In before someone says, "Me," or, "My Warden, <Insert name here>."
To answer the question though, I quite liked Riordan and wished we could have seen more of him.
You made it before I could. So instead of my Warden I would say Nathaniel Howe as a good Warden, although I enjoy Sigrun and Oghren more as characters.

Alistair...it was his chance to belong to something
Nate...quiet, stoic, there he was in the deep roads in DAII, doing his warden thing...I like to think he's a mentor to Carver
Carver...he comes into his own as a warden

2. Carver.
3. Warden Commander Clarel, despite her being a utter idiot, she was a amazing person when she stood up to Edmond. I really like her cause of that.
4. Duncan. He's cool enough to save me from being raped in the Female City Elf origin. He deserves a place here.
5. Loghian in DAI. No, nope I never kept him alive in DAO in my canons. He's just like mind blowing epic in DAI.

Alistair/Loghain/Stroud by virtue being one of few wardens that weren't idiots that are threat to the world safety.
Avernus despite being threat to world safety guy at least achieved some results.

Well besides the obvious choice of the Hero of Ferelden, I really liked the Awakening Wardens (yes, even Velanna), though Sigrun was probably my favourite of the bunch. Shame Bioware seems to have totally forgotten about that expansions
Avernus was pretty cool, too, and Riordan and Duncan were great as well.

The Awakening Squad is my favourite squad.
Sigrun, Nathaniel, Velanna, *whispers* anders, justice.
All interesting characters with lots of different facets to them. I liked all of them. Lots of win there.
My all time favourite will always be Loghain, though. He really shined in DA:I, but I enjoyed saving him in DA:O too - he's really quite honest with you about his mistakes, his regrets, he's still practical about it and willing to make the best out of his situation, but it's also clear from talking to him - nobody has ever asked him what he wanted to do, what he wants from life: he's either been pushed into doing things, or acted out of what he perceives as necessity, he's not had a happy life in the slightest. This all comes packaged with a beautifully wry sense of humour on top.
The only thing I really disliked about Loghain was what happened with the alienage in DA:O. It's probably because I play a lot of elves, but most of them can never forgive him for that. I think one of the reasons my Brosca was canon for DA:O was because she could reasonably justify saving Loghain, and I could RP it without having to take any weird twists and turns.

Should probably add that Fiona is another favourite of mine - although I think I might get attacked for this choice, haha. She's gone through a lot, survived a bunch of ordeals and never gave in, and achieved a bunch of stuff by Asunder. We won't talk about the travesty that was her writing in In Hushed Whispers though, that makes no sense from a character perspective, so I'm going to ignore that. I still have a lot of respect and love for her despite it.

Alistair, Nathaniel, Sigrun, Riordan, Duncan and Carver. (Obviously the HoF is the best)
Honestly the traitorious snake Loghain is never a Warden in my Thedas.

I suppose Duncan and Alistair are my favorites, but for different reasons.
Alistair because there is SO MUCH MORE to him than meets the eye, and there's always some new tidbit about him that's never obvious, but when it's revealed, it's all a "Why didn't I see that before?" kind of event.
First we find that he's not a messenger, he's an actual Warden.
- Alright, that makes sense.
Oh, and he has Templar training.
- Ah, I see, that explains his skill with a sword and shield, and why he's good against magic-based enemies like demons.
He's heir to the throne of Ferelden.
- (spit-take) WHAT!?!?
He banishes his own mother, OR she dies by your hand.
- (face of despair) No...
He is generally easy to gain approval, simply by being a decent fellow, and even if he's at low or negative approval, he's still loyal. If not to you at least to the cause. But the fact that he throws a fit when it comes to deciding Loghain's fate, that really cements that he is NOT generic. Not that he was before, but in most situations he can be agreeable or at least understanding of the brutal logic. Here he's basically saying "him or me", and if you don't do it 'right' you lose him forever.
Gameplay-wise, he's great to have around, to the point where he basically had a permanent spot in my party. But not just that, he fits the role of "protagonist" and "hero" in a BioWare creation (snark, special abilities, grand destiny or sorts), but he also has the perspective of us, the player, in that we wouldn't want to actually deal with the kind of issues that plague all of Thedas.
--------
Duncan, because he embodies the concept of a "Grey Warden" so precisely.
He respects those in authority, but has that remorseful ruthlessness to conscript the Warden, whether it's against the will of the Couslands or the Knight Commander, or even you.
He takes the life of Jory, even if your Warden disagrees.
He responds fearlessly when King Cailan is slain.
And no matter what you do, you can't save him.
BioWare games have a knack for providing a "third option", or an "earn your happy ending", but there is no way to save Duncan. Whether you're the cousin of Hawke or a noble of Ferelden, Duncan's ultimate fate is a grim, stark reminder that for all the choices the player has, we are still a passenger in the stories of Thedas.
--------
If I had to pick just one, I would pick Alistair, simply because of the longevity and the fact that my party relies on his abilities in Origins.

Blackwall, Loghian and Nathaniel Howe, I think thats about it, I have more favorite Templars and Seekers than I do favorite wardens. But with those three its something about their manner and personality that makes them seem like what a grey warden should be.

1. Nathaniel - Dry sense of humor, comes to the Wardens after his life is turned into a shambles by his father. Earns back some respect for the Howe family name, saves the Teryn of Highever's Life, etc. My favorite Warden.
2. Alistair - How can he not be in the top three? He may be socially clueless at first, but he sure as heck can TANK! Tankity, tankity, tankity, tank. Love him for that - but glad he's the king.
3. Sigrun - Loved her outgoing rather cheerful nature despite her past. Wish they'd done more with her, she was such a great character.
4. Oh, and I have to add Riordan who was probably the sexiest of all the Wardens with that voice (how could he possibly have been Ferelden with that accent - yeah, I know, but). And dang, running out into the wild blue yonder, to land on a dragon. Come on, that is entirely bada**.

Duncan: I liked the story of how he began on the Grey Wardens, as said above he is almost the incarnation of the people's conception of Grey Wardens.
Larius: He maybe was harsh on how he forced Malcom to fortify Corypheus' prison, but even when he had to be retired he was preventing his fellow Wardens to do something stupid, he is also a mangy blighted little mongoose that can save you from a little boss fight.

Nothing beats Loghain for me, most of all because we are able to witness his entire story within the order.
He's the "the likely warden," admitted to the order as a war criminal and usurper, forced to give his past life up, and in Inquisistion he can give his own life without a single doubt saving the Inquisitor and the Champion of Kirkwall and the lives of many southern wardens. If he lives he possibly becomes First Warden of the southern Grey Wardens, if they actually sever ties with Weisshaupt.
