Personally, i like Cousland, they are nice people, they are noble but they are not arrogant, they treat other peoples well. They are loyal and will do their duty to the best they can. No one have a reason to hate the Cousland. I personally think the Cousland will be better royals than Tehirin line. Well look at Cailan and Alistair...
But it is an irony isn't it?
That's what makes them Mary Sues. They're all virtues with no flaws. All beloved with no dislike or indifference directed at them. They have all the perks associated with playing a noble (rich, powerful, respected, beloved, etc) with none of the flaws (arrogance, haughtiness, and/or political power-playing that is in the game has).
I'm sorry, but that's not realistic. NO ONE is that perfect. NO ONE is that universally praised and beloved and worshiped by everyone, everywhere, all the time. (They rival Bella Swan from Twilight in how often people trip over themselves to sing their praises.)
And there's no "irony" that the Couslands "turn out" to be better royals than the Theirins; in keeping up with Mary Sue tradition, several characters praise them up and down for being so perfect and wonderful, and hint that they're even better candidates to be king than the actual royal family. (Like Mama Cousland's introductory line, "And then he mistook my husband for the king! Can you imagine?" and Darrin saying, "Some wanted your father to be king more than Cailan.") I m
There should have been a human commoner origin or something like the dwarf commoner one but for a human char
They were going to make a human commoner origin, but cancelled it when they realized it was too boring.
You were going to play a poor farmer in Redcliffe who was in debt to Dwyn (the dwarven sellsword) and had to sell your sister into marriage to save the family farm. Then Duncan arrived, disaster struck, yadda yadda yadda.
They said they realized it was very underwhelming; that originally they loosely based the the poor farmer learning of the darkspawn and leaving with Duncan to fight the Blight it after Luke Skywalker learning of the Force and leaving with Ben to fight the Empire; but somehow the story remained bland and uninteresting, and they realized the story only worked if you were a "chosen one" (the way Luke was the "last of the Jedi"), but there is no "chosen one" this story, so it just kept not working until they had to cut it.
Not to mention the "story" didn't have anything to offer that you couldn't experience with a city elf (being a poor Ferelden peasant with an arranged marriage) or the dwarf commoner origin (being poor in debt to a dwarven bastard like Beraht or Dwyn, having a sister who has to save the family with what's between her legs), both of which had their own interesting cultures to show off, so they figured people could play the city elf or dwarf commoner if they wanted a commoner background.
Of course, they underestimated just how dedicated many players are to playing only humans. People would rather play a human noble than a city elf or dwarf commoner, then complain about the lack of an "underdog" option.

Yep. It was boring, that's why they canceled it.
Human itself may be "Mary Sue" this game, it's true, but let's be honest: the Couslands have a double-quarter extra helping.

And...that ain't true. The other nobles note the death of the Couslands but without any particular agitation. It's just an item on the list of suspicious circumstances surrounding Loghain's ascension. A couple of people acknowledge the Human Noble's status when it is brought up and show a bit of deference.

*grabs popcorn* Was wondering when Shiara would be back. This thread was getting boring.
People are just hating on the Couslands because they work hard and reap the benefits.
Eleanor was sinking Orlais war vessels with her own ship when she was 15.
What did the other mothers do? Get drunk, thrown into dungeons, die?

It is a good "Mary Sue" for me, it is because they are representing the good side nobles, we have irredemeable bad one that is Howe. The hatred on Howe will be less meaningful if the Cousland is no better than Howe isn't it?
And we also have not so good nobles of other race, the Dwarves. So Cousland being the only "Mary Sue" is fine by me, it will be boring if Cousland is no better than any power grabing, double crossing, and scheming nobles already existing in the game.
Let Cousland be Cousland as they are, don't change them into the same level as any nobles in DA universe, let them be "Mary Sue", let them be the example of "there are still better uncorrupted nobles in the world not like any other"

No - Couslands in themselves could've been wiped out. And yet you choose to think their Mary Sues when they could have a bad members of the their family - who was blocked from the history books - keep in mind the Cousland's are an old family, you may never know just becuase they never dicuss it...

How nice, the Howe ancestors also betrayed Flemeth and ruined her life if i recall,it must be their hobby to betray everyone!
I love Arle Howe and was sad there was no option to spare him.
As a player my Cousland didn't cared about his parents because you know they died before i was even introduced to them....

Is that the case? I thought Conobar betrayed Flemeth. He ruled Highever before the Couslands ages ago, but I don't know if he's related to Howe? Cousland was the captain of his guard, I think.. and took over after Conobar died.

The Eltsi family was close to the Howe family,i think they were cousins that is why Rendon Howe is also mad at the COuslands because in his mind they stole something that was of his family since the times of Connobar and that they were the heir of HIghever not a captain of the guard who started the Cousland legacy.

Well, I don't like Rendon Howe, but Nathaniel is one of my favorite characters.

I suspect she was a badass. Because Lady Aeducan is still able to be a commander...err.. and I thought females are shaped by the same sex parent or something.

Family, Simple.. Nathaniel wasn't guilty of anything other then "woe is my family" and he never carried out his plan to kill my warden. Had he attempted to act out his plan he would have met the same fate as Vaughan,Howe and Loghain and the last thing he would see was those hate filled green eyes just before his death just like the others.
BTW. And its not a rule.. Its a judgment call.

Lady Aeducan is wearing her grandmother armor, i think it's legit...maybe for the royalty, both are from some class making male and female carry on their caste
