I am going to defer to Arktinen on this matter, as I believe her view may shed more light on the matter.

My spouse is super impressed by my hours spent playing space war video games with other grown "adults".

I thought she was a nice catch as well. Keeps me quite warm on those cold Flotilla nights. Never judges, and is always there for me.

And when she makes me want to strangle her, I could do it, and she would bounce right back for more.  Then we would both laugh about it afterwards, and share a special moment together.

My wife doesn't play, but she likes to help name and design the characters. Then when enough time passes and she forgets what she made, I'll go in and change the colors because they were probably hideous haha

As the gril side of us (being the other half of Arkhne), I give full credit to (or blame?) my husband for getting me into ME3 MP and other games. :)

Before him, I had only played a bit of old Tekkens and a miniscule amount of Doom, but that was about it. Ever since we met, we've been playing together, so I guess nowadays I can be considered a proper gamergirl.

Tips for getting the other half to play, from a gril's perspective:

If she is even the least bit interested, try to find out what makes her tick and what kind of game she might enjoy, and start with that one. I guess I was an easy candidate for ME, as I like shooting, burning & exploding stuff. We started with co-ops Diablo II, then Borderlands2 (still one of my favourites).

For some, it can be the beautiful sceneries or storylines, that get them hooked. Or the competitive aspect. Or simply the ability to beat you in your own game and kick the living scheisse out of you.

When Arkhne started to play ME3 again, I first thought it looked too complicated, but one time he just put the controller in my hand mid-game, with the Jugg and suggested I give it a go, just for fun. "This guy is a sturdy robot, they can't kill you." So, off I went, trying to  walk straight, while he was patiently giving me advice on what buttons to push, where to go, what to watch out, step by step. :) (And also calmed me down when I freaked out by too many enemies  ).

So, an easy and safe character, mixed with some new-game-thrills and patient support, is one good way to start. A soft landing, so to speak. I can't empasize the patience enough - after playing for a long time themselves, many people seem to completely forget, how hard it was to start out as a total newbie when you don't know how to take cover, or even reload at first!

And how you can so easily mix up your buttons and do something totally derpy instead. :D You just have to be able to laugh at yourself, too.

My sympathies for anyone whose 'other half' doesn't understand, or even hates gaming. It is your hobby, though; something that interests you and is important to you. Makes me sad to hear that so many people have those issues.

I personally see anyone openly hating or belittling your 'me-time' or any hobby, as disrespecting the other person. Frankly, I'd also find it nigh impossible to share my life with anyone, who didn't approve of my hobby or downright despised it. Be it camping, cycling, movies, or gaming.

So, we're one of those quirky, happy gamer-couples. We often take turns playing ME3 (except I don't play Platinum, yet.), so it is our common hobby and a great way to spend time together. Couples who play together, stay together.

Or sometimes I hog the game and he has to fight for my attention over some hot Turian, Drell or Krogan...

Glorious PC Master race couple here (although I'm a console peasant as well). Some facts:

We bought ourselves ME3 for our 2nd anniversary just to play it together.  :)

We've beaten most coop games, except DA:I, which turned out to be crap.

Right now we're playing Fallout 4.

Life is good. :)

I'd see about getting that pillow because Tali, but my sister told my dad that Tali was my favorite LI and I haven't heard the end of it since (been 3 years now...).   <_<

Why would you be embarrassed about having excellent taste in video game girlfriends?

Hmm, can I fluff your pillows?  :P

Sure, I don't mind sharing, and fluffing Tali is fun and always Totally Worth It™.

You'll have to ask the resident turian fetishist about Garrus tho. I don't actually have him :'(

Not embarrassed, it's just that my dad constantly makes comments about it.  He can be worse than Isabela and Zevran with his comments, I swear....   -_-

Yes, it is true. She spends much more time checking them out than I do. It's a good thing I usually choose female characters by default when playing games.

She had always thought that my playing of mass effect was immature. So I named him that as an immature and light hearted joke one day.
She didn't get the joke unfortunately. (Probably because she had no idea he was a Juggernaut). My bad....

I actually dragged my husband into Mass Effect 3 (PC) (I've been playing Mass Effect since the very beginning... all 3, over and over lol).  ME3MP was my first experience with multiplayer, and I've been hooked ever since. He plays a lot of different games (I've been told I should find a new one; why?), but some evenings we just fire up the PCs and spend some quality time saving the universe   We both have lots of hobbies; even tho we don't share them all, I'd like to think we support each other's interests... I can't imagine having to justify my gaming time (or my yarn stash... ).
