Engineer with Slam in ME2, but Engineer, Infiltrator, or Sentinel in ME1?

I am currently planning my next few trilogy playthroughs.

For one Shepard, I plan to play as an Engineer with Slam in ME2. In case you are curious, here is the planned ME2 build (I have tested it out before);

1 - Overload

0 - Incinerate

4 - Attack Drone

4 - Full Cryo Blast

4 - Improved AI Hacking

4 - Mechanic

4 - Crippling Slam

But I am having trouble deciding which class Shepard should be in ME1 first:

 - Engineer with Lift

 - Infiltrator with Lift

 - Sentinel (probably with AI Hacking as a bonus power, or maybe a second weapon)

I think I should stick with the Engineer to be consistent, but...

 - Engineer is probably my least favorite class in ME1.

 - The Infiltrator has Electronics and Decryption for unlocking, is more durable with Medium armor and Immunity, and I generally do not miss Hacking or Neural Shock.

 - Sentinel is already the combined Tech+Biotic hybrid, and has Lift (sort of like slam). It has Electronics and Decryption for unlocking. I could take Hacking as the bonus power, or a second weapon as a bonus power since Sentinel can only get Basic Marksman.

What do you people think?

Well I guess you should play what you're most comfortable with. If you don't like Engineer in ME1, then you can go with Sentinel, even though a Lift Engineer sounds quite exciting. But then I liked playing Engineer in ME1, haha.

Don't know about Infiltrator as I didn't play that class yet (this is up next for me after my Soldier run :D). But looking at the talents, and if you don't miss Hacking or Neural Shock (liked them both tbh), then the Infiltrator is a good option as well.

I think for this I'd probably favour Sentinel then because the biotic abilities are already there, as you said. Not sure if this will help you with your decision, but yeah, Sentinel with Hacking would be my choice I guess :) (Same applies to Stasis Engineer then.)

When I first opened the topic, I was going to recommend Engineer w/ Lift just for consistency, but since you don't like the character it looks like that is probably out already.

In that case, the next I would pick would be AR or SG Sentinel.

I always tend to play Infiltrator more like soldier than Engineer, and in some ways I probably find Sentinel a little more fun.  Lift Infiltrator would be powerful, but most of the time I like to take advantage of the heat bonuses to let me play with essentially a higher ROF sniper which is somewhat unique to the class.  Lift wouldn't exactly prevent that, but it is more irritating to aim the rifle when too many things are floating around.

The only other thing that I might add is that since Slam's lift duration is so short, perhaps Throw in ME1 is an even closer analogue.

You may as well go with Sentinel if you don't like Engineer.

Sentinel if you value the ability to equip biotic amps for the bonuses, otherwise I'd go Engineer.

If you're on PC , you might want to "build" your own class by adding talents via console commands.
I did something like that with my Vanguard-Adept hybrid "custom class".

I am on Xbox so I do not have that option. And Vanguard with Singularity is pretty much an Adept anyway.

For the record, I went with the Engineer class in ME1, (likely) despite my better judgement.

I'm not comfortable with changing classes during the save import either. Every character from my nine trilogy runs had the same class from ME1 to ME3.

I have changed classes a few times during some imports.

I had one Infiltrator in ME1 change to an Engineer in ME2, (I specced the Infiltrator like an Engineer, gave it Hacking as a bonus power and specialized into Operative instead of Commando). This was planned.

I had an Engineer in ME1 and ME2 that I switched to an Infiltrator in ME3. This was a late decision. I had the Engineer use Warp in ME1 so I could justify giving it Reave in ME2. With the change to combat mechanics in ME3, using Reave as a defense stripper was no longer viable; I still could have used it for Biotic explosions but the Engineer is better using tech powers instead. So I switched it to an Infiltrator with Flare. Flare infiltrator can be fun.
