Remember these tracks that you heard when walking around illium or the citadel? Ah good times. Please bring good ambience back BioWare, not that Mario light techno of ME3, I'd like to have more more deep-dark techno like these songs.

ME1? Yes please. ME2? No thanks.
I have a lot of issues with ME2, but the ambience isn't one of them. Places like Omega and Illium had a great feel to them, which I don't think ME1 would have really done justice.
I was never a big fan of Omega (as so many here seem to be). I didn't mind Illium so much. The thing is, I hated the music from the night clubs. Half the time I was at those hubs, I had to hear that crap.
I'm just partial to ME1's more atmospheric synth type sounds.
ME1 style seems more fitting for the theme of Andromeda.

Ditto. ME1 is so much more unique and establishes tone for levels so much more effectively. After ME1 the series became more generic and so did the music.
Yeah, that's my big complaint with the later soundtracks. ME1 was unique, had a lot of unusual sounds that really made me listen when I heard the music. ME2 and ME3 had soundtracks that kinda just faded into the background, didn't stand out that much, just kinda had the generic 'epic' sound to them that I expect from movie scores these. I want that uniqueness to come back for Andromeda.

ME3's ambient music was all basically recycled from ME1, only less prominent and slower paced. Personally I'm not a huge fan of ambient music in general, because after a while it starts to get wearisome, so I liked that ME3 at least kept it much lower most of the time. I don't like the Presidium music at all. It's a nice sound to introduce us to one of the grander parts of the Citadel, but it loses its charm after a few hours of hearing it. I am forever glad that the Normandy theme is gone.
ME2s ambiance was horrible.
ME1 soundtrack over ME2 or ME3 any day of the week.
Uncharted Worlds, The Normandy, Vigil, Liara's World, Noveria, Saren ... all absolutely brilliant audio setpieces.
ME2 was largely forgettable with the exception of the themes for Mordin, Samara and Infiltration (Kasumi DLC). ME3 edges ahead of ME3, but mostly just because the soundtrack paid back homage to the ME1 style for some tracks.
The problem for me is that making a grand orchestral soundtrack like you hear them in blockbuster movies or some such might appear a good idea at first, but you hear the same fanfare in every movie, every trailer and every game that tries to do the same thing. It's ubiquitious and just blends together in one anonymous mash-up of generic epic orchestral stereotypes (pun intended) you can hear by the hundreds if you search for that in Youtube.
No, bring back the ambience of VLR.
ME1 for me had the best soundtrack of all three games. When I think about ME then Noveria, Ilos and Saren theme came to mind. We need that feeling back.

It's interesting that I'm in the minority that I find ME1 music and ambient extremely boring. I would be happy if the ME2 ambient style will return, maybe in the lines of Illium and Kasumi's DLC. The silence of ME3 was pretty disappointing.
I could never explain this, but even with all its text explanations, midi sounding music, and awkard combat, ME:1 gave me chills. It drew me in the most out of the three games. Even the start screen, with that little "bing" when you press start.

Noveria man... I STILL REMEMBER THE 1 TIME I HEARD THAT. as soon as i heard that i knew ME would be in my top3 favorite games of all times.
Same thing happened with deus ex 1 with New york streets theme
I think ME2 had the best music. However, I think they all had some great tracks (Vigil is amazing, An End Once and For All (Extended Cut) is awesome). This is my favourite from the series though;
The way it starts with Illusive Man theme to build up the suspense...then the sharp strings make it real tense. Finally the drums kick in and you're in for an epic song!

I very much agree with this statement. Part of the reason I love ME1 soundtrack is because it fits gameplay and world stituation like a glove. Drums and orchestral music while catching the attention immediatly hardly fit most of the games situations especially when you are not dealing in defining moments but just exploring. Music shouldn't be great per se but supporting the gaming context in which it operates.
I have two great examples:
If you listen to this track alone you might find it boring but put in the context of exploring an abandoned base or site then it becomes great because it is peaceful yet warning you. I still remember this track because it immersed me greatly in the exploration. How a drum would work while exploring? ME should really focus on ambient and synth music mostly with few orchestral tracks in the defining moments of the game..
The second example:
Again the track alone isn't particularly memorable but I do remember it because it fitted the strange and dangerous feeling of Noveria Labs, you know something wrong was done inside these labs and yet feel compelled to explore despite the danger lurking behind the corner.
So although one might say that ME2 and ME3 had soundtracks that were better music I contest the notion that better more memorable music always fits the game situations. I think a good soundtrack should serve the game immersion and not just being cool and memorable. THIS is why I love ME1 soundtracks more because it support the story better than any other ME ever did IMO.
The ambience has a name. jack Wall.
ME3 is fine too, but the whole game is different.. and I think they got a score to match it. I just wish they didn't try to be different to begin with.
Music has always been one of Bioware's strong points, so I'll probably be happy regardless. I am a bit partial to ME2 but probably more because that game has left the most positive impression on me.
I was always left disappointed by ME 2's soundtrack- Not because it is a bad soundtrack because it is not, It disappointed me because it sounds like every other soundtrack out there while ME 1 has a soundtrack that sounds unique and has more identity.
The only music I actually remember from any of the ME games is the club music in Afterlife, downstairs, ME2 ... and that wasn't even written for the game.
i cannot distinquish any ME from 1 to 3 for its soundtrack.
All 3 of them are burnt into my aural memory.
and i am glad they are.
DAMN that suicide mission gve me goosebumps for the gazzilionth time
The music in Mass Effect 1 is beyond perfection. Whenever I hear it I feel something else
