[Deadly dwarf]

Okay, my female city elf warden has made her way through the estate to save Shianni.  She's a rogue and I do have the first level to unlock checks ability.  However, here and there I find doors requiring keys.  I just killed Vaughan and didn't get a key from him.  Have I missed something?  Or are these locked doors meant to be opened later in the game when Howe occupies the estate?

Exactly what doors are you talking about? Yes, there are a number of closed doors (like the backdoor in Vaughan's room that leads to the dungeons and then some in the corridors), most likely to limit the size of the level.

There are about two or three doors during this level where it says "key required."  To me, that means there must be a way to open them.  I noticed that the door to the dungeon is visible but there is no mentioned of it being locked or requiring a key.  To  me, this more clearly means "not openable during this part of game."

The doors are used during a much later quest.

The doors you're talking about aren't available till later in the game. Don't stress it.
