How would you rank the races in terms of importance to the Ark mission and our subsequent survival upon reaching Andromeda?  As a human I obviously rank us most important...though feel free to disagree.  I tried to include some reasoning on what each race brings...but struggled with the last few to provide any reason for them at all (apologies to fans of those races).  If possible avoid ranking them in the order you wish to bang. ;)

1. Human: Counsel race; broadest genetic and occupational diversity.
2. Krogan: Highest adaptability to harsh environments; fiercest and fearless fighters
3. Asari: Counsel race; empathic and most capable of unifying
4. Turian: Counsel race; most disciplined; strategic and tactical thinking (militarily)
5. Salarian: Counsel race; most intelligent; science and technology
6. Vorcha: Labor force; easily trained
7. Quarian: Technical expertise; most experienced with prolonged life in space and the confines of spacecraft.
8. Volus:  Economists (likely secured a spot by financing the ark).
9. Geth: Technical expertise; most capable for hazardous occupations (more likely the Geth come as stowaways, i.e. infiltrating various software systems than as invited guests).
10. Drell:  Spiritual advocacy?
11. Batarian:
12. Elcor:
13. Hanar:

Left behind/irrelevant:
o Prothean/Collector
o Keeper
o Leviathan
o Rachni
o Raloi
o Reaper
o Virtual Alien
o Yahg

You've almost got the Krogan in the right place.

Quarian expertise when it comes to long term maintenance and technical resourcefulness is easily the most useful asset.

Humans are no1 simply because we're plain better than everybody else.

1. Human: We R da best!

2. Salarian:  Smart, scientific, diplomats

3. Quarian:  They have been doing for years what we might need to do.  Adapt on the fly, use what meager resources we are given, mobile in space with no home.

4.  Turian:  Disciplined society and military experience.

5. Asari:  Shown to be frauds to some extent, but their biotic gifts are too useful.  Besides we need bartenders and strippers.

6. Volus:  If the goal is to settle then they have experience with economies and trade.

7. Batarian:  No one likes them but they are capable fighters and seem to have a pretty fierce loyalty.

Krogan: Too dangerous, have shown that if givne the chance they will become aggressors.
Vorcha: Vermin
Geth: Recycle bins, too risky, can turn on you at any time.
Drell:  Dying race.
Elcor:  Too big
Hanar: Too weird

I envision a system wherein the Council races are generally in charge(because durr), but leadership is divided between the exploration/sciences division, the military/security apparatus, and the workers'/civilians' elected leadership. A sort of tribunal that requires 2/3 majority to make major decisions and check each other like branches of government. It makes the most sense to me as someone who envisions the Ark as having hundreds of thousands of people aboard, and it's highly appealing to me because it has inherent political drama baked right in.

There will be six main races on the ark: Human, Asari, Turian, Salarian, Krogan (Wrex w/ genophage cure but Bioware fixes Krogan reproduction), and Volus.

Problem with Quarians is that they could all be dead. - your choices matter.

Elcor... too big

All other races could be dead or are inconsequential. - See Kasumi must survive ME2, and Kasumi's mission must be done in ME3 for the Hanar and Drell to survive. Your choices matter.

The other races we'll see will be from Andromeda.

Twelfth!?

Elcor:  Too big

Pfft. We were planning on staying behind and stealing your seat on the council, anyway. Sharing an embassy? Forget that!

I think it'll fall just like the council.

1. Asari

2. Turians

3. Salarians

4. Humans

5. Krogan

6.  Other races

The asari have worked too long and too hard with both the turians and the salarians to let the rug be pulled from beneath them.  I mean, it's been what....   Thousands of years that they've worked together?

Like they would have a choice!

Actually one could say the Asari would be a threat to the stabilization of new societies, since if everybody decided to live with an Asari, all other races would be extinct!

Humans goes without saying.

Volus, Geth and Salarians.

Asari and Krogan can rot in hell.

Humans. Mary-Sue race of the ME-Universe
Asari. Live extremely long which is useful for such a journey. Excellent soldiers, diplomats and scientists
Turians. (+ volus as their client race). Reliable, disciplined, good soldiers
Salarians. Tech savvy, maybe we need another genophage?
Rachni. Capable of operating on planets with a hostile environment, apparently skilled engineers who do quality work
We know the Krogan are invited for some reason

The rest is not really useful or too dangerous (geth)

And if every human decides to buy a sex doll instead of getting married, humans will go extinct in no time!

Me?  I love the asari.  Naturally biotic, more advanced than us, more sophisticated, ummm, Aria.  Ya know, the important things.

Elcor requires much greater gravity than other races. For a escape ship it might be difficult to provide such areas for them.

Turians and quarians need right handed amino acid, unlike the most of other races. Add them to ark require another set of food production system, too costy.

Geth is the most economic choice, they need no room or food, just enough hard drive space. And they can be very useful when exploring new systems.

Cant have too many Asari on board. If more than 20% of the population on Ark are Asari and only a small portion of Asari mate another Asrai, within 5 generations they became the dominate races.

My list:

1,Humans

2,Salarians: technical advanced

3,Krogan: good fighter, can adept to various environments

4,Batarians: reasonable well soldiers, have similar life requirements as humans, no need to invest addtional life supporting equipment.

5,Asari: biotic talents

6,Other races

Trying to justify some kind of hierarchy based on some in-game lore is doomed from the beginning. Most writers don't care about that fluff.

We all know humans are simply better than any other alien and it's up to them to save the day. But for the sake of diversity everyone else will also get nominal vote.

Since all races are on the same ground in Andromeda I'd expect every race to have a seat in some kind of colonial council.

OP is speculating on the ark hierarchy....

Okay, so let's be realistic, all this "they're the best x or y or z, so they're definitely at the top" is a laughable notion. Life doesn't work that way. The hardest workers are the doormat of the top 1%. There's going to be a mix of individuals from every species at every level of whatever hierarchy exists. At least from a wealth standpoint.

From a political standpoint: Council species > everybody else

The krogan are still big, dumb brutes. And the Quarians are still suit rats.

OP is not speculating on ark hierarchy.  It's simply a list of the races I value in order of importance with some minor attempt at justification.  For example, why would I put the Krogans as my number one race?  'Cause if everything went to sh*t and I found myself stuck on a world without all that wonderful future tech I want the meanest, toughest SOB's around watching my back.   Feel free to disagree.

Okay. I would never expect them to be #1. With Krogan, it's never as simple as pointing them in the direction of the bad guys. They're just as likely to kill each other. They're loose cannons. And while their physical tools may come in handy, their temperament makes them an ever present liability.

And even if they were the best at what they do, that doesn't put them at the top of any hierarchy/caste by default.

I guess it depends on whether you're suggesting I'm doing anything other than expressing my own opinion.  I'm not predicting anything.
