I only played the game once.  I side with the mages before and tried to keep all companions happy. By the end of the game I only really liked two of them. So I wanted to try something different.

What happens if you:

Kill the mages

Rival Anders

Rival Fenris

Don't recuit Isabella

I also want a snarky Hawke doing this. Is it possible and what happens?

You can do all of this. But while you can rival Anders and Fenris together, I don't think it works out that well. Anders is angry with you for being friendly with Templars, but Fenris seems to think you're the opposite.

Isabela's quest will play out the same, but it'll be a mystery who took the Tome of Koslun. It's not as dramatic. And Aveline just isn't funny without her, in general.

Meredith still goes crazy if you side with the Templars.. The artifact messed her up, but she also thinks you're just playing her.

Thanks. Is there any playthrough value in siding with the Templars? If so how should i do it?

Which players should I rival or shouldn't I rival any like my first playthrough.

I can't tell you that. There isn't value other than personal/story reasons.

There's lots of ways to do it too.. I mean, at the end it's an A or B choice. Simple. But you could be Anders or mage friendly the whole game before that. Maybe Hawke feels responsible. Or maybe they're just pissed off after Leandra dies. Or worse yet, maybe they're actually a Qunari fan and let Arishok go. Siding with Temps later isn't much of a stretch then. :D

It is possible to rival both Anders and Fenris (to maximum).  You just have to know who to take when.  The DAwiki has info on what gives rivalry/friendship points.

Basically Anders hates anything pro blood magic/demon dealing, anti mages.  Fenris hates anything with being nice to slavers and helping mages.  Fenris also hates being patronized.  I've successfully rivaled both on several playthroughs.

Isabela never needs to be recruited, just don't go into the Hangman after dark once you've recruited Anders.  Or if you do by accident and she's there, just tell her get lost.  The events of Act 2 still happen with or without her.

The only advantage in truth with siding with the templars really is you do get Meredith's help against Orsino when he goes all blood magicy but other thaqn that there isn't much differnce in the end.

Pro-Templar can have some rather hilarious results TBH.

1st playthrough, I kicked Anders from my party, told Merril to leave from Kirkwall so she'd be save, and Bethany was no longer with the living, and I sided with Meredith. The game's logic for why you even have a final boss is so flimsy that it's nothing short of funny. You get the hilarity of Meredith fighting you because Bethany, was at one point, alive and a mage.

That red lyrium was some power stuff I tell you.

LOL!  Or, for a mage!Hawke, you would have the hilarity of Meredith fighting you because you're an apostate (which she admits at the end of Act 2 she's known for some time) and because she convinced you in the beginning of Act 3 to betray the mages.  You also get the delicious irony of templars bowing to a mage.

Act 3 is just one of the funniest things I've seen in a game in a long time... And wow, that was a ton of typos in that last post!

I didn't kill the mages but I did have a contentious relationship with them.

-Amicable to Templar side more, though I did pick Mages in the end

-Rival-ish Anders, killed him

-Rival (only outright rival of them all) Merrill

(Oh and Isabella wasn't Friend enough with me to return for Act 3. Though I'm not sure if this is my definitive canon run.)
