Well, different people like different kinds of stories and characters.

I don't need to feel that whatever my character does shakes up the world or anything. I'm totally fine with starting as Private A-hole and ending the game as Sergeant A-hole, so to say.

I didn't like DA2 because the story and most of the characters did nothing for me. For me personally, the game fell flat during the prologue and never quite recovered from that. I couldn't stand Anders, Fenris and Merrill who all seemed to be in dire need of therapy. I didn't care about the qunari and never understood why they somehow ended up being my problem. The plot only continued because the game forced me to do certain quests that neither me as a player nor Hawke as my (sort of...) character had any motivation to do (Shepherding Wolves, ugh).

I wouldn't say Hawke was a failure or anything. For me, Hawke was just kinda there.

They do need therapy and that's why they're so much more intriguing.

Like what Varric did, he skipped all the boring bits. No, I want to see it all!... A Surival DA game would be amazing to be honest,..

You have got to be kidding me...

Definitely yes. I'll be the first to say that the main story was rather short (albeit with some truly epic scenes) and it only felt longer because of some... not so much fun fetch quests (I'm looking at you, stupid Druffalo. >.>) and the War Table, but it doesn't stop me from replaying it whenever the fancy strikes me. :)

Nope, he skipped a two year period after the deep roads expedition. And Varric does tend to skip through the boring bits.

If I were to rate the 3 titles on a personal level:

Dragon Age: Origins - 9/10 - Great game

Dragon Age ][ - 5/10 - Average game

Dragon Age : Inquistion - 8/10 - Good game

Of course he skipped the boring bits. We all do, because they are boring. And turning DA into just another effing survival game?

That's becuase Hawke is a failure. Hawke's whole story always blows up in there faces, like its not very funny. Like going into the Deep Rodes for example. You come in, get gold and get rich and stuff, but that's because of Bartand stealing red Lyrum and locking you into a chamber. That backfires on Merdith, who goes insane cause of the stuff, just like Bartand. Then there's letting Coryphues out of his chamber in a DLC, he comes back as the main Villian in DAI.
Nothing Hawke does matters anyhow. I don't want to be a god. I really don't, I was saying I wanted to be a nobody that worked there butts off (onscreen, not skipping any of there progress to richness. Like what Varric did, he skipped all the boring bits. No, I want to see it all!) to get a position of power. And they literally start out with nothing. No family, no house, just you and yourself doing everything to get money to least afford a tent for yourself. A Surival DA game would be amazing to be honest, and you have plenty of Origns to choose from and the plot is interesting and intense, not filled with rubbish filler quests or powers you have to get, certainly you have to get money to afford shelter, but that's mandoraty.

I'd have to pour a forty for the DA franchise if they ever started going the survival game route, because that'd be a sure fire way to ensure that I never spend any more time with it. I just know that it'll be hours of futzing about alone in the Deep Roads, which sounds as fun as Desert Bus.

(: We barely see what Hawke does those, during those skipped parts. So overall, I wanted to see my Hawke actually working, instead of just skipping over it.

And well, it was just a suggestion. :P And also, how do you suppose they do the not DA game? Do you think they should do another Hawke? Who did nothing worth noting during there jounry? (And it was elven PM in NZ when I wrote that post, so I was tired, too.)

It'd be fun to do a Varric edition of DAI for all those players who don't like the exploring. Cut some maps, turn others into linear corridors, and so forth.

Omg that's a brilliant idea. Varric mode, automatically gather all collectibles, easy combat mode like his scarface joke in DA2

I did this recently with a few mods; full crafting mats, all schematics, tons of gold, no waiting time on the war table. I didn't even bother to collect loot from the things I killed unless it was a dragon or a boss or required for a quest. I just smashed through the main story and companion quests and skipped all the unnecessary guff (which is about 2/3 of the game); it made the game eminently more playable. DAI is proof that sometimes less is more.

Is Hawke a failure, or a survivor?

THe two concepts are not mutually exclusive.

Hawke is destined to fail,  In terms of family, business, even in protecting Kirkwall.  Almost everything Hawke touched turned to ruin.

However, certain playthroughs can ensure Hawke doesn't completely fail.  that a few shreds of his/her life can be salvaged.

I just finished Trespasser for the first time yesterday.

Pre-Trespasser: DAI was a 7/10 game for me, 6/10 if I were feeling really unhappy with it. Long periods of tediousness, an ineffectual main villain, companions who I felt didn't really connect or work well together (thanks, infrequent banter) and a bunch of other complaints that have already been stated a hundred times elsewhere.

Post-Trespasser: At the very least, Trespasser redeems my enthusiasm for the DA setting, though I don't think it quite manages to redeem the entirety of DAI. I still have to slog through eighty hours or so of frequently boring game to get to the good stuff. Trespasser is up there with Citadel as my favorite Bioware DLC, so it at least makes me more firm in my 7/10.

Anyway i was wondering: whats the consensus on Da:I. now that the game is finished?
Do you love it?
Where do you stack this game?
Is this a "bioware" game?

Pesonally i love this game.

