I never understood why Bioware doesn't release all of the soundtrack on the OSTs... I mean, what? Why pick and choose? Let us deide which ones we like.

Yeah. I'm still upset that they chose three ambient tracks (all of them associated with the fade) over the tracks that played in In Your Heart Shall Burn.  :P

Any musicians here, guys? B) I am wondering about the lead instrument in the Lost Elf Theme... is it a cello? I think it's a cello, but I am not 100% sure.

I heard Lynroy studies music. She could know about the instruments.  :D

Cello is my favorite instrument after the piano. (not biased toward the piano at all. nope.)

The second one is great... Don't know why they didn't put almost any combat music on the OST.

Thank you both and sorry I'm responding so late, I missed your replies! Great music!

Here is one more track which I believe wasn't included in the official ost, but imo is epic <3

Official OST has Sacrifice. It's track number is 8.

I'm not sure how the videos embedding works. It mostly works for me but occasionally, it doesn't.

I loved this soundtrack and bought it ASAP, as it's easily some of the most beautiful music in the whole series. Kudos to Trevor Morris. I haven't been able to stop listening to the "Lost Elf" and "Dark Solas" themes for a week now, and frankly there's beautiful stuff all the way through (as well as the main "Descent" theme).

I mean, I was distracted by the beauty of "Dark Solas" while playing the final combat -- I just wanted to stop fighting and listen! It was gorgeously done.

But I do wish they'd release a Part 2 with:

  • The big lush strings version of "Lost Elf/Dark Solas" -- basically, the third variation, the "Dread Wolf" theme everyone is sharing on YouTube
  • The new "Trespasser" bard songs
  • The additional big "Descent" combat variation

As a movie/game soundtrack nut, I also still wish they'd also release:

  • The instrumental bard song versions
  • The French bard song versions

I'm an amateur cellist (I picked it up in college after quitting voice) and it remains my favorite instrument (I'm not very good, but I did play third chair for a year in a small symphony just for the experience of it). I love the use of the cello in "Lost Elf.

I was so excited when I found out I was able to buy the original bard songs album. But having now played through much of the game in French (and spent time idling in Halamshiral during my English playthroughs), I vehemently second the request for those versions of the songs (as well as all the new ones).

I agree!  The French songs aren't just French versions of the English ones -- they're slightly different in instrumentation and approach. I remember just standing at The Winter Palace garden and being so knocked out by the French version of one of the songs (I think it was "Rise") -- and as I did so often at the Skyhold Tavern, I just stood there listening through whole songs. (My elf totally would have waved a lighter if she could have... or a torch... or candle... )

I thought of more, too -- I would also ask for:

  • The a cappella bard song versions (some of them are really haunting)
  • The original (ORIGINAL) version of "The Dawn Will Come"

(Also, did anyone else laugh out loud in "Trespasser" when Maryden starts to play "Sera Never" and we hear a thwang/crash then Sera looks smug and says, "Always hated that song" -- ? So funny.)

The music in this game -- from start to finish through DLCs -- has just been stunning. I'm a film music buff and the work on this (as with the writing and voice talent) is every bit as good to me as any great movie or TV score. (Trevor Morris's style on DAI actually reminds me a little of Murray Gold's beautiful work on "Doctor Who" during seasons 2-4 -- gorgeous melodies, surging strings, lots of innovative and unexpected intervals and powerful bass counterpoints.)
