I agree with you, Mac, Loghain is my favorite Warden and my favorite antagonist. Actually, now that I think of it, he is one of my all time faves of the franchise. Such a complicated character.

Probably Duncan, I was surprised to see the low amount of screen time he had in Origins. I was expecting him to be in it longer.

Literally a tie between Loghain and my own warden.

I couldn't care less about Loghain when I was playing DA:O. Blah blah, complicated character, whatever. Still awful. Out you go.

On a whim, I decided to make the "worst world state" in the DA keep, and chose to I keep Loghain alive then (because of my thinking him the worst and all, naturally ). Meeting Loghain-the-Warden in Inquisition, however, was more epic than I thought it would ever be -- if I ever anticipated it would be epic at all.

Rather than thinking that Loghain "improved" or "got better" in this game, I credit my choice to entertain a what-if-he-was-alive scenario as the thing that actually allowed me to appreciate him more. Because really, Loghain has been as Loghain-ish as he's ever been all these years; he was just as complicated in DA:I as he was in DA:O. His circumstances had changed, but I felt that  the essence of him hadn't. I liked that. I liked his pragmatism, and his level-headedness. I simply refused to entertain his storyline in Origins, was all. I was all about the Alistair love then, but my newfound appreciation for Loghain has eclipsed even that. And, lemme tell you, Alistair and I were tight.

I even sacrificed my favorite Hawke in the Fade to keep Loghain alive, just to see what he would do for the Wardens. He wouldn't be the Warden I'd invite over for dinner (I've only got places reserved for Alistair and Stroud, sorry), but I consider him the most compelling and interesting Warden out there.

Lol... you know, when I wrote my post I totally forgot about Duncan. Even though I picked Riordan, who has less screen time than Duncan, I've just never been that into him for some reason. o_O

Not sure

I guess I'll go with Loghain. I like him in DAO. The time I did have him in DAI, I left him in the fade.

Alistair as warden in DA:I was great, he was fully mature and on point. Also he has more content than Loghain and Stroud, as well as more dialogues depending on what you chose on keep.

A tie between Duncan and Nate. Duncan is sort of the Obi-Wan Kenobi of Dragon Age  He comes and takes you under his wing; he either saves your life or forces you to face facts: if you don't come with him, you die (my favorite origin, Dalish). He's kind and slips into the mentor role so naturally; I looked up to him so much (and I, the player, had a wee bit of a crush, hehe) that I almost felt jealous when Alistair went on and on about how special Duncan was to him. I LIKED HIM MORE!! Hmph. :P

Nathaniel, well I've only played the DLC once, but enters the scene full of rage and a desire for vengeance but also a little bit of self-loathing. When he becomes a warden it's as if he's found his purpose, and imo sort of becomes the epitome of a warden. Strong and righteous and determined, yet full of secrets. A disappointment he can die, as having to choose between him and Hawke would've been awful. Imagine if instead of Stroud it was Nate who was the default (assuming no Loghain or Alistair). That decision would've actually been difficult.
