I know support for this game is gonna end in less than a month, and this thread probably won't change anything, still got something to say, better late than never:

Recently I decided to farm my prestige points to 1000 (been playing the MP since release, but didn't invest long hours into it due to bugs, already reached 1000 prestige yesterday so it's mission complete to me) and dump DAIMP for good, since my timezone(GMT+8) is already a ghost town at this stage, I had to use a North American VPN to bypass the region lock to be able to play any public games, so far I've noticed the following things worth to mention:

1. Most cross-region games actually work fine,  of course the lag is obvious, but attacks and movements feel responsible for the most of the time, there're some annoying things like enemies sometimes can still attack and even kill you after they're dead, but this happened in my normal games without using VPN too, so it might be typical lag issue.

2. The most annoying thing is that if I stay in lobby from the start, there's a high chance (90% of the time) that I won't hear Cullen/Liliana/Josephine/other Inquisition staff speaking in the opening cutscene, and all players appear to be in a non-combat state (weapon on back), after the cutscene, the game loads into an endless black screen, but if I join a game in progress, this bug never happens.

Now I'm not assuming anything but merely state some facts: we all know how much damage that region-lock has caused to DAIMP, and I used to think the devs had to do this to avoid major bugs, but what if the game actually can work without region-lock? From my experience so far, the only game-breaking bug in cross-region games is the black screen bug which seems very likely tied to the opening cutscenes, and BioWare could have done something to avoid this, e.g. what if they simply remove those cutscenes? I'd like the "cinematic feeling" but if I had to trade it for a working game, I will.

Of course I may be wrong, and it's already too late to say anything about fixing the game, but what has Bioware devs learned from DAIMP? Will they repeat those mistakes in ME:A MP and give us another region-lock game?

I'm still wondering, what about you, BSN?

TL;DR:

From my own experience (see above), cross-region games in DAIMP could actually have been working if BioWare did enough tweaks, so I'm wondering: will they do anything to avoid those mistakes, or we're doomed and just gonna have the very same cr*p in ME:A MP?

I hope devs learned thing or two about the engine,so they will be able to make ME:A without region locking.

Things I'd like to stress:

  • Stay in lobby before the game starts, get almost guaranteed (>90%) black screen.
  • Join game in progress, everything works fine.

For me the connection is obvious: cutscene+lag cause black screen, unless a dev convinces me otherwise.

Perhaps they'll kindly removes those nice cutscenes in ME:A MP?

Well iam at gmt+7,
But i play in pc so i would still get enough people, not so much but still i often play on perilious without problem on weekend

Yet you could try to add some people in BSN

I wish they also make it cross platform, maybe in FPS pvp it would be very dissavantage for non- pc player
But in DAIMP it should be no problem

Thanks vicious, it's not a looking for friend/group thread though, in fact I have enough friend to carry me to 990 prestige. I just want to point out a missed chance for Bioware, because most cross-region games actually work fine (tested using a North American VPN), the region-lock should NOT have been there if they had put enough effort in DAIMP.

Cross region has been working fine since 2003........here are two examples of games I played for years from launch.....

I live in the UK and have played with many Japanese and North Americans on their servers.

Any company that cannot get it to work are idiots OR simply don't want to

Also, the above had dedicated servers.

I have also played Phantasy Star Online 2 on the Japanese servers but it was just getting too much of a pain to keep updating the English text and trying to bypass the IP filters they installed.  It ran perfectly though and I keep dreaming of a western release......SEGA SAGA...

Yeah I used to think they made DAIMP region-lock due to overwhelming bugs (the Frostbite engine has a bad reputation for this indeed), but when I tested it using a VPN, most cross region public matches turn out to be actually working fine, so I seriously dunno what BioWare were thinking...

I'm glad I've finally made it to 1000 prestige Capture.pngand put the game on shelf (will still play singleplayer sometimes), but if they continue this region-lock trend in ME:A, I may not touch the mp at all.
