Seeing the Claymore advocated in like 90% of the builds thread is at least as much as annoying as the "playing the weapon" crap.

This isn't directed at me, but I'd say its no more annoying than seeing 99% of suggested builds immediately defaulting to advocating perfectly boring I win buttons like Hurrdurricane, Acolyte, Talon, Carrier, Wraith, Arc Pistol (obviously not boring but you get my point), or Venom because most are godmode weapons with virtually no drawbacks that can be slapped onto almost any generic build for instant effectiveness (even weapon platforms).

"Playing the weapon" is also a silly misnomer for certain builds (mostly heavy weapon loadouts) when, due to the way this game is balanced, even those so called "casters" with 200% cooldown will do anywhere from half to the vast majority of their DPS with the weapon if they are optimized and played properly with one of the godmode guns, outside of certain characters like the Furry and Talon Merc.

Besides, I never see Claymoars in pugs and would welcome more of them and their glorious BOOOMs

I've looked at making a claymore build, and after choosing the weapon weight reduction evo and recharge speed evos and recharge equipment, you can actually get powers to a 2.8 second cooldown.
Hardly terrible, and you have a claymore!

Yes if you chose an arc pistol, you can get faster cooldowns, and more power to attacks, but if you don't like the arc pistol mechanics, it's silly to take it. Your going to be using that gun all the time, may as well make it one you like.

One way of looking at building a character is to look at its pros and play to improve them to gain maximum effect.

But another way to build it to look at its shortcomings and work to cover those areas so you have no weakness.

Tl:dr variety is the spice of life

I honestly truly believe you don't understand why, nor are you capable of understanding. It is beyond your comprehension. You're indoctrinated!

...but there are worse things to be indoctrinated by. :D

I run my HA with an Executioner Pistol modded with the Heavy Barrel, Piercing, and Warp rounds. So I got a lightweight pistol that hits like a truck, and between the low cooldowns and reload canceling, nothing lives very long

No, but seriously. I don't understand that. Why would it be annoying? It's just one or more guy sharing their opinions. They can be boring, stupid, and worthless opinions, but I have a hard time seeing how they can be annoying to someone.

I can suggest using a Claymore in every thread asking for a build, because maybe I find it fun to play that way and I'd like to share that fun with others. Why would people find this annoying?

Boring? I can understand. Stupid? Yeah, that too. But annoying? Just because it's different from what they're used to play?

Maybe I'm just indoctrinated, yeah...

Well, speaking of more important things. I know there is a good number of french players here, and I'm pretty sure there will be someone from Paris or who has some loved ones there.

I would just like to express my sorrow for what happened. Stay strong, guys. I'm sure the thoughts of everyone are with you, tonight.

Edit: heck, I'll make a thread about it.

Let's see... BE's for wide area damage on a massive scale or shooting everything one at a time? HA's BE via Warp->Shockwave rival a Claymore shot and if you're hitting them regularly, your relevant dps is quite high. Why play a mage class when you're castinng at half the rate? Go for Turian Sentinel or something. You're limiting yourself greatly imo. If you prefer not to be an adept, More Power To Ya ®

I'd liken it to being annoyed every time I see an AIU-Reegar in a lobby. Although annoyed maybe isn't the right word, so the trouble might just be semantics. I went through an annoyed "leave the lobby" phase, now it's just tiresome. I expect it to happen, and honestly if that's what they want to play go ahead. Some of em aren't too bad. The rare one will still help with objectives and whatnot.

Seeing every kit with the same weapon all the time would in my mind, get tiresome as well.

That's some rough reasoning and a bad metaphor, so don't take my words literally. As I don't have a problem with anyone using any weapon really. Game's too old (and lately it feels like so am I) to worry about much. So long as the Krogan headbutts back and the group sticks near the drone/hack I'm happy. (And really I'd just settle for the headbutt back. Damn pyjaks.)

Well, maybe "annoying" was a too strong word, I don't know. It doesn't make me mad, I reassure you. My reaction is more like "Seriously ? Again ? Even for this character ?" This is gimmickal / caricatural". No big deal.

What's the fixation on pistols?  They're fun and usually useful, but my Paladin II and Talon I aren't exactly tearing apart Banshees or even Brutes.

don't get me wrong, the Claymore-Cult is funny and stuff.
and a forum needs such things.

but you say people would jump at you.
I am not sure if things are meant that way. it's rather the other way round, "cool people" wouldn't dare to say anything against the Highlord :police:  ;)

well, I usually (try to) analyze the character, where his damage is supposed to be coming from.
and I often get to the conclusion that I want to use my powers as often as possible. also, it feels nice to have more flexibility through shorter cool downs on the battlefield. just my opinion.

Edit:  I forgot something.   I've spent a long time with ME and now I am always looking for changes/variety.  Putting the Claymore on a Power Kit means that the actual gameplay feels quite similar to one another.    I just want to "feel" every character with their differences and use their unique way to play.

If I am familiar enough with a kit to know there are other effective shotguns to use, then I will use one of those.  But when in doubt, Claymore.

The Talon 1 is plenty good for using on a Human Adept.  At Level 1, it's simply a powerful weapon, instead of a weapon that is overpowered for its weight like it is at higher levels.  Slap some Warp ammo on it and laugh at how quickly it drops Banshee's barriers.  Use biotic explosions along with your Talon fire, and those Banshees and Brutes won't last long.

...and when you're in hardcover the accuracy still lets you pull off some really long spectacular head shots.

It also functions as a sort of Weapon Damage dump into Power Damage via the Power Amp. Yeah you could be doing a bit more damage with your pistol given a different Amp, but some kits benefit a lot from the exchange. (Human Adept, Drell/Justicar-Reave. Asarinfiltrator's hefty DC.)

My question is, what's the fixation on gimmicks? I ain't gotta say I'm a ____ Master Race or use nerd slang like peestree or mustard, nor do I need jamoke posts about how this or that weapon should be used with everything (yeah I do joke with the Venom but I don't suggest it on everything).

I've said it a million times but the shotguns are very balanced in comparison to most other weapons. You could go with any and do alright with an adept but I just don't agree or see the logic behind sacrificing your powers for guns when an adept or even engineer typically has the most utility with their abilities.

Ignoring ultra-rares and "dinky pistols", there's a few options in ARs. There is the Mattock, which is light enough to give a 3.02 sec cooldown on Warp (Less for properly evolved Singularity and Shockwave), so you can still get your explosions, and still do some weapon damage. Or, if you want to take a Power Efficiency Module, the much maligned (but very nice) Collector (Assault) Rifle is also a nice choice.
