I know the popular build is to use him with the Reegar but I always end up getting wrecked. Just like my relationships, bad things happen when I get too close. And that's without sync kills.

I know, L2P. But what are some other builds that would be good for long distance combat? Harrier? Lancer? GPS?

Well, the whole Point with the Krogan Warlord is to be in Close range with melee attacks and the hammer.

If you want to fight from a longer distance then I would suggest just playing Another kit that does the job way better (pretty much all other kits).

The Krolord is probably the most difficult kit to play on platinum (and to some extent on gold) as he's just so clunky and slow it's difficult to avoid sync kills.

When I play him on Platinum I only do it if there is a competent Juggernaut in the team, otherwise I wouldn't bother.

Imo it's one of the worst designed kits in the game.

You want a shotgun on him, to equip the omni-blade. Most of the time I use the Venom with the Warlord : charge / run towards your target / release the shot to stagger the enemy / melee. Ah, they're dead ! Well, most of the time.

Make him more mobile and flexible, reduce his physical size.

What would be the point of that- if you're not going to use him as a melee/close-quarters kit, why not just use a different kit? He really offers nothing at long-range- he's slow, unwieldy, and his powers are all for close-range only. May as well use the vanilla Sentinel, or any of the other Krogan. And using the Krolord on Platinum is definitely a bit tricky, but here's a couple suggestions that may help-

1. Abuse inclines/declines- enemies cannot sync you if they are at a different elevation than you. There's a reason people occasionally refer to the Worlard as the "RampLord"

2. Use a stagger weapon (Graal, Venom, GPS, etc.) vs. Cerberus, it all but negates Phantoms. Against Reapers, use a gun with high DPS that can stop the Banshee rush and allow you to melee her- Reegar is the obvious choice as it wrecks shields/barriers, but you could also use something like the Raider, Piranha, Hurricane, etc.

3. Don't take on multiple enemies when there are sync units present- the #1 way I get synced on Platinum with the Warlard is if I get greedy and take on a group of 2 phantoms and 2 dragoons, or 2 brutes and a banshee or whatever.. If you know the enemy sync patterns and you're properly equipped, no single enemy should be able to sync you. But when you start dealing with multiple enemies, that's when you get in trouble.

So, use a good weapon, lure enemies away from the pack, and dominate on ramps/stairs/inclines- should be a start, at least.

He shouldn't be sync-killable.

How would I change him? I would take away the hammer and just give him a straight up baseball bat.

He would be OP.

That he would, possibly they could have balanced it by reducing his damage and making him non sync-killable.

But I would prefer it if they instead made him less clunky and slow, and he should be smaller - the same size as the Kroguard/Krodept would have been much better, as it is now the big ugly thing blocks to much of the screen.

A decent long-range option for him is the Crusader.

If you are having problems with survival close up, I recommend to take all his health-regen options in fitness. This makes him virtually unkillable - if you can keep your rage mode going. I mostly just abuse the running heavy melee glitch to instantly get rage. With a lightweight shotgun, your cooldown on biotic hammer should be around 7.5 seconds with TA on. With SE III, Martial Biotic Amp and two-charge biotic hammer, everything that is not a boss dies in one hammer smash (on gold).

I don't know, he'd still be slow as molasses, and worthless at anything beyond point-blank range.. And would he be any more OP than, say, the QME? Or TGI? Or GI? They also could've reduced the damage of Biotic Hammer to balance it out. But the fact that he can be synced by enemies like Phantoms (who are half his size) is not only completely implausible, it makes him really tricky to play, and all but worthless for newer players (on the higher difficulties, that is).

Or they could've made it so, for him alone of all the kits, sync attacks merely do a set amount of damage, or kill him and allow him to be revived or use gel. Its just laughable that such a huge and ostensibly tanky character, with the background and traits the game ascribes to Krogan, can be killed so easily.

I could have liked this option, since it would have been a new unique characteristic.

That last one.

The beauty of the GPS on the Krogan is that it is not only a great choice for CQC because of the Shotgun Omniblade, but the GPS can still function effectively at range. If you're doing a Hack or for any reason closing distance isn't the best option, the GPS can still allow for decent offense, ammo priming, and even has a mild targeting ability that helps offset lag issues when aiming moderate or long distances.

It can take some getting used to, because it's a charge weapon, but it can be fired with or without charging (similar to the Arc Pistol or Graal.)

I mostly agree with what q5tyhj wrote. Graal, GPS, Claymore or Wraith are the weapons I typically use on him, the latter two with choke and either AP or drill ammo. All of those will give you at least some capacity for fighting at range, but the objective has to be to close to melee as soon as possible -- that's what the Krolord is for and why I'll always use a shotgun omni blade with him.

Brutes probably get the most sync kills against me with the Krolord because once they show up in packs it's hard to ignore how fast the first one or two will die and easy to forget how little time it takes for them to grab you. But it's the vulnerability to sync kills that makes playing this character so much fun for me; it's that constant dance on the edge that I enjoy.

How would I change him? I'd make him roughly the same size as the adept/vanguard model, let him take cover, let him hop half cover, and either buff electric hammer or swap it out for something/anything that would at least tempt me not to skip it. Maybe a grenade power or reave, or if that would be too powerful, then maybe some other power with a short cooldown that you could see some utility out of three levels in, like lash or stasis. As it is, EH is completely overshadowed by BH and using both weakens the build unnecessarily, while nerfing BH would proportionately reduce the Krolord's only real strength.

I prefer to call him the StairMaster.

Anyway, the one suggestion I have for the Warlord is to use an Adrenaline Mod.  I see everyone running around with a Cyclonic, and I'm not sure I understand why.  His health regen is his real strong suit for survivability, and a Cyclonic doesn't really affect that.  You just need to maintain enough DR so that the damage all the enemies are doing is roughly equal to his health regen rate, and he's pretty much impossible to kill.  Having an Adrenaline Mod will help you get out of the line of fire when the real heavy hitters start firing on you (Primes, Scions, Ravagers, etc.), which is how I seem to die the most as a Warlord.

Then again, I never use him on Platinum, so this may not work on that level.  It's really hard to die to enemy small-arms fire as the Warlord on Gold if you play it right.  It may be different on Platinum, where everything does more damage.

I second this:  The GPS is typically my weapon of choice on the Warlord.  The only other guns that I like on him are the Venom, the Crusader, and maybe the Graal (if on host).

EDIT:  This is the build I usually use.  Disruptor Ammo may seem funny on him at first, but it really works well.  It gives you a good option for stripping shields, and it makes it really easy to kill mooks at longer ranges.  If you're playing Collectors, you may want to switch to Warp Ammo.

Yeah, I quoted myself...just thought a little more about the baseball bat idea...that means no biotic or electric hammer powers...

To replace them I would have 1 power where you walk up behind an enemy..hit the button..which taps them on the shoulder..as they turn around..bash em across the face...

The other power I call "Bonds" ...  hit the button..KroLord injects himself with steroids..goes into a full wind up...catapulting the enemy into space.......

There are only two Worlard builds: Pyjack Build, and Pure Krogan build.

Make your choice.

Wraith or Piranha are probably my favorites for him.  Disciple if you want absolute fastest cooldowns.  Gun is secondary to melee though.
