In professional wrestling (and other things), there is an intangible "it factor" that is difficult to describe. Some people have it, but most people don't. Even if your skills are just okay, and even if you're not charismatic, you still have a certain presence that makes you explode off the screen and make people gladly pay money to see you. The all-time greats have this. It makes people say "I want to pay attention to this guy".

Once we accept this, most of the debate on this forum can be seen as pointless. You say DA:I didn't have "it," I say it did, and not only do we have absolutely nothing further to say to each other, but also neither Bio nor anybody else ends up with any clue about how to put "it" into their next design.

It could be character design.  DA I had the best cast of characters I have run into in a video game.

Dragon age:I had immense potential a vast world, amazing ideas and on paper it seemed like a dream. But when actually playing it the game felt lack luster. From the graphical issues and rather disappointing performance on the 360 when it first came out I've found myself letting it collect dust. Since then they've released dlc and fixed some of the annoying bugs making the game somewhat tolerable I've given it another try. However I've tried twice now and can't complete the game. It truly lacks that special something that the first game and dare I even say the second had. I'm not the worlds largest fan of Dragon Age 2 but the dlc and the story wasn't the worst. At least I could get into the lore revealed, the story line and enjoy myself. With the third it's like they tossed a bunch of great ideas together stuck them together with glue and kinda of said here. So it doesn't feel as complete and it feels like it's too pulled apart. I don't know just what it is.

It feels like an mmo with a vast open world but it lacks meaningful reason to explore it or missions that actually make me happy I completed them. Side stories, lore, something worth doing. Like a wana be skyrim but not quite as good. Like to be fair if I wanted to play either an mmo or skyrim I'd play them. The reason I had faith and trust in dragon age was because it was who it was. It had it's own identity, it didn't try to be like other games; it was it's own game. I'd go into places like gamestop or ask others if they knew games like dragon age and it was hard to get an answer because the series was that good and had it's own brand recognition among the big players. Like hearing Dragon Age just felt like this is gonna be another 'Good game' and then we got this.

Just as many have said in this topic it is definitely missing content and although the quality looks decent the quantity of stuff to do seems rather dull in comparison to the other two games. I feel bad for hating on it, as it seems to have so much it could have done and the way it could have gone but I just can't pull myself together to finish it because it feels like it is lacking something. Aside from that empty feeling from the main character and lack luster followers bad romances and less memorable story I'd say that they either rushed to present us with it or kind of stopped caring along the way; you can see the ups and downs of quality within the games story. I can only hope the DLC makes up for it; from what I read it seems like it did but that's not really a good thing either; relying on extra purchasing content to make a game worth playing...

I might try again in a few weeks but I really don't see the point. As god awful as the second one was or as bad a rep it got. Hawke had something about him that made him either appealing or hated. I would gladly go back to the time that we didn't have a voice for our hero and it was just choices so long as we get that old content. I feel like DA:O was the best of the three and felt so much more in depth with the story, the side quests the hidden fun treats you got and so much more time was focused on the story and not wasted on voice over work or making a big beautiful world with nothing in it. Like as vast as DA:I is, DA:O was a nice size too but used every inch to it's full potential and felt like each play through had meaning and a new feel to it.

Even DA2 gave you a different feel the second time around; perhaps not the third but at least you got 2 play through minimum out of DA2 and if you were a real fan a dozen or two out of DA:O. It may just be me, but I feel DA:I was and is a game that some might struggle through or find a bit more tedious and on the lower quality of the series. Now I'm not saying the game is trash because by normal game standards Bioware is pretty professional and all their games even the bad ones can reach GOTY status but this one. I would say Bioware needs to go play their old games and try to remember what about them was good, what was enjoyable and try to recreate that for DA4 because with DA:I the game was a huge hit or miss. It almost feels like they tried to target an entirely different audience with each game and it progressively got worse. I'm all for change but I prefer good change and loyalty. If I helped the company buying every DLC for DA1 DA2 ME2 ME3 then the least I expect is some loyalty in return to keep it somewhat the same so I can enjoy it.

If it isn't broke why fix it. Yet instead we got a mesh of the two games they already had with some new features; not all bad, but too spread apart. I don't know perhaps I'm ranting and just hating hard core. But there is a lot wrong with this one and I hope the fourth doesn't get worse but the fix it. All I can pray for is they don't repeat w.e they did with this combat system and the terrible leveling system with the enemies. If I have to fight another damn bear for 5 minutes because of scaled health instead of making it more challenging I don't think I will pick up another Day one game from this series; if at all. Maybe it's just best if we all start buying the pc version at least if that feels like it's missing content or quality mods can be placed in to make up for what the game is missing initially. Sorry Bioware but DA:I was a miss IMHO.

