Still wish we would have got a Skyhold not a dump DLC.

They've blamed last gen consoles for the lack of Skyhold content, I believe. Though that might have been a response to the question of why Skyhold was never attacked by Cory's army, rather than upgrading the keep fully.

That was why the attack on Crestwood by Red Templars was cancelled.

However, there are a number of NPCs around Skyhold who make it pretty clear that attacking the fortress would be a pretty dumb idea for Corypheus. It is isolated, sturdy, and surrounded by an empty expanse that makes a sneak attack by dragon damn near impossible.

Infiltration would be a better bet. He could easily sneak a handful of assassins into the fortress.

The devs explicitly said last gen canceled the Crestwood features that had leaked, and some of the other engine limitations. But from the below quote, it sounds like Bio didn't even bother trying to make Skyhold relevant to gameplay:

From Kotaku Asks (Dragonage devs):

user:

"Were there ever any plans for Skyhold to be attacked during the game? It seems a lot of "fixing up" the keep is geared towards that. Any chance that any DLC will involved the stronghold of the Inquisition being directly attacked at Skyhold like what happened at Haven?"

Mark Darrah:
"Actually, we never did plan that (performance concerns) but it would have been nice to play with your toy, wouldn't it?"

For some reason when I read this I heard Todd Howard shaking his head and rolling his eyes.

Bioware should have their motto with those words. For a development team they seem to say that or, "We ran out of time" a very frequent response to such questions.

I know they are done with DAI now and nothing else will be coming.  But it still bugs me to no end that Skyhold stays such a dump throughout the whole game...

Why? The story successfully moves past Skyhold with Trespasser. The point wasn't to rebuild Skyhold, it was to kick Corypants in the Corynads.

I mean, I respect Bioware as a company with lots of great concepts and plans, and most of what's on paper seems really great. It's just a shame that the nature of the game industry (and the real world) requires corners to be cut and plots to be dropped. And sometimes the resource management within Bioware makes no sense to me, so important sections of the game are weakened (cough the end of the base game cough) and less important areas remain (f*cking shards and the Oasis).

Considering that the inquisition requires the inquisitor to personally pluck out elfroots from the wilderness in order to make some slight improvements to a simple garden, I think you've exaggerated the resources that the inquisition has!

Well you could also send your men to pick those elfroots. Problem is they are total slackers, who probably take a hour-long casual walk through the wilderness and pluck about 5 Elfroot in total, which the Inquisitor and party manage in  about 40 seonds.

Don't be so hard on them!  It's hard work drinking Pina Coladas and (trying) to tan in the Fereldan sun while looking around for the most common weed in Thedas.

[Sarcasm fully intended]