I like it. I'm conflicted. After all the patches and finally getting the dlcs (also back on my 2nd pt), I can say it's definitely a lot more fun now. I just play with level scaling, wish xp gain was even faster. I'm very conflicted. I really love the core story and companion stuff, but the sidequest slog in those big empty areas is actively a negative to my enjoyment of the game. The more time I spend running around them, the less I like the game. Same with the first two dlcs, wish I could skip to Ameridan right now, for instance. So where it would've been a solid 9.0, I'm inclined to give it a conflicted 7.6 or so overall. Also, love the crafting, but the menus put me to sleep. Too compartmentalized, I can't reorder them, no quick comparisons during crafting. I come back to it because I want to play the different permutations with my worldstates, play most of the romances and all that. And I love creating my characters.  :)

Personally, where does it stack this generation? After Witcher 3, MGS5, Life is Strange, Tales of The Borderlands, Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag, Game of Thrones (Tell Tale), Watch Dogs, and a few games I haven't got to yet, I'm sure. I expect Uncharted 4, Until Dawn, and Arkham Knight to rank in there. The other Tell Tale and Quantic Dream crossgen games, if you want to count them. Detroit is going to be awesome whenever it finally gets here. So like top 12 or 14 pretty quick. Top 15-ish, depending on your criteria. It's excellent where it shines, but the other stuff makes it hard for me to pick it back up sometimes.

Yes, it's 'a BioWare game.' It's not my favorite BioWare game overall, but certain aspects of it are. It does feel like BioWare, just inflated in the wrong area.

Finished Inquisition with all DLC's, and the answer is no. I do not love the game, although I did enjoy The Descent and Trespasser.

I love parts of Inquisition such as the music and the environments, but overall the game was a letdown to me as a Dragon Age fan. Maybe my expectations were to high.

Is it a 'Bioware' game? Well there are moments when the writing shines, and I get that Bioware feel with the story. But I do not like the gameplay  <_<  Combat is shallow and action-oriented, UI and leveling up is simplistic and streamlined -  it doesn't feel like Dragon Age, it feels like I'm playing a generic AAA hack 'n' slash singleplayer MMORPG, set in the Dragon Age universe.

Inquisition is very far from the RPG I love in Dragon Age Origins.

I love this game. For me, and despite it's flaws - mostly a not-very-challenging final fight and the limit on the amount of abilities you can take into battle - it's the best Dragon Age game on the whole.  There's engaging characters, an absorbing story, a combat system that can go from the more immediate real-time fighting to the almost turn-based tactical mode, and a lovely art style.  I look forward to what comes next.

Always? I don't recall the Inquisitor "always" getting what they want. Mine didn't.

And there have been some saying that any game ending happily for the protagonist (or, in the
case of ME3, clearly surviving) is a "power fantasy"

DA2 Hawke was pretty much a failure, no matter how much he/she aspired to do more. Every success was tainted with worse failure: make a fortune in the Deep Roads, unleash red lyrium on Kirkwall (oh, and lose sibling) Investigate serial killer, mother is murdered and used in horrific blood magic ritual. Become part owner of a quarry, quarry gets eaten by dragon. Etc, etc.

Certainly more could be done to give the protagonist the possibility of a better fate without labeling it a "power fantasy"

The difference was Hawke was human and not a plastic messiah doll as a result. And he did beat the arishok that was a victory as it gave him / her recognition in kirkwall. And who says every Hawke" aspires to do more"? Sarcastic cynical Hawke was out for himself / herself.

Love....not at all.  I liked it but I haven't been inclined to play it a second time.

What I liked:  The Cullen romance and most of the main quests.  The areas were nice except the desert.  Crestwood was great.  I did like most of the companions, high points for me were Dorian and Cassandra.  Killing dragons and Trespasser.

What I disliked:  There's supposed to be banter?  Where...when.  I barely heard it.  The fetch quests were horrible and so hard to get through.  The only romance I liked was Cullen.  The others were just okay, with Iron Bull's being the worst.  (I didn't do Dorian since I do female characters).  Timed quests...I hate that.  I like to look around areas...investigate, etc.  I hated the Winter Palace.

Honestly, DAO was so much better (except combat of course).  I even liked DA2 more.

it's a great game overall, i only find the ending sad, and the fact that the inquisitor's story is over is just sadder,

no arm? i have to play the dlc's now and see what happens,

i don't like to have a entirely new protagonist in the new game, for all the hours, days months wth the inquisitor and his/her friends on adventures, and then just forget about it and move on to the next new protagonist and start all over again... i don't know

but a great game anyway i'll complete it again shortly with all dlc

The most serious fly in the ointment for me was the combat. If that had been as involved as DA2's had been, I would have overlooked everything else and held this up as, by and large, a truly great game.

You spend 80% of the game in combat, and if the combat is tedious then it's a killer for me. I simply don't understand the decision to cut the companion combat tactics, but I do know the results were fairly disastrous. Such a shame, too, as there's so, so much to like about the game.

I generally agree.  Combat is the biggest gripe I have about the game.

From earlier claims, I'd hoped they had struck a balance between DAO and DA2.  Yet combat feels even more "pew pew" than DA2, and even less tactical.  And the limited healing only made it more frustrating.  "Tedious is a pretty good word for it.

And yes, I really missed the tactics menu.

Of the 3 DA games it's my least favorite, but it's not a bad game. Heavily flawed, yes, but not bad. The core story was enjoyable, but there should have been much more of it. That, and Corypheus should have had more bite.

It's essentially a great game, in theory, weighed down by loads and loads of uninteresting busy work. Exploring the open environments was fun, I just wish there were more quests of substance within them. Kinda like that game that shall not be mentioned. If they can fix that in the next game then it'll be incredible.

+1 on the lack of tactics complaint too.
