Installation Options on Consoles for ME:A?

So I was installing Halo 5 last week (Don't judge, I will repent I promise) and noticed that the installation folder is 56gb which is almost as big as the entire re-mastered Halo collection (1 - 4) preceding it (60gb) and thought to myself - that's a lot of uncompressed audio hogging up my HDD space because textures and animations are pretty much the same (it re-uses a ton of assets) and there's not much content compared to say GTA 5 which is in that ball park. Second thought was I bet Andromeda will be way bigger with the amount of audio dialogue required for different languages. Especially considering that 2 & 3 already required two DVDs.

Fallout 4 is not exactly a looker but it's about half the size of Halo 5 so maybe smart design choices could mitigate this issue. But if this isn't the case could we please have installation options on consoles for Andromeda so we don't get these unnecessarily ridiculous file sizes. For example on Xbox one you could have the user install only the installation menu which is almost immediately 'ready to play'. The user then selects the language(s) they want to continue. Perhaps also players who do not want multiplayer could have the option to install later. Thoughts?

Need more information on how big the game is and how they are going to handle buffering and loading.  An install for consoles will probably be required if they are going with seamless loading though.

But again we don't how how well the data compression will be, what the file structure will be like, how Bioware has improved with the Frostbite engine, just don't know enough to say for certain.

Don't think this is going to happen without Sony/Microsoft doing some serious redesign of their consoles. Right now, both consoles require that the games be entirely installed on the HDD. The way I see it, games will just keep getting bigger and bigger. And if this tweet from Chris Wynn is any indication, we are looking at quite the hefty installation time.

Xb1 requires an install, no IFS ands or buts.

Unless you have a 500 gb xb1 you shouldn't even need to worry about storage for 2 or 3 years depending on your number of AAA titles you buy a year. If it is an issue you can buy a 1tb external with a faster load time than a non elite internal for about $50 usd. Unless you wait a fiscal quarter or more you'll spend more on ME:A.

Xb1 uses bluray, ME1, 2, and 3 + their entire DLC can fit on a single standard bluray disk around 40 gb after removing reused assets across both disks for 2 and 3. Depending on the number of bluray layers we can store up to 120 gb on a single disk last checked.

Now does halo utilize the space efficienttly? Maybe not. I haven't data mined and I don't program games so I don't know where all of that data comes into play.

Got a 2tb HDD and I'm already at 23% because game installs are just getting ridiculous with these policies when you consider I have PC & ps4 sharing the load so if I stuck to one platform this gen I'd be screwed.

Both PS4 and XB1 were intended for you to upgrade the memory down the line. PS4 was made to have the internal HDD replaceable and I heard they added the option for external drives. The XB1 after the first post release console update allowed external drives. For both the 500gb drive they originally came packaged with was for more casual gamers who buy or play a few games a year or just to tide someone over until they can upgrade as intended for their console of choice.

If you need to upgrade I would suggest waiting till the 3 times a year (at least for the US) where Hard Drives and fingers crossed soon for Solid State Drives where they go on sale. (beginning of fall and spring college semesters and the holiday season). 2014 Holiday I snagged a 5tb external for my XB1 for $125 USD. And hey the holiday window of sales is just a few weeks away.

If Fallout 4 was about 28-30gb, and they say Mass Effect Andromeda is 4x the size of all other Mass Effect games, I assume around 40-60gb. My PC is fine on storage, and my XB1 boasts about 4tb. So I'm not worried.

I won't worry about it. If space becomes a problem, I just delete some of the games that I haven't played in awhile. No big deal. I don't need to keep stuff on the hard drive if I don't use it
