In truth the Tabris family in their own way seem to qualify as that. As presented the worst thing you can say about them is that they have a cousin who enjoys getting a little tipsy at parties and I'll measure that against "they were the biggest obstacle to the creation of Ferelden" any day. There's no hint that the mother was guilty of anything except defying a discriminatory law against elves carrying weapons, they're rich enough to excite the envy of spiteful neighbours and the most likely characterization of the protagonist is "Goes around, tells esteem-boosting stories to children and gives money to beggars and distant relatives in financial straits on their wedding day". Whereas the most likely characterization of the Human Noble is "possibly bitches about the responsibility they've been given before a having a one-night stand with the son or the maid of a visitor". When I was playing Tabris my primary concern was, "Can I impose on my father to put her up or should I give her enough money to get the whole family to Highever?". When I was playing Cousland, my primary concern was "Is there any way I can get them both in bed at the same time?"

Well everyone play their character differently.
I never allowed my canon to sleep with Iona or anyone.
He was rised to be dutiful not a promiscuos boy

Well what with the purge and plague, bribing their way makes a certain amount of sense.

Actually this takes place before the planned wedding.. Nesiara's parents is to proud to ask for help and  Nessa (Nesiara's sister) doesn't want to go Ostagar because of the human soldiers so in my games  Tabris (Tidus)  gives her 10 silvers so Nesiara's   family can stay in Denerim..

But by the time you've checked on them again there's been a purge and a plague.  In fact the purge started right after the aborted wedding.  Using the money to vacate to Highever would be their smartest course of action.

I give Tabris (aka Tidus) betrothal's family enough money to stay in Denerim only to find out later they left the Alienage..

When I return to the Alienage  I stopped at home and spoke to Soris  in order to find out what was going on. You will need to ask him questions.

I found this in my first play through while looking for Shiani since the last I saw of her before leaving with Duncan she was in the house.

At that point of the game I often wondered what Leliana  thought when I ask about Nesiara.

I thought Nessa was presented in the Origin as a childhood friend of the City Elf rather than being related to his betrothed?  (I could be wrong, it's been awhile since I played the male CE Origin, but that's what I recall from my female CE... though now you're making me want to replay her Origin, too.)

It's not a close relationship. Not even as close as Shianni.  Not close enough to preclude your suggesting that Nessa could become a replacement wife although he reacts poorly to the suggestion.  But if you badger your father into taking Nessa in he does indicate there's some kind of familial relationship.  But given what City Elves are like that could mean 4th or 5th cousin.

That I can understand, but I thought you were talking about Nessa as though she were Nesiara's sister, which is why I'm confused.  I thought Nesiara was from Highever originally and her family used the dowry money sent by Tabris' father to get her back there?  But like I said, it's been awhile since I played the male CE origin and I don't think I've gotten much beyond Ostagar with that playthrough anyway, so you could be right.

"distant relative".

In the PS3 and XBOX 360 DR:O ( this version was a gift) Nessa is  Nesiara's sister unless the PC game is different from the two versions  I have.  She approaches you after you talk to Nesiara's parents.

Maybe I missed a possible conversation?  I'll check that out tomorrow with  what I call a test game -a game I start and then delete because I didn't like the character.

Going to do a test game right now myself so I can check this out.  (Yay for having an excuse to play with new CC mods too!)

Wow! What a nice little side story.. Thanks for pointing this out. I had to learn not to go to Soris first though. LOL.

I didn't find a option for marrying Nessa instead of Nesiara. I use my PS3 version of DA:O for this test.

My thoughts on the family part is Nessa is family by marriage she becomes Tabris  Sister -In-Law after the wedding..Recalling this is before Vaughn showed his ugly mug and started ruining everything. I always liked the way Shianni owned Vaughan when she whacks him with that jug even though it was a little rash much like when Tabris faced  Duncan with nothing more then bare fist and maybe still steaming about Vaughan earlier interference.. Maybe  hotheaded rash behavior runs in the family?

