class losing an arm could be manageable or outright disable you from combat altogether depending on your class. My Inquisitor is a sword and board warrior so he should still be able to fight with his sword but his defense plummets due to not being able to use a shield properly.

How about you guys?

Mage. She's fine.

But really, most inquisitors are completely fine. It's the nondominant hand so it's not the end of the world. The only one I'm iffy about is the 2H warrior but that's only because I have absolutely no clue how to use a 2h sword.

Halved combat efficiency. One dagger versus two.

Mine is an archer. She... didn't take it well.

If I'm allowed to dip into head canons here, she never would have picked up a style with daggers or a rapier because she hates melee combat. However, she had been raised in the Chantry (thanks, parents) and so knew templar techniques were more about concentration and discipline rather than lyrium. Now she's pestering Cullen for training.

Mine is a 2H warrior but then, that's her specialty. The lost of a forearm is bad but she can count her blessings she's still sound in body. Since she's noble born, she would have trained with other types of weapons too so she could use a long sword or half-sword, dagger and throwing knives as secondary arms. If she really wants to get into the thick of things, a special shield can be strapped to the upper arm to offer some protection though it also meant she would have to adapt to another style of handling the sword to accommodate it. To fend off sudden attacks, she would learn to be more agile, more aware of her surroundings, learn another style of close in fighting and maintain the strength and flexibility of her limbs, even the one with no forearm.

Mine is also a archer. Used the bow for food (as a Dalish hunter) and then combat. I guess he can use that sweet crossbow-arm thing we see in the epilogue but I imagine him to mostly give up on fighting while focusing on scheming/trade/whatever he can find to make a living and pursue his quests. It kind of fits my elf personnality (I imagined him to be a better strategist than warrior from the beginning).

He is an assassin, so he still can use his throwing blades and poison if necessary.

As mine was an archer, it will be difficult to adjust, but he'll learn. It's not impossible to shoot with half an arm missing. :D His clan was wiped out so he's gon be a hobo and travel around.

So the whole forearm is missing? Why? That sounds like overkill. lol

Sorry, I haven't played Trespasser. I thought the mage sounded the least problematic, at a glance. Contrary to popular opinion, they're not actually finger wigglers.

SnS for me too. It's actually quite bad because part of my head-canon is that he had a back injury that led to him favoring the injured side (sword side), so during recovery he sort of transitioned to using the shield more for offense that he had previously. So, now he basically has to re-learn how to fight again with a missing arm and no shield.

Welp, my canon Inquisitor is a mage so she is okay.  I'm assuming she can just focus her magic through her staff as normal.  My boy Rafe though.. well, he was a DW dagger guy.  But he got Dorian as a consolation prize so there is that!

2H Warrior.

His days as a front-line combatant are done.  But his mind is still fine.  He can lead from the shadows.

All three mage Lavellans are doing great. They might have to relearn how to do fancy twirls with their staves one-handed, but one doesn't even really need a staff to perform magic anyway.

Female Qunari Sword-And-Shield Warrior will have a tougher time of it, but she'll manage. Losing her shield arm is mostly a nuisance because she likes to shield-bash the **** out of everything. I imagine she'll either have Dagna develop a prosthetic forelimb to attach her shield to so she can keep shield-bashing people, she'll tie the shield to her left bicep and slam her close-to-the-body shield into enemies like a window shutter... or she'll just learn how to nix the shield and start headbutting people. She's not picky about how to apply blunt-force trauma.

I think my female Cadash and male Lavellan Archers will have the toughest time of it, but again, they'll manage. More likely than not they'll have Dagna develop a special prosthetic limb that'll allow them to grip the bow with their left arm and keep drawing the string with the right one.

I haven't played the trespasser dlc yet. Not sure when. My Inquisitor would ask Dagna to make her an arm. Dagna is a very smart indidvidual. I'm sure she can come up something. Once done, my Inquisitor, who's a mage, will be throwing fireballs all over Thedas again. Excellent

My mages have absolutely no problem; they can even twirl their staff one handed.    My rogue Dalish archer assassin was initially traumatised by the loss because his bow had always seemed like an extension of himself.   However, he is also a survivor.    His assassin skills are transferrable, so he will retrain.   The idea that you are only able to use one weapon is a stupid one anyway.   Back in DAO you could use both melee and ranged weapons and anyone is going to be fairly proficient in their non preferred style for practical reasons.   So my rogue has always been fairly handy with a dagger; he just preferred using his bow.   Why put yourself in range of your enemies weapons when you can strike from a distance?     I also like the idea of him training in using a rapier, which is a lightweight sword that matches well with the agility he has perfected down the years, plus he can still look dashing with a cape covering his maimed arm.     I am also pretty certain that Dagna can come up with some sort of magical replacement arm that will at least allow him to hold a bow.   Failing that he will use a sling shot for ranged work. If it was good enough for David!

My canon mage is fine, but he had difficulties at first that had nothing to do with spellcasting because the left was his dominant hand.

Archer Lavellan is doing surprisingly ok.  She'll probably never get to the point where she can use a longbow again.  But by the end of the game, the overwhelming majority of her damage came from traps, grenades, and poisons.  She's perfectly capable of using those one-handed.  And she's an artificer, so she can build and maintain her own prosthetics.

Mage Adaar is...less ok.  Not because of combat, but the psychological impact of losing an arm.

None of my inquisitors made use of two handed weapons so they should be fine, in the one case, if a historical figures like a roman general can have a prosthesis that allows him to use a shield and in another example a medieval knight had a nearly articulate prosthesis metal hand that allowed him to go into battle I am sure Danga or someone else can whip something up to get my inquisitor back in the fight if need be.

Main character: Lavellan Mage ;) she's still able to inferno'd her way through things so yes, I think she'll be fine. If anything, she's more scarier now to those outside of her 'circle' as the one-armed Inquisitor. It's how she carries herself around, I supposed

(Planned) Lavellan hunter: Bummed because could no longer use her favourite bow and suffer some psychological moments of self doubt. Then she opted the new crossbow arm and adopt a new fighting style. And finally, she can learn to laugh again.

(Planned) Adaar Templar: Dont care. Give me a shield attached to my prosthetics and I'm good. And remained as that Awsomequisitor everybody has grown to love and rely upon.

My canon is a dual-wield rogue assassin, and after 20 years of dagger training and use, she feels pretty vulnerable.

My HC is Dagna and her little brother are working to help her out. But in the meantime, it's rough on her.

Honestly, I dunno if I'm gonna headcanon Nasir as still having the mark but, as in my headcanon it had been spreading all over his body and causing him agonizing pain (which in the base game every time he/she used it the Inq. experienced a feeling like 'my nerves are on fire'), and still suffering from said pain and everything...

or if I'm going to have him def. be armless as a result of Solas taking it back, and eventually he gets a metal prosthetic arm to replace it. So he'd be the Fullmetal Dwarf. Also give him a Lee Everett moment at some point.

Either way I want Nasir to still be handicapped.

....maybe I could have Nasir have residual energy left inside of him from the Anchor that allows him to tap into the powers he gained from it, sort of. At the very least, Aegis of the Rift.

I dunno it involves a lot of my thoughts on the Anchor as we understand it so meh...

Either way Nasir's still a badass.

I can still bite your legs off.

The Inquisitor's gonna be the new Black Knight.
