After looking around online last night, having turned in some creature research materials so that in game it mentions the research bonus, but not being able to find any information on exactly how much of a bonus, I decided to do a test this morning.
My sample size was a total of 120 Nugs in Haven (30 killed prior to turning in research with basic attacks, 30 prior to turning in research with skills, 30 after turning in research with basic attacks, and 30 after with skills) and based on the assumption that Nugs are considered part of the beast category. Having already turned in the full set of research for Nugs however I went Druffalo hunting in the same area, since Druffalo are supposed to give a bonus to damage against beasts, until I was able to turn in the full research set of 3 items for those creatures to test just how much of a damage bonus there is.
The end result is that for basic attacks, there was no statistically significant change in damage, and that with skills the sample size actually showed a decrease in damage of 0.7% (which probably means no change with a larger sample size).
End result meaning one, or more of the following, and I don't really care enough at this point to do any further testing:
1. The damage bonus does not exist or is intended to exist but is bugged/broken.
2. The damage bonus only refers to your experience reward for completing full research on a creature.
3. Maybe Nugs are not considered beasts?
4. Feel free to skip out on creature research, you're not missing anything.