Dragon age Origins: 10/10

Dragon age 2: 6/10

Dragon age Inquisition (3)/10

Given I have yet to complete it I put this in () to be fair as it may change one day but for now it's pretty low. I was more satisfied with ME3 had a better ending for the series and lets be honest -.- it was bs and a let down. Even the fan theory of indoctrination was better and believable with the ending where you see the chest breathing in rubble.

I find the choices and diversity in Dragon Age: Inquisition to be the most diverse I've ever played. I had 4 playthroughs sprinkled with so many variables that it was a treat everytime. Definitely my favorite game of 2014, and even 2015 (Since I didn't technically play it til 2015.....) And I wish more RPGS were this immersive.

I think my biggest problem with DA:I was that I consider DA:O to be my standard for the franchise. Because of this, DA:I felt inconsistent and its priorities felt skewed. What got me through the game and allowed me to enjoy it was resisting the urge to think of it as a Dragon Age game. That way, it basically just felt like a solo WoW adventure with some war table goodies.

But once I finished my first (and only) playthrough, I felt kind of cheated. My role as the Inquisitor felt inconsequential. My party members picked fights with me for the stupidest reasons, not because they thought anything about my leadership style. Nobody really grew or changed in any way, and talking to them was barely worth the effort because it took so long to navigate Skyhold and find everyone. Nothing I did at the war table ultimately meant anything. Skyhold was nothing more than a glorified Sims mansion, and for all the talk about how defensible it was and how much effort we needed to make sure our forces were ready to defend it against attack, there was no attack (unless you count the Avaar with the goats). The lore was inconsistent, and many of the plot elements didn't make sense.

The biggest disparity for me, though, was the fact that it always felt like I was playing a game. There was none of the immersion that I felt with DA:O. In DA:O, I was viscerally nervous about making major decisions, I felt actual remorse for killing people who didn't need to be killed, and I legitimately fell in love with Alistair. But in DA:I, I always addressed decisions with "this will make for better gameplay" rather than "this is a better decision to help the world/my friends/whatever".

Also, Varric never showed up at my endgame celebration. Jerk :(

Love is too strong a word. I enjoyed it, had some great moments but not enough to give it that praise. I've re-played it a few times though and that's mainly down to the companions. My favourite ensemble to date.

Hmm hard to say, I did not enjoy it as much as Origins.

I felt like there was more character costumization in terms of play style and skills in origins.

For example: Arcane warrior, shapeshifter.

                      Ranger, bard.

I dont know why these all have been removed. But i miss them. I didn't feel special in inquistion even as a specialized character none of the skill feel special and realy diffrent.. just basic, do you know what I am saying(Butters)? also I find the more complex tactic system in origins better than in inquistion. but I like the action gameplay in inquisition better.

I loved inquisition for its social interaction with the companions and its story (although inquisitions ending felt a bit rushed) I find almost equal to origins. I loved that it was not about the wardens this time. Also being the leader of an army instead of a small group and having your own hold feels great. War table and skyholds costumization were awesome. And the maps felt vibrant enough to do a completionist run. But where are the healers? you can fill your bags with over 60 swords and bows and shield but you can only carry 12 potions? realy? just keep the healing system.

Im not going to discuss DA:2 since I personally didnt find the game that special. Felt like a "we are going to try something diffrent this time, they will buy it anyways so dont do too much about it"

DA:O - 10/10

DA 2 - 6/10

DA: I  - 8/10

For DA4 im hoping to see some more specialized characters with cool skills that feel diffrent from the "normal" tree specs.. also i hope they bring back healers.. for the rest i like the way inquisistion is working. crafting can be made a tad harder so you dont run around all overpowered early in the game though. also if you build up an army let us atleast use in a awesomely big battle otherwise dont let us build it in the first place

I can keep typing forever but I will stop.

I have yet to complete this one, which is weird but i lose interest after haven. Never had this happen with the other two, i prefered dao companions alot more although i like solas's story. Although DA2 had reused areas i vastly liked hawke over the inquisitor too

PC port was designed by someone who could not have understood what he was doing, did not have sufficient time to do even a halfway middling job, or both.

Worst movement controls for KB+M of any game I've played.

Now if we are handing out ratings I would...

DA I Tier 1/ 0 game.

DA 2: Tier 2

DA A: Tier 3

DA O: Tier 3.

one being the highest and five being the lowest.

Inquisition was my first game so I didn't really have much to compare it to. But in all honesty it's not really a bad game or a good one either really.

The cast, the beautiful environments, the additions to the lore are all among the things I really liked. (It took me like two playthroughs to start appreciating the lore bit tho)

On the other hand though, the pacing, the bugs, the abundance of filler content (I mean I'm here to save the world not steal grandpa's hidden treasure like a petty thief) were things I disliked.

