Let BioWare hear our feedback for the romances after one year of playing Dragon Age Inquisition (or moving on to other projects, hehe...). This is a thread that is meant to be friendly for all lovers of romance.

Let's have a poll and see which was the most favorite romance in the game. The first thread has been long lost on the board and I can't find the link any longer, but a year later some of us had the chance to try different romance paths. What changed before you first played the game, what changed after you played your first playthrough and how many playthroughs did you went through afterwards? Tell us about your experiences. Spoilers allowed on this thread. No romance bashing, respect other users. Thanks.

Interesting stats shared by Lynroy

For funnsies I did a quick search for other romance polls for comparison. Seems my perception of the popularity of the Solas romance on this forum was wrong.

This one is two separate polls for race/romance and class/romance from May this year.
http://forum.bioware...aylike-and-why/
Results for science:
These are total votes as of the time I did the math.
Race/Romance

  • Blackwall - 46
  • Cassandra - 87
  • Cullen - 131
  • Dorian - 92
  • Iron Bull - 93
  • Josephine - 68
  • Sera - 97
Class/Romance - much less people voted in this one.
  • Blackwall - 3
  • Cassandra - 37
  • Cullen - 84
  • Dorian - 22
  • Iron Bull - 13
  • Josephine - 21
  • Sera - 18
  • Solas - 62
Another one from May: http://forum.bioware...ourite-romance/
Results:
  • Cassandra - 52
  • Dorian - 29
  • Blackwall - 17
  • Sera - 32
  • Iron Bull - 27
  • Josephine - 16
  • Cullen - 112
  • Solas - 56
This one from January and Solas was in the top spot. http://forum.bioware...sition-romance/
Results:
  • Solas -156
  • Cullen - 130
  • Cassandra - 62
  • Dorian - 53
  • Iron Bull - 48
  • Sera - 31
  • Josephine - 25
  • Blackwall - 21
And here we have poll central from December last year. http://forum.bioware...ge-poll-thread/
Romance polls are more just "who did you romance?" and broken down by gender and race, but I'm combining total votes for everyone for the sake of simplicity.
Results*:
  • Cassandra - 73 (49)
  • Dorian -68 (41)
  • Iron Bull - 82 (33)
  • Josephine - 65 (38)
  • Sera - 67 (29)
  • Blackwall - 36 (15)
  • Cullen - 103 (91)
  • Solas - 177 (162)
*Number in parentheses is the result from the General Romance poll

I haven't played any of the other romances, but I have seen various clips of each. I think Cassandra's is the best because she has more character and much more interaction relevant to the main storyline.

There were several nice ones: Cassandra, Sera, Josephine. For me, Dorian was the biggest positive surprise (both as a character and romance).

Gotta admit even though I didn't play as a Solasmancer but a Dorianmancer, the Solasmance in Trespasser was so tragic and well written.

Well, speaking in terms of lore and story involvement definitely Solas. And I like it when romances are not just side story with zero or almost no connection to the main plot but directly tied to it.

Solas was by far the best romance. Plot-related, which is awesome, sweet, tragic...

Tried Cullen the first time, but, idk, Cullen was easy. I could imagine him being with another woman besides the Inquisitor. Solas on the other hand, I felt that I had accomplished something. The restraint he shows and how he fails to resist his feelings... man, I love that egg-man.

Plus, Trespasser just blowed it away. That soundtrack and final scene screamed "heartbreak" all over the place. My Lavellan will save him from himself. This, I swear.

Solas' relevance to the plot is that he spares you from a fate he inflicted on you, shows you Skyhold, and offers some pointers about elven stuff and the Fade.

Cassandra protects you from the Chantry, raises you up as the Inquisitor, and gives advice on all things plot related.

Solas' relevance to the plot is the Breach and how it happened, and now his own sinister plan to destroy the world. Cassandra is relevant to the whole game. She's connected to the Chantry and the Divine (the person and the position), the Mages and Templars, the Seekers, the current and previous Inquisition, the Champion, red lyrium, dragon slaying, even the Orlesian court (Hero of Orlais). She can also be romanced by a male of any race. Solas can only be romanced by a female elf. He always ends his romance. Cassandra will only end it if required to become Divine. Cassandra is honest with you from start to finish. Solas almost always lies to you and keeps many secrets.

Omg leave my poor egg alone.

I agree Cassandra is awesome, but Solas has his fair share of awesomeness too. He's the best villain Bio has created and he's romanceable. No other romance have the intrigue and suspense Solas have, nor a better ending on Trespasser. And even if it's sad, YOU JUST ROMANCED the DREAD WOLF. How cool is that huh?  :P

Got to agree with Grepher here, and not just because I voted for Cassandra too. But because it seems to me that, Solas is to Women what Morrigan is to Male fans of the series.

I'm an elf person.   I'd been looking forward to romancing Solas from the moment I know we could but what he did to my Lavellan was way too close to my real life experience for me to find it enjoyable.   After the battle with Cory when he just went off and left her alone, I was so depressed, I couldn't even enjoy the celebration party and then it seemed so sad with her starring off into the distance all alone.    Come Trespasser it didn't get better when I discovered the extent to which he had been deceiving me and what he was still planning on doing.    She still clings to her love for him but its dragging her down (I'm merely indifferent).

Dorian saved me and saved the game for me.   I'd found him such a good friend that first play through that I immediately went back and started again with my male Lavellan.   Was not disappointed and at the end of the main game I finally felt the elation everyone else did that we had beaten Cory and survived the encounter.   Loved the celebration party and Dorian telling me he was going to stay after all but disappointed he never got to say he loved me.    Trespasser put that right.  We both declared our love for one another by the end.   He is right; nothing will ever truly come between us, unless a certain bald headed elf has his way.     I've done the Cassandra romance all the way through and Josephine part the way through, but really only out of curiosity.   Dorian has my heart and always will.

I've only done half the romances so far, but Blackwall is still my favourite of the ones I've played. Dorian is great, too, but less perfectly tailored to my personal taste. Josephine's romance was sweet but a bit slight, and IMHO the best parts of the Solasmance happen in the breakup scene and aftewards. It certainly adds another layer of connection to the plot, but it felt a bit unbalanced to me.

I'm just starting on the Sera romance now, and will probably get around to Bull, Cullen and Cassandra next year.
