So I have been thinking about what happened with the ancient elves and I've been on the site a while and I just wondered what people thought was the most common theory/guess about what happened with Mythal, Solas, the Titans and the ancient elves?

I used to watch youtube theories but there haven't really been that many since Trespasser and so you could say I'm parched.

My own guess is just me putting 2 and 2 together and getting 5. It's in a few parts.

Part 1:
My guess is that the Evanuris created/invented the blight in order to use against the Titans and control them in order to have access to the lyrium and ultimately to bring them under control. Mythal goes against this plan and kills the first blighted Titan. This is all put together in my head based on the codex about Mythal slaying the titan, the fact the Evanuris controlled some of their slaves via compulsion, and the comments Solas made about how their plan would bring the world to an end.

Part 2:
Mythal's actions are ultimately what leads to her "murder" and causes the Evanuris to go against her, or at least Elgar'Nan and whoever his accomplices were. I think this because it's difficult to reconcile the stories about Mythal being so loved and respected, and then the other ancient Elvhen myths about her "judgments" and actions. These don't, to me, amount to enough of a reason for her murder. Mythal has to have put herself in the way of something, or does something to anger the Evanuris, for them to murder her and this theory goes nicely with part 1.

Part 3:
Solas starts the rebellion against the Evanuris in response to Mythal's betrayal and locks the Evanuris away either to prevent them continuing with their plan to control the titans or to prevent them using the blight against the Elvhen slaves themselves.

The only thing I can't cope up with a theory on is how the blight got into the Golden City or how Solas tricked the Evanuris or otherwise locked them up.

So yeah, I'm interested to know what people think of this theory and also to know what any other theories there are. Also, as my thread title suggests, I want to know if there is one commonly accepted theory amongst DA fans about all of this?

It's quite a popular set of theories, but the connection of Blight and the Golden City is a sticking point.

It also treads a little too close to Rule #1 for Dragon Age writers.  They have said that they will never, ever confirm or refute the existence of the Maker, so every theory about these things has to have a "pro-Maker" and an "anti-Maker" version.

(Of course, the Chant of Light could simply be wrong about the city.  The writers said they will never refute the Maker, but they're quite happy to poke holes in the human-written Chant of Light.)

I'm not sure if I buy the theory, but if I were arguing for it, I would point out the following:

  • Many people believe the first elves were spirits who took on a body like Cole.  There are codices where they call spirits their "brethren."  In the codices about the Golden City, the Maker at first welcomed spirits into his city.  If the blight was a weapon inside of it, someone could have made off with a weapon that was already there in the city and used it.  That would be the pro-Maker version.
  • An anti-Maker version would be that the Golden City was originally the capital of the Evanuris, and Solas sealed them inside perhaps with their weapon.  Maybe he unleashed it on them, a away of making them pay for their crimes.  Maybe they unleashed it on the magisters to get revenge on the world because they themselves couldn't leave.  Maybe it was part of a chess game to return to the world.

As for the basis of Mythal's betrayal, that seems to fit well with the lore, but only time will tell.
