I love Wrex so much.
Yeah I have him up there with Mordin, Javik and Garrus. Though a bit of faint praise, he's the best companion in ME1 to me by far.
I came in here with the intent to lol @ krogan for acting like whiny babbies about rightfully getting inflicted with the Genophage for acting like shitbirds to everyone else.....
but then that opinion was headbutted and Claymoar'd out of existence.
No, you were right in the first part of your post ![]()
... and then there's
Some great example of Krogan strength... A genetically modified super Krogan that almost gets beaten to death by arm-less zombies ![]()
If he had been fighting actual Rachni Brood Warriors he would have been ripped to shreds before he got halfway through "I AM KROGAN!" ![]()

I have doubts as to your understanding of the lore.

Either way, Krogan don't care.

Oh I am quite informed on the lore. The Krogan are definitely not all their cracked up to be. ![]()
When they survive two galaxy-wide extermination attempts, and at least one Reaper harvest and then still manage to come back swinging then they might have something measuring up to the Rachni.
But sure, let them go about their way head butting and fishing.

True enough. It's not like they defeated the Rachni, and then were neutered by the Council for being the most powerful remaining military force in the galaxy.

The Krogan helped a galaxy-wide effort to stop an invasion. They might have been the tipping point, but they didn't single handedly beat the Rachni back. Besides, even after the onset of Krogan assistance, the Rachni Wars still lasted another 200 years. The Krogan Rebellions could barely last a scant few decades.
And "Neutered" is such a colorfully biased phrase. All the Genophage did was lower their viable birth rate to pre-insudtrial levels; the Krogans could still reproduce, but they are the ones that decided to get all emo and go into decline. The Rachni were reduced to one reproductive member of their species, and they went and pulled themselves up to start again. The Krogan have many, many more viable members to their species, but they chose to wallow in their own misery and self pity for 2,000 years.

I can't quite figure out if you are genuinely this offended by the Krogan, or if you are trying to troll me.
I also can't figure out which of those would be more hilarious.

I think you're just jelly.

Because the krogan are better soldiers and sexier dancers.

YOU ALL KNEW THESE GIFS WERE GOING TO END UP IN HERE EVENTUALLY SO DON'T BLAME ME

But as to your lore knowledge in general, I still have doubts. The Rachni didn't get wiped out by the Reapers because the Reapers were manipulating their biology to their own purpose. And the Krogan did survive a harvest and come back swinging.
Or did you not play Mass Effect 3? ![]()

Nah its all cool. I just like to point out how the Krogan are objectively inferior to the Rachni in about every way; well save for comedy relief. ![]()
To the glorious space bugs!
Or did you not play Mass Effect 3?
Mass Effect 3 never happened and everyone has their own headcanon at that point.

Touché.

I did, though the revisionist history, and slanted narrative on Priority: Tuchunka was rather annoying.
You are right that the Reapers wanted to use the Queen to their purposes, but even after six months of inprisonment and direct exposure to indoctrination, they still couldn't break the Rachni's will. I mean, do you really need your mind intact to be a baby factory? The Krogan couldn't manage that feat; they were perfectly willing to side with Saren for a Genophage cure.
And the Krogan survive a harvest by proxy in ME 3 via the Crucible. They didn't have the challenge of surviving a complete Reaper harvest from the previous cycle.

The Reapers successfully manipulated the Rachni to attack the rest of the galaxy, which was why they didn't wipe them out. Doing so would have been essentially attacking their own forces. What you are suggesting would be somewhat like claiming that Indoctrinated Cerberus, Marauders, and Brutes are proof that the Reapers couldn't defeat the humans, Turians, or Yarg.

Tuchanka was one of the planets that the Reapers specifically avoided engaging because of how dangerous it would have been to take the Krogan head on (even in light of their strained relationship to the council races.) Hence, the long-term plan to harvest more vulnerable targets to defeat the Krogan through attrition. This was later revealed to be the same tactic they used against the Protheans.
And the Rachni didn't "survive a Reaper harvest," they were revealed to be manipulated Reaper forces in ME 1 and again in ME 3. The technique was neither a traditional Reaper harvest nor Reaper indoctrination, but they were acting as unaware agents for the Reapers, nonetheless.
But don't misunderstand me - I don't have a "favourite Mass Effect species" or any particularly strong feelings about the species' relative military power. The Council saw the Krogan as the biggest threat to their agenda, and the Reapers saw them as a bigger threat than the council species. If you believe they were mistaken, then you should probably direct your comments to the writers.
As far me, more tribute to the almighty Krogan through gif form:

Such a glorious exchange. ![]()

I was referring to the Queen's resilience to indoctrination, not huskification; as it's obvious that Rachni can be turned into husks.
The Queen surviving six months of captivity with her mind intact means that the Rachni are highly resistant if not outright immune to all but the most invasive forms of conversion. Otherwise why would they leave her chained up and actively straining against her restraints? Evidence points to the fact that they couldn't indoctrinate her.

Okay, then, so you just contradicted your entire premise, since the Reapers could have eliminated or harvested the Rachni at any time.
After all, the Queen could be killed by Shephard (sort of.) You don't think the Reapers could have done it? At this point, you're inventing desperate arguments. I'm not sure why, since none of this is relevant. ![]()
Just one Soverign class dreadnought would have been enough to lock down the Krogan for all the firepower they could muster.
So now the Krogan can be neutralized by a single ship? When the ship that the Reapers did send was killed by a single non-sentient worm that the Krogan have known how to fight for generations? Mhmm. Okay, then.
Evidence points to the Leviathans being behind the Rachni Wars (IMO).
Despite the Leviathans' empire having predated those wars by millions of years? Okay, then.
Look, it's great that in your opinion the Rachni are the be-all end-all of military might, and you are free to headcanon whatever Leviathan conspiracy that you like.
I don't have any reason to care one way or the other, so instead of making stuff up and pulling it out of my butt, I'll happily let the lore speak for itself:
"The krogan were able to strike at the queens in their lairs and quickly reclaim conquered Council worlds. When krogan fleets pushed the rachni back to their homeworld Suen, the rachni refused to surrender. The krogan response was swift and brutal: they bombarded Suen's cities and detonated powerful bombs in the rachni's underground nests, obliterating them and creating massive sinkholes on the planet's surface. The Citadel Council would normally have objected to such total destruction, but after centuries of relentless war, complete eradication of the rachni seemed the only possible solution."
Sounds to me like the Krogan are pretty badass. And, objectively speaking, it sounds like they basically kicked the Rachni's ass. But again, don't misunderstand me, I don't care which one is "better." I'm just responding to the actual lore presented in the actual games, because I don't get desperate over threads celebrating a species I have an inexplicable mad-on for. ![]()
The Krogan treated the Rachni like they were coal miners. I approve.
I didn't create this thread as a "Blank Master Race" thread. I don't really consider any of the species in Mass Effect to be supreme, except perhaps humans (because - drum roll - when you get to write the series, you get to be the supreme master species.)
Double post.