It's still fun to play once you level your expectations but it could be a better game too.

DAI is weird. It's high notes were all pretty amazing, and it's low notes were all pretty terrible, and mostly it was a mixed bag that fell somewhere in the middle and never quite left it's own nondescript quality limbo.

Overall I'd say it's slightly above average, infinitely better than most games on the market now which are generally banal garbage, but perhaps not a true competitor with the true greats either.

Like, when I play ME it changes me, I feel something, I think about it. When I play DAO it changes me and I think about it, and hell, even when I play DA2. When I play Unreal, or Shadows of Darkness, same thing. But Inquisition never quite made it to that level for me, it lacks the je ne sais quoi that made those others so special and memorable, as a whole it never left a lasting mark. It was good, and I enjoy it, and I've beaten it multiple times and probably will again, but still.

It does have it's gems, though. Like anything with Cass and Iron Bull, I could seriously hang them forever. Heh

DAI is one of Bioware's best (ever) and a game they really needed to remind us they can still operate at the top of their craft.  Easily Bioware's best Dragon Age game in my book.  No game is perfect or flawless, but DAI has less than any other comparable game I can think of.

TL;DR (will try and go back later and finish the next 7 pages.)

I may have a fresh perspective, we will see (This said without actually completing the main storyline and the DLC even though I have 361 hour on record)

Pros:

Massive world to explore

Facial animations are top notch

Characters are completely believable and not generic/exceptional voice acting

Extensive crafting system and the ability to min max and I see fit/the way stats were done

Not being overwhelmed by 12 abilities (out of like a possible 24) I want to use but always seem to forget to everytime

Skill Trees (especially the fact that passives give attributes as well as a boon)

Special shout out to In Hushed Whispers/Champions of the Just/In Your Heart Shall Burn

Not being able to solo this game 1/4 of the way through the main storyline on Nightmare

Shards and Astrarium! (I must be the only one alive who loves this part of the game)

Skyhold

War Table

Growing from being a prisoner who has just come out of unconsciousness to being someone who has "half of Thedas" to worry about.

Cons

Not as immersive as I would have liked (maybe just a bit too bright and cheery?)

Having to walk around a mountain to walk up a path (Don't get me wrong I like that there is elevation in the game)

Every noble from Val Royeaux is wearing the same god awful outfits

Clipping and standing on invisible ground

Weird, unnatural body posture for some NPCs

When starting a new game from scratch I had to use the default world state because I couldn't figure out how to fix it (Gahhh!!! can't tell you how annoying that is, now 60 hour in and I can't change it... damn it all to hell!)

Conclusion

The cons are more hard hitting than I like, but overall the pros win by a landslide both because the pros are things that were completely unexpected or just hit me at one point or another, and they just make this a great game. Lots more I can say about this game that I think are neutral ie. perks, codex, customizing Skyhold, mounts ect.

How it compares

I will admit to not playing much of DA:II, but as far as DA:O goes, I think it is a vast improvement while losing some key elements from that game. That is saying a lot considering that I actually finish very few big titles and I actually got a couple completionist playthroughs with DA:O. Things are much more vibrant which is both a pro and con compared to DA:O. DA:O is a game that has huge sentimental value to me for the part of my life I was playing it, but that aside I am someone who is not overly sentimental and so I do not necessarily "expect" anything in a franchise game from one to another. I mean take Oblivion and Skyrim. Skyrim is completely different, but Skyrim blows Oblivion out of the water if for nothing else than for mods. That is pretty much how I feel about DA:O to DA:I

Greatest storytelling in all of Bioware games.

Great plots and lore.

Shitty sidequests, grinding, pointless backtracking, fillers, repetitive combats.

Overall I liked DAI if only for its stories.

Compared to other games like Witcher 3 or the, finally, on PC released Dragon's Dogma, it's only average.

Origins is still my favorite DA game and the RPG with the most playthroughs. Second is Inquisition. DA:2 is the last, because it is a, in my opinion, one of the worst RPGs on the market.

No, it was a big disappointment in every aspect for me. Most of the LI options are terrible and unfair, try too hard to be PC ruining the lore and avoid hard topics, no complex AI's orders, the story is short, the villain is too bland and one dimensional, the quests are tedious. Collecting shards are a waste of time and nothing than to artificially inflate the game time instead of drawing in the player to do quests. The sidequests are boring and uninspiring, the world map needs to scale to your level more, no point in revisit old place when you can one hit kill everything, boring as well especially when you're forced to collect shards in those places. The mobile Free to Play war table is stupid, having to wait for mission to finish.
