Honestly I don't have any hope in this one but my friend thinks BioWare is that kind and lets their fans have it if only enough people wanted it

which I also doubt

I know that there is Bianca and I love her and the relationship of them Varric and her together but maybe he can come to terms with her? Even if he has been writing to her such a long long time..

Ugh I wouldn't start overthinking it if my friend hadn't told me there could be hope

But hey! I am optimistic! For now!

Also I would have matched Hawke and Varric together because.. Well, come on they would have had the best kind of relationship!

What do YOU think?

I mean you are the people who write here constantly and you are the ones who know BioWare the best

You should at least have an opinion of the whole thing

It's not going to happen. I would have loved a Varric romance (in either game, but especially DAI) but the ship has sailed. It's unlikely that he'll ever be a companion again, and his main writer has moved on to BioWare's new IP anyway.

I have some hope that there will be a romanceable dwarf in DA4, but its not going to be Varric. Lace Harding is a much safer bet.

No, there is no hope. He is enamoured with an old flame and his adventuring days are done.

Didn't his writer, Mary Kirby, leave the series along with David Gaider? I think Varric is likely done in DA -- but you never know as far as cameos go. But as a full companion or possible romance option? I really, very, extremely, highly doubt that will ever happen.

Besides, the end of the Trespasser DLC really seems to say that's he's done as well...

Spoiler

Like others said, everything points towards him not ever being a companion again, much less a romance option.

He was in two games from the very beginning (or so close to the beginning that the distinction matters little), had an old flame for the whole time that we knew him, etc.

I think it's safe to say that making him a Viscount was Bioware wrapping up his story. Sorry.

I doubt it. He's busy making sweet love to his other Bianca whenever he's alone.

Well, thank you guys

I never REALLY thought it was going to happen anyway, let alone that he appears again in the next game (as a major role)

That settles it I think I really like the ending of his story though

But what happened to Mary Kirby and David Gaider though?

They've been transferred to the new IP. That doesn't mean that they are done with Dragon Age forever and ever, as personnel transfers can and do happen all the time, but I wouldn't count on their return. The new IP needs veteran writers to get it off the ground, and those two certainly qualify.

I was a Varricmancer once. The answer is nope. The fade tells me that his OTP is Varric x Bianca even though it's a clearly unhealthy relationship.

Becoming his parents. His fears came true.

At this point I am hoping that DA4 will give us either gender dwarves as LIs.

I doubt a Varric romance is on the horizon. If they did it it'd be messy. The pc would have to find some way to drive a wedge between him and Bianca, and that's just mean. Varric's just a big tease...with his open neck tunics and his busted nose.

Seriously though, dwarves need some love. DA4 ought to have more than one drwaf romance to make up for the last 3 games. The total lack of dwarven romance (other than the male noble dwarf warden and his threesome) makes me wonder if BioWare has some sort of aversion to short, stocky people. It's odd for a company that's usually so pc, and it is bad for people that want to role play super dwarfy dwarves. It's likely Lace Harding was thrown in to test the waters...to get hard data on if the fans would be interested in a dwarfmance in the future.

I'm not a huge dwarf fan, but I was actually disappointed that I couldn't romance Oghren way back when....just for kicks and giggles.

Yeah, the lashback when Varric's LI status was confirmed and the FACT everyone flirted with Harding should be enough proof that we want teh dorfies.

Plus, dwarf Warden could allude to a romance with "fine dwarven crafts" Gorim (voiced by Steve Blum!) or the scoundrel Leske (voiced by Brian Bloom as well).

I am confident a lot of us adore Dagna as well.

Sorry, genuine question, why do you consider this relationship to be "unhealthy"? I mean, they have some issues, some of which are unique to them as a couple, but I didn't get the vibe that it was damaging to either of them. Of course, you and I could just have different standards for what an unhealthy relationship is.

No. No Varric. Nope.  But, someday, they may give us a couple of viable Dwarven LI's. We can always beg, cajole, plead, whine, mope and grouse until they do.

The opportunity for a Varric romance died when Bioware decided Bianca was still in the picture.

Well, I don't know what you define as unhealthy, but I think that the fact that he or Bianca are not rejected by each other but can't really be together is really damaging for both of them. I mean, cmon, they've been writing letters for 15 years. Do you know how unsatisfying this must be? Plus Varric has to think about Bianca's husband and the opportunities he can give her (because of his money) that he can't.
Because of that I also thought maybe they could give him at least a happy end with him getting over Bianca, recognizing that she is just his old flame, and having a nice romance with the hero of the story. But I guess that's over with, they had got the chance to do it but nope. Life is hard. You have to take it as it is. (I like this ending as well)

Ugh, if they try to make a character similiar to Varric just for fan service I'm out of here.. Dwarf romance ok, but I don't want a substitute to make up for a lost opportunity. They already made my favourite in the game so I'm excited to see the next game but I'm not really all over the romances

Or maybe they somehow will manage it? I hope there will be characters that don't remind you of anyone in the previous games, often it's just too difficult to fit someone in who is entirely different

I appreciate the thoughtfulness of this response.

Call me old-fashioned but my answer would simply have been "she's married." :)

Your remarks about Bianca's husband are quite interesting, and I'll admit that I hadn't considered that before. I primarily looked at Bianca's husband -- and everyone's families -- as simply obstacles in the way of V/B being together.

It's not going to happen, but it would have been a nice concept, especially for a female dwarf-only Inquisitor or something. Enough people have made female elf Inquisitors for the Solas romance. It would have given a good reason to play as a female dwarf ...although I don't see Varric as being dwarfy enough to only be interested in another dwarf. A romance option would have been a nice opportunity after his personal quest of convincing him to move on from his pathetic/toxic "relationship" with Bianca.

I loved Varric as much as anybody but if his never appearing again means we'll never see Bianca again either I think it's probably worth it tbh.

But yeah, his story is probably finished given his Trespasser ending. Maybe there's still a chance for Harding, though.

I've read some threads considering the fans' opinions of Bianca and sorry that I have to ask, but why are you all so against her?

I know she was one of the last second characters, but yeah I think she is reasonable and a good character regardless.

I like Harding too, she's kind of cute, but in comparison I would say that Bianca has more character depth..

(because some people said that they don't understand her and her motives and don't like her because of that)

I don't think so and I don't think there should be ... Varric should retain  his sort of urban legend status. As an aside - I was kind of disappointed to meet Bianca and she turn out (IMO) to be a tool. Kind of ruined in own head canon lol

I don't really get it either, to be honest. I thought she was just fine. I've gathered that a large part of the dislike comes from the "I'll feed you your own eyeballs" threat, to which the Inquisitor is unable to respond in dialogue. Or at least that seems among the chief complaints whenever I've read any posts about her.