Now with that said and IMHO I would my character marry Nessa because I think she a tad better looking then her sister Nesiara.

I just confirmed that in the PC version, Nessa and Nesiara are not stated to be sisters.  My CE gave ten silvers to Nessa so her parents could afford to stay in Denerim where, in his words, "you belong."  However, when I talked to Nesiara during the final events of the Origin, she mentioned that her family would be taking her back to Highever with the dowry money Tabris' father paid them.

In other words, the PC version doesn't say anything explicitly about Nessa and Nesiara being related, either to confirm or deny it, but the impression I got was that they weren't.  But I guess that's what headcanons are for. :D

If my laptop wasn't a weak antique I would probably buy a PC version of the game.

At any rate I wonder if I was helping Nessa or unknowingly leading a lamb to slaughter in the purge, plague and the slavers?  Her parents went to Ostagar--not sure what happens to them there..

Maybe I should play this game through later and see what happens on the return to the Alienage.  I know if I give them 10 silvers they return to Highever  because I've done that in all my CE games.

The PS3 and XBOX 360 version Nesiara doesn't mention going back to Highever. IMHO the main conversation between Tabris and Nesiara is way to short for the plan wedding story line.

 Roughly:

Nesiara: Your father says you will become a Grey Warden.

Tabris.. I'll be back for you.

Nesiara: No you won't. Gray Wardens aren't allowed to have families. Be safe out there and she walks off screen.

That's about how it is on PC, too, except that one of the options also leads to a discussion of where Nesiara plans to go.

Out of curiosity I did the CE start on my XBOX 360  and it was about the same except the character's ID sign said "Nessa's father" and a tad more investigation of the discussion it seems they lost their house in the Alienage and wanted to go to Highever instead of Ostagar and it seems without the needed coin for bribing the humans  Ostagar was their only choice. It appears Nessa is related to Tabris but, unlike Shianna she never calls him cousin.

Before leaving to deal with Vaughn I talk to the Alienage Elder and ask why he changed the time of the wedding. Another thing I didn't know and I never rush through a game.

I try not to rush through either, but when I restarted my playthrough as an F!Tabris I discovered there was a lot more I could have asked Duncan.  I think a lot of the dialogue options depend on how much cunning you have or how many points you have in coercion.

Personally, i like Cousland, they are nice people, they are noble but they are not arrogant, they treat other peoples well. They are loyal and will do their duty to the best they can. No one have a reason to hate the Cousland. I personally think the Cousland will be better royals than Tehirin line. Well look at Cailan and Alistair...

But it is an irony isn't it?

That's why both a Cousland and an Therin sits on the throne of Ferelden in my canon (and that's why my Cousland loves, loves Alistair. He's a adorable fool, she loves those types)

Human Commoner should be farmers, traders, merceneries, bandits...not an interesting origin

Human itself is "Mary Sue" in this game

That's what Hawke was.. and it was far more interesting. Apostate and Rogue especially. Then Loghain before this.

I don't think Hawke is interesting...for many reasons.

Look at Kirkwal, maybe the Red Iron is a big mercenery organization, but just that, we see nothing bad or good about them, the only considered to be evil quest is killing Lord Harriman, but that not necessarily making Red Iron is evil organization.

But look at Dwarven carta...we see them first hand in DA:O, and if play as Dwarf Commoner we get into detail about them. dwarven caste system is also an interesting background for establish a story about a regular Dwarf, a castless in a city run by caste hideous system.

Human is somehow presented in positive light in this game, not so good but not so bad either. Human bandits are just bandits, like we see in Lothering and Denerim, they are all just bandits. They are not necessarily a product of the human society, but they are a product of current world situation, the war and The Blight.

In other way, Dwarven carta is a product of their society...

I seldom not like a character in a RPG but, I really don't like male Hawke. I think that's due to all of that needless shouting during battle like "Follow my lead!" "To far!" etc,etc.. At times I think I bought DA:2 only because its a second game in the DA series.

Heh. I like sarcastic female Hawke. I've tried a diplomatic playthrough once and I got bored by it.
