Some time ago there was a discussion about how to breed real Mabari from existing dogs. I teased about how they should simply take that weird genetic defect that gives Whippets crazy hulk muscles & put it in a Mabari looking dog. Nothing like that would happen though, at least not for some time I thought. Well I have clearly underestimated my fellow man. Genetically engineered designer dogs... They went there.

Mabari is basically a bigger version of the Staffordshire Bull Terrier, right?

Haven't we been 'designing'' dogs for millenia with selective breeding anyway?

Oh yeah. It's just kind of weird that we can take something from a fantasy story & bring it out in the real world like that.

There's going to be a lot of medical application to it... I figure by that they'll intentionally give them diseases to learn how to fight them in people. The other side of that coin is that they might be able to rid purebreeds of their worse defects & give pets better healthier lives. That'll be a good thing, reduce trips to the vet & avoid ridiculous vet bills.

In looks and size there's the Presa Canario, imagine if they had the human-like intelligence of a Mabari!

More like a Presa Canario or Cane Corso in looks, actually. Less of a bull breed and more like the mastiff-type guard dogs.
